Prototype figures are always going off to publishers, or heading off to China! It’s so hard to find the time to get photos in! But I’ll do my best in what little time I have! 😛

From ‘Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai’:
Nendoroid Menma!

From the super popular anime series that aired earlier this year, “Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai” comes this lovely Nendoroid of the mascot character of the “Super Heiwa Busters” – the lovely Menma wearing her simple, white one piece!

So many of the GSC staff were crying over this series! 😛
It was so popular with the WEB team that I remember one Thursday someone said, “We need to get this evening’s meeting over quickly! Ano Hana is on tonight!”! ^^

This is how she looks from the back!

Those of you who have seen the anime will know that Menma is almost always bare foot! There are very few Nendoroids with bare feet, so it gives her a lovely original feeling!

At first look her one piece might look a little simple, but if you look close there is very careful gradient paint work done for shadowed areas, and it actually has very fine little frills to it as well!

Let’s move onto the optional parts!
There are lots of parts that help you recreate some great scenes from the anime!

First up is outstretched arms!

This is to recreate the famous key visual from Chichibu Bridge!
This makes me remember Menma running around all playfully on the bridge!!

A flower, hands to hold it and a bent leg!

Okay… so does everyone know which scene this is…?
It’s from the opening song just before the title appears, Menma holds up a flower! It’s such a short scene and yet it leaves such a strong impression!

There is a bent leg for both left and right sides – and the big toe is actually visible on them… plus it’s slightly different on either one! 😛

A smiling face, her diary and hands to hold it!

An expression with an innocent little smile and closed eyes – such an adorable expression!! It will be used to recreate a famous scene a little later on, so remember it!

Plus the diary from episode 10 is also included!
It’s so tiny, and yet you can still even make out Menma’s handwriting inside! Yay!

A determined face and steamed bread!

This kind of shows off Menma’s childish side quite nicely! Such a cute expression that suits her so nicely! She also comes with some of the steamed bread she made in the series, along with hands to carry it! If you combine it with the Nendoroid playset (Japanese), you can kind of recreate Jin-tan’s room as well!

Flowers with stands and hands behind her back!

These allow you to recreate the scene from the ending theme!
The flower parts are connected with a ball joint so you can easily change the angle they are displayed at. The base for the final version is also planned to be a flowery one like you see here!

You can recreate the famous key visuals, the OP and ED as well as some of the wonderful scenes from the series itself! Great job, Shuu-chan!

It seems the area behind my desk is turning into a petting zoo! Whenever someone passes behind my desk, they often change the pose, or add something extra to the frog’s pose! It’s quite fun looking forward to how he will look next time I look behind me. 😛

But more importantly! That’s a prototype figure’s box!!

I know many have been waiting for more Nendoroids from this series – sorry for the wait! It certainly has taken a bit longer than expected, but she is finally here!

The 4th Nendoroid from Strike Witches:
Nendoroid Charlotte E. Yeager!

From the popular anime series ‘Strike Witches’ comes a Nendoroid of Charlotte E. Yeager, known more commonly by her nickname, Glamorous F. Shirley!

Yep, you can definitely see she has the biggest bust on the team when you line them up together! Important things like that are never forgotten!

You can see her lower half is looking lovely in typical Strike Witches fashion as well! They look like a bluish grey color!! The hip parts are of course posable, allowing for some lovely dynamic Strike Witch poses as well!

Let’s move onto the optional parts!
A bright smile and bent left arm!

Some bright smiling parts have been included with all the Strike Witches figures in the past, so of course Shirley will come with one as well! It’s so cute to see her with such a beaming smile! Combined with the bent left arm it really creates a lovely, happy looking pose – ideal for Shirley’s character!

A combat expression, an M1918 and a thumbs up!

Shirley’s weapon of choice is the M1918, which is included with lovely details! She also of course comes with a hand to hold the weapon!

She also comes with her Striker Unit!

Just like before, the propellers even spin around! Having these parts included means you can make all sorts of poses in midair, including battle scenes!

Plus you can’t forget the bunny ears and tail that appear when she uses her magic, along with goggles to allow her to fly at her top speeds!

A separate fringe part is included for the ears, but the goggles are actually attached using magnets – it can connect onto both the normal version and the bunny ear version, so you don’t lose out at all!

The tail has a ball joint for some different poses!

You can move it up, down, left, right – whatever suits the scene you are trying to pose best! It also makes sure that it won’t get in the way of the Striker Unit or other parts!

So today we’ll be taking a look at this figure!

The Second Part of the Cheerful JAPAN! Project!

Nendoroid Puchitto Rock Shooter: Cheerful Ver.!

The 2nd part of the Cheerful JAPAN! Project brings a Nendoroid of Puchitto Rock Shooter herself from the NicoNico Application based on Black Rock Shooter – ‘Puchitto Rock Shooter’! As with most of the Cheerful Nendoroids she is wearing a lovely cheerleader outfit and is ready to cheer on for anyone who needs it!

The damage that has occurred during the March 11 quake in the Touhoku region is astounding, and in order to get over the destruction caused there is a lot that needs to be done, and lots of support that needs to be given. Good Smile Company has formed a support group named ‘Cheerful Japan’ which will strive to support the relief efforts for as long as possible. For at least 1 year we be releasing charity products among other efforts to raise donation money for the cause.

This is how she looks from the back!

She is wearing a lovely bright orange cheerleader outfit which is such a great energetic color to bring a smile to everyone’s face – she also has matching ribbons in her hair, which can be removed if you’d prefer not to have them. She also of course has joints in her twin tails they can be posed in all sorts of directions!

The well-known ‘cheerful’ parts are also all included!

First up are pompons and arms to hold them!

The pompons for Shooter-chan are the same brilliant blue of the flame that you can place over her left eye! The pompons included with her are also a different sculpt to those included with the Vocaloid: Cheerful Ver. figures, so there is some variety in that sense as well!

A support flag and arms to hold it!
The flag has the Cheerful Japan! logo plastered on the front – and Shooter-chan can wave it around to let everyone know she is cheering for Japan!

If you combine the flag with the bent legs it makes for an even more energetic pose! I really think this shot makes her look super cute!

She also comes with an alternate expression!

You can use this expression together with the standard Nendoroid Black Rock Shooter to recreate battle scenes of Puchitto Rock Shooter! 😛

Of course you can also just use it with the cheerleader outfit like above, it’s like she is telling me to work harder! Right – time to get to work!!

Although… Shooter-chan has a scar on her chest which might make some people wonder what happened to Rin…. I’ve carefully placed the pompons in the way, so that’s definitely one way of dealing with that problem. 😛

DM-chan! You look so adorable!!

I was wondering how it would look to put the ribbons on her horns – I think it’s come out quite nicely! But they really are just balanced there at the moment and will fall off very easily – I’m sure some double-sided tape could fix that up though!

Comi-Po! Manga Contest

Comi-Po! is hosting a manga contest in commemoration of the release of Nendoroid Gumako: Cheerful ver!

All you have to do is make a manga that features a photo of your Gumako imported into a manga panel!

You can even make a manga that also features the 3D characters like Comipo-chan as well. There is even a special free version of Comi-po that you can download and use for the contest! The winning entry will receive a prize, so join in the fun!

Using the free version I gave it a go myself! Although I’m not very good with most software… 😛 And before all of you ask why I’m working in the web department… there is a fine line between being good and enjoying something. 😛

Anyway, I was looking for something to use as a base and found this!

This brings back memories!!

This was from when Good Smile was still based in an apartment in Matsudo – it was put up on a certain famous Akiba blog. In a serious column this ended up at the very end – it’s also the very first one!

Back then I had just joined Good Smile and worked with the design team’s boss in a tiny little room. I remember everything being really hectic back then… At the time (about 5 years ago) we also never expected to see the Good Smile Seijin becoming plushies and figures!

So today I’ll make a comic using a GSC Seijin figure!

I have installed Comi-Po!

I think I’ll just use the first and second panels as they are, so I just import a file into Comi-Po using File -> Import Custom Image!

Just drop the imported image onto the canvas!

Ah! It’s so simple! I think even I could get the hang of this! I decided to import the image as is, but the program also allows you to create each panel separately using all sorts of backgrounds, things and characters!

The characters are particularly fun to play with, as you can place them at any angle you like (obviously only the default characters, however.)

Even if you can’t draw yourself, you can still easily make manga!

The GSC Seijin figure!

Now I’m going to use this image and import it into the manga! I just need to cut out the GSC Seijin from the background and save it as a .png.

You can easily change the color and size!

If you simply click the item a guide will pop up, and if you hold the Shift key you can change the size with just a quick mouse movement! Then you just need to right click and the item will appear on the panel, where you can meddle with all sorts of settings such as the hue of the image.

I also tried using the built-in materials!

Effects that are often used in manga are all lined up and easy to throw onto any panel! Just pick the one you want from the list on the left and drag it onto your manga!

And here is the final product!!

Although I’m not sure that my meager attempt really shows off what Comi-Po! can do. ^^; Let me give you a much more skillfully made example!

She’s so cute! The manga really brings out her cuteness!! You can play with her expression parts to make all sorts of interesting manga scenes as well!

Over the long weekend, I went to the Bonbori Festival with Oda-P!

From Hanasaku Iroha:
Nendoroid Ohana Matsumae!

Her character designer is Meru Kishida, well known for his work on the Atelier series of games! Meru’s detailed character design has been shrunk down into adorable Nendoroid size!

She is wearing the uniform she wears for her work at Kissuisou – the Japanese inn that she started to work at. The apron, ribbon, socks and even geta shoes are all very detailed even as a Nendoroid! As a side note… Oda-P seem s to be in charge of loads of characters in kimonos at the moment. ^^;

First up is a determined expression!

A perfect expression for the honest and frank Ohana-chan! Working as hard as she can, even when she is new to the work!

She also has trays with legs for the customers at the inn!

These are of course the trays she used to carry food to those staying at the inn – and she even comes with two, stacked up on each other! You could probably place all sorts of things on the tray for an even more convincing rendition!

Next up is a surprised expression!

Ohana has all sorts of expressions in the series – so it’s nice to have some variety on the Nendoroid as well! Both the shoulder area and the area where her bare arms start are posable, allowing for all kinds of poses!

A wooden broom and arms to hold it!

Once she has finished carrying the food t all the customers, she needs to head to the entrance and clean up a bit… it seems she has come across a rather peculiar looking animal though. (Kyubey isn’t included! ^^;)

The extra parts that come with Ohana-chan are really nice big things like the trays and broom, it’s fun to play around with them!

Ohana meets with this giant bird on the way to Kissuisou’s rival inn, Fukuya. She really isn’t good with dealing with this particular bird!! The gradient used on the wings is really beautiful… plus it is really posed in a menacing pose which is perfect for the series! 😛

And finally…!!

We’ve already seen so many amazing parts… but this next one is quite different to normal. Of all the Nendoroids that have been made… I never expected parts like these! xD

Which can also be removed, of course. I was quite amazed to see the permission to make these parts come out! ^^;

Looking from this angle, experts might point out that the tying isn’t done correctly – but even in the series the line “I just can’t get it right” came up. You have to be impressed that he at least tried it, right? 😛 I can’t wait to use these parts with some other figures… ^^;

Cheerful Japan! Part 6 : Nendoroid KAITO: Cheerful Ver.!

Tomorrow is the start of another long weekend!

In preparation for the long weekend, everyone at GSC is hard at work to finish everything up! Amongst all the work, I spotted this interesting looking box on the design team boss’ desk!

That Momoclo photo on display is definitely rather interesting… but I think I’ll steal the box first, I can’t wait to see what is inside!

Cheerful JAPAN! Part 6:

As I’m sure a lot of you may have figured it out already, but this is effectively a KAITO resale – he is coming back as a Cheerful! version!

This is the original Nendoroid KAITO!

The Cheerful version includes all the expressions and optional parts that the original had!
The original KAITO was Nendoroid No. 58, he was first released in 2009/02! I can’t believe it was a year and a half ago that it first came out!

KAITO’s trademark scarf looks so cute in Nendoroid form! You can also turn the scarf to the front if you prefer!

How much of my heart can you possibly steal, KAITO!!!? You’re just too adorable! I’m sure everyone who already has KAITO has loved using this expression with loads of other Nendoroids as well!

Plus, KAITO has to come with an ice cream!

It’s not an official thing, but KAITO has definitely become well known for his love of ice cream! He also of course comes with arm parts that let him hold it!

Plus the impressive, ‘Hero Expression’!!

A very different expression to the smiling face above, but this is also an expression that just can’t be left out! Parts to recreate the Hero pose are also included!

Now lets move onto the Cheerful Ver. parts!
First is a brand new cheering uniform!

As you can see, the body has had a complete makeover for the Cheerful version!
The idea behind this was from Oono, and handled by Sacchan – the newbies at GSC are really doing wonderful things!!

All the female Cheerful versions have had cheerleader outfits, so this is definitely what KAITO needed to blend in with them!

KAITO’s image color is of course the lovely blue, so a blue cord is tied onto his back! The orange armband is also a lovely touch!

Let’s move onto the optional parts!

Pompons are included as with all Cheerful versions!
His pompons are a lovely bright blue – very suiting for KAITO!

They connect the same way as Cheerful Miku, Rin and Len – with a stub that connects to the arm! I know some people think pompons are girly, so that’s why I decided to give them to Miku instead. 😛

He also comes with folding fans!

You can have him hold both of them and he really looks ready to cheer on for everyone! I’d be glad to do my very best if I had KAITO cheering for me!

The hands for holding the fans are wearing white gloves!
There are standard hands as well, so there are all sorts of ways to pose him!

On the reverse side of the fans is the Japanese flag!

It’s been seven months since the disaster, but Japan is still far from what it was before the disaster… there are lots of people who are still having a very hard time. The Cheerful project has been going for a good six months now, and hopefully it has brought some smiles to the people who need it most.

The headband needs to be tied yourself (double-sided tape works too), and it really adds even more to the cheering atmosphere!

The staff that went to Paris returned yesterday!

They were attending an event called the Paris Manga & Sci-Fi Show 12, but have now returned to Japan once more! Welcome home everyone, I’m glad you’re all back safe!

All the prototype figures that were on display there have also safely made it home, so let’s get started with playing with some of them… including this one over here!

Kamui Kobayashi is a famous F1 race driver with an impressive track record… and now he is joining the Nendoroid world as well!

I know some of you might be a little surprised with this Nendoroid!

I’m sure a lot of you know about GSR&Studie with TeamUKYO, and their Miku car, but Good Smile actually has a whole division called Good Smile Racing that is working hard in the cars and racing side of things!

I also wanted to put a picture in here of Kamui just heading off to a race… but somehow the picture I took made it look like he was playing rock-paper-scissors instead, so I decided against it in the end. ^^;

He is getting his very own figma rendition as well!!

But it should look just like him, as the sculptor in charge of this figma was none other than Hiroshi Sagae, who specializes in sculpting figures of real people! The body was all sculpted by Sagae, and then Masaki Asai worked on putting the figma joints in!

When he is wearing the helmet and you look inside the visor you can see his cheeks are all squished up, it’s great!!! 😛 The visor lifts up just like a real helmet!

The HANS device (the black thing around his shoulders) is also included!
As with the Nendoroid, his outfit also has all the sponsor’s logos on, so it really is a faithful double to the original Kamui! It’s a bit strange to see a realistic figma like this at first, but it’s definitely still an incredible piece of work!

From the popular light novel series ‘Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai’ comes a figure of the all perfect (besides her personality) Sena Kashiwazaki! The Nendoroid captures her stubborn and arrogant personality very nicely!

When I opened the box I was really surprised!

One of her trademark items is the butterfly hair accessory, which looks super cute in Nendoroid form! The petticoat that you can just see beneath her skirt is also a very high point for me!

First up is folded arms!

These create a pose that really suits her personality, just like with Yozora. Combined with that annoyed expression it’s just perfect!

Buriki’s illustrations are beautiful no matter how many times you look at them! These parts are included specially to recreate this pose!

Bent left and right arms, bent legs and a different skirt!

Everything except her head and body is replaced! Obviously you could just use certain of these parts along with the others to create all sorts of original poses as well!!

She has parts that let you recreate the scene from the first volume of the novel! Now you just have to display the two of them together!! 😛

Anyway, let’s get back to Sena’s review…
Her first extra expression – a crying face!

Those who know the series will know that Yozora is always beating Sena, so that’s where this expression comes in! Isn’t she just adorable like this!?

She also has arms put out in front of her!

That pose really shows how very annoyed she is! Plus I must say that her nickname of ‘meat’ comes in here very nicely – these arm parts really bring out her breasts! 😛 The expression is based on an illustration found in the chapter “A also want friends!” in the first volume of the novel.

But there are even more extras to come!
She also comes with a starry-eyed face!

And what is it that makes her look so exited? Games of course! Even as a beautiful girl, she still loves playing dating sims and eroge! These parts really recreate the atmosphere of the Neighbor’s club!

An LCD TV, TV stand, PS2, controller, sitting parts and a sofa!

Isn’t it incredible!? I told you she came with loads of extras! The sofa is included with Nendoroid Yozora as well, but Sena comes with her own one as well!

She also has hands to hold the controller, and a hand placed on her cheek!
In the photo above she is only holding the controller with one hand – but she does comes with hands to hold it in both!

Nendoroid Gumako: Cheerful Ver.!

Gumako is the Good Smile Mascot that was born from an April Fools joke in 2008 – and now she is joining the Nendoroid world! A little petite-sized Good Smile Seijin is also included with Gumako!
For those of you who don’t know about Gumako…

Gumako’s Secrets

– She was once a show girl for ‘GSC Udon’ at a udon shop in Matsudo.
– She had a side job working as an announcer for GSC.
– The things on her head are ‘udon’.
– She gives depressed people some of the udon to cheer them up.

– More Info –
Gumako once ran out of energy and collapsed only to be saved by the owner of an udon shop. She then realized the power that udon has at cheering people up and giving them energy, and named that ‘Udon Power’.

That about summarizes her! Those things coming out of her helmet are in fact ‘udon’!

This is how the packaging looks!

The Good Smile Seijin actually is actually a nice size and very noticeable!
By the way, Gumako marks the 200th Nendoroid! Yay!

Gumako makes use of the arm-type Nendoroid stand, while the Good Smile Seijin stands on a standard Nendoroid Petite stand, which means they can both be posed floating in the air!

Lets take a look at the optional parts!
A bent left arm and bent leg!

The arm can be removed at the area of skin on her arm, so you don’t need to touch her shoulder parts to attach it. I must say that the orange and white outfit is really adorable! The colors look so great together!

She also has a content expression!

She looks so very happy – it makes me fell happy as well – and the reason she is so happy is of course because she also comes with…

Udon, chopsticks and hands to hold them!

Gumako knows of the power that udon has to make people happy! When you’re feeling down, you just need to look at this figure and you’re bound to cheer up!

Nendoroid Petite Good Smile Seijin!

His tentacle things are posable!
They are fitted with ball joints, so there is a limit to how they can be moved around, but you can still make all sorts of poses!

She can use other Nendoroid expressions!

Trying the helmet on other Nendos was unsuccessful…

It’s very rare for the helmet to fit neatly on a differently sized head part, plus the helmet has tabs inside to place on Gumako. But you can always do it the other way around and just use Gumako’s body with a different Nendoroid’s head! 😛 Gumako cosplay!

Two stickers are also included!

The stickers are the same size as the square stand, so you can stick one of them onto the stand if you like – or anywhere else you want! You will need to poke a hole in the sticker for the point the arm fits in.

The drapes and frills on the skirt… they look so beautifully sculpted!! You can’t help but take a good long look and appreciate them!
