POP UP PARADE Guts (Berserker Armor) L (Berserk)

Hello everyone! My name is Isomaru Suihei and I work for Max Factory.

First off, let me just say we’re so excited and grateful to see Berserk return to serialization!

So, today, I want to give you a closer look at one of our latest figures that many of you reading are probably already familiar with!

POP UP PARADE Guts (Berserker Armor) L

Bloodlust blacks out all else.

That’s right, today I’ll be taking a closer look at POP UP PARADE Guts (Berserker Armor) L, available for preorder now!

This is Max Factory’s first POP UP PARADE L figure, and by all accounts, from the size to the level of detail we’ve been able to get in the sculpt to the price, it is a really stunning rendition of Guts.

This figure is based on the cover illustration of the 28th volume of the manga, and features Guts sculpted in incredible detail.

▲The original illustration’s ominous atmosphere and sense of unbridled ferocity have been perfectly captured.

Please take a close look at the highly detailed sculptwork and textural painting featured across the figure when you take him home!

Even during the prototype phase, the high level of detail was already apparent.

The Berserker Amor’s unique texture is actually sculpted on the figure line by line just like how it is illustrated in the original manga.

Each detail was preserved with great care. Once the figure was painted…

…it became even more impressive!

The deep black colors of the armor work great to give it this realistic heavy and metallic look.

Taking a look at the back of the figure you can see the cape.

In contrast to the armor, the cape has a cloth-like appearance to it, with detailed shadowing to create a rippling effect.

We were really able to capture that fur-like look through the paintwork.

Setting this figure apart from other POP UP PARADE figures, it features a stony mountain-like vignette base.

These were carefully painted to really bring out a rock-like texture in the painted prototype.

Let’s also take a look at Dragon Slayer.

▲The iron-like texturing and weathering of Dragon Slayer work to give it a realistic sense of weight.

The more you look at it, the cooler it looks! Be sure to take a close look for yourself!

One more great feature about this figure I want to point out is that it comes included with two head parts.

The normal head part (left) features eyes painted with red paint.

An additional head part (right) that utilizes translucent parts for the eyes is included too.

This setup allows you to install a Milight LED in the head part to display them glowing.

▲These glowing red eyes really power up that atmosphere of berserker rage!

*Please note that the Milight 316R (released by: Hiromi Sangyo) is not included in the product.

Nendoroid Amaterasu (Okami)

Hello! I’m IG Sakai from the Max Factory Planning Department!

Today I’ll be taking a look at Nendoroid Amaterasu, which went up for preorder today! Have to checked out the product page yet?

Out of all of the Nendoroids released so far (and excluding some exceptions like Mickey Mouse or Isabelle), Amaterasu might be the first animal Nendoroid….!?

Nendoroid Amaterasu comes in both standard and DX versions!

▲The DX version includes a Rosary, Glaive and Oddly Shaped Turnip!

For today’s blog, I was able to ask the sculptor of the figure, Masu, a few questions about the process!

Masu

An experienced Sculptor at Max Factory that formerly worked as a planning supervisor. Has sculpted various products including “figma Splatoon Girl”, “figma Samus Aran: PRIME 3 ver.” and figma Kaban. Primarily uses Zbrush for sculpting.

What were the difficult parts about sculpting an animal Nendoroid?

Masu: Most of all I’d say the most difficult thing was getting the general balance right!

For example, when you look at Amaterasu’s model in-game and illustrations, Amaterasu’s neck and shoulders are fairly sturdy and tough, while her head is quite small. When I was sculpting her to match standard human-like Nendoroid proportions, I seemed to run into a lot of issues and had to start over a lot. Getting the side-silhouette was also much more important this time compared to standard Nendoroids, so being able to figure out how to incorporate both the character’s familiar looks and the Nendoroid style was a substantial challenge.

▲On the left is the original Nendoroid illustration. The middle panel shows the initial prototype and the right panel is the final product. You can see all kinds of small changes, such as the eye shape change, from the prototype to the final product.

Getting the balance right was certainly an arduous process of trial and error.

I think one of the most challenging parts I remember was getting the snout correct.

Dogs, wolves, bears, cats and foxes all have similar snouts but are just slightly different, so it was all too easy to make her look like a completely animal altogether when adjusting the snout of the Nendoroid.

In the end, we settled on using a puppy’s snout as a reference for the Nendoroid.

–What was the most fun part of the project?

Masu: It was really exciting right around the time the first prototype was coming together.

Even only part of the way through the process when we were refining the shape and figuring out how to handle articulation, it was very fun to play with the Nendoroid.

Being able to cooperate with Hiroshi Yuasa (Max Factory), who sculpted the initial prototype we first showed at WonFes, and Taizou was also a fun part of the project.

We also received a ton of ideas from character designer Kenichiro Yoshimura throughout the process, so I think we were able to create something that fans of the game will really enjoy.

Yes! This time we were able to tag-team with Kenichiro Yoshimura, character designer for Okami, in order to create the Nendoroid.

From the original illustration, to the prototype, to the painted prototype phase, he was there every step of the way supervising the process and giving us ideas.

–Are there any parts of the figure you want to highlight for us from a sculpting standpoint?

Masu: The versatility of the interchangeable leg parts is very important. We sculpted the legs with the primary goal of being able to recreate dynamic poses from the game, and a secondary goal of being able to create cuter dog-like poses as well.

For example, I personally love how some dogs will scratch their ears with their back legs. Of course, in order to perfectly create poses like that, we would have needed to make leg parts for that specific purpose, so we tried to maximize the versatility of each leg part in regards to posing in order to keep from having to make too many parts.

figma Sekiro (Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice)

After over 10 years of the figma series, today marks the date preorders open for…

Hello! I’m IG Sakai from the Max Factory Planning Department!

I’ve completed all of the trophies for Sekiro and am now on my 7th playthrough of the game.

And now, I’m so excited to show you figma Sekiro!

In addition to the photos you can see on the product page and special site, I took plenty of pictures for the purpose of this blog as well!

By the way, this figma has been made with the supervision of the designers of Sekiro, the shinobi prosthetic tools and sculptor’s idol from From Software!

Thanks to their help, we were able to recreate figma Sekiro as though he was taken straight out of the game!

Out of all of the figmas up until this point, I would have to say this one is certainly one of the most detailed!

First, let’s take a look at his face!

▲You can see just how detailed we were able to recreate his face with the use of triple 3d painting!

Take a look at the hairs on his forehead too!

With the use of 3d painting, we’re able to achieve an even more detailed appearance compared to traditional pad printing and mask paintwork.

Using this special paintwork, we can even recreate details like his Mark of the Dragon’s Heritage in extraordinary detail!

Besides his face, things like his clothes have been carefully 3D sculpted and painted to give the impression of texture.

Even different cloth portions have different textures! Three texture patterns were used in total.

Not only is the sculptwork finely detailed, but various points of articulation have been incorporated for maximum posability.

Let’s recreate the various stances from the game to start out!

His shoulders feature a wide range of articulation as well, allowing you to display him holding his sword in both hands like this!

▲This really helped a lot of you during boss fights, didn’t it? The pattern and metallic look has been recreated using pad printing!

Don’t forget to attach this part when displaying Sekiro with his shinobi prosthetic tools!

▲Even the tiny parts were preserved in the figma to accurately recreate his appearance from the game!

Death Effect

▲It’s incredible how much suffering a single kanji character can bring.

It’s not red though, so you still have a chance to fight again!

By using this effect sheet, you too can easily…die.

If you’re wondering how we recreated the foggy look of the photo on the product page, we just used dry ice, actually!

Racing Miku 2018 Summer Ver.

Sculptor: Nakayaman (Max Factory)

Presenting a 1/7th scale figure of the official character of the 2018 Hatsune Miku GT Project: Racing Miku 2018 Summer Ver.! Popular illustrator Hiro Kanzaki’s original illustration has been brought to life in meticulous detail.

Translucent parts are utilized for recreating her hair in order to give it a delicate, slightly see-through appearance. Don’t miss the masterful sculpting of her toned legs, stomach and shoulders shown off in her Summer Ver. outfit. Be sure to add her to your collection!

Featuring the official character of the 2018 Hatsune Miku GT Project.

The songstress of the circuit has been recreated in her summer outfit!

Her pleated skirt, arm covers and clasped top have all been carefully recreated!

Even the various decorations at her waist and neck have been faithfully captured! ₍₍ (ง ˙ω˙)ว ⁾⁾

The dynamic sculpting of her windblown twintails looks incredible! ♪

（Looking at the way her twintails flow from the side… it really makes you feel like you’re on the racetrack, doesn’t it??）

Her bangs have also been carefully sculpted to have the same windswept appearance. ♡

▲The bright gradation of the hair around her face makes for a gorgeous, lightweight look! ♪

Miku’s golden staff has been recreated in incredible detail too! ★

Her long boots have been sculpted as though her legs are really beneath the boots!

Details like the wrinkles at her ankles have been faithfully added in. ◎

▲Her calves and ankles are beautifully sculpted!

Her right hand near her face has been sculpted with the subtle movement of her fingers in mind, giving it an incredibly realistic look. ( ・∀・)

▲From this angle, her expression looks even more confident than before!

Personally, one of my favorite parts of the figure is the sculpting of her stomach!

The sculpting of her thighs is another point that cannot be missed!!

Saber/Frankenstein (Fate/Grand Order)

Saber/Frankenstein

From the popular smartphone game “Fate/Grand Order” comes a scale figure of the Saber servant, Frankenstein, from the “Dead Heat Summer Race” event, carefully sculpted based on her first ascension appearance in her adorable swimsuit.

Her hair, swimsuit and jacket have been painted in colorful pastels, while her weapon features paint that gives it a convincing metallic look. Her soft, supple appearance has been brought to life in this charming figure. Her cuteness can be enjoyed from any angle, so be sure to add her to your collection and see for yourself!

From the “Dead Heat Summer Race” event comes a scale figure of the Saber servant Frankenstein!

She’s wearing her lovely light blue bikini with a soft pastel yellow jacket!

(With some of her body hidden, it makes your heart beat a little faster for her, doesn’t it!?)

The sensuality of her delicate-yet-supple physique has been recreated in figure form with the utmost care. (っ’ω’)っ))

(I personally love the sculpting of her midsection, and how it flows with her arched back.)

On the other hand, her large weapon has a sharp, metallic appearance. ◎

Let’s take a look at one of this figure’s main features, her face! ♪

This vulnerable, though somewhat mature expression… ε-(o´ω｀o)

She looks somewhat absentminded… though at the same time like she wants to tell you something…! Fran’s mysterious charm is on full display in this figure.

One more thing about her face…!

We’re already at the end of March! We have new graduates joining the GSC ranks from next week!!

But anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at…
Avenger/Jeanne d’Arc (Alter): Dress Ver.!

From the popular smartphone game “Fate/Grand Order” comes a scale figure of the Avenger class servant, Jeanne d’Arc (Alter)! The figure is based on the illustration of her in a dress seen during the Subspecies Singularity I: Isolated Demonic Realm: Shinjuku storyline during FGO Project 1.5: Epic of Remnant. The impressive volume of her long flowing hair and the details and texture of her corsage have all been captured as faithfully as possible!

The dress itself makes use of pearl and metallic paints to recreate a light, silken appearance. Even the details of her bare skin visible through the gaps in her hair have been carefully detailed, giving her a much softer demeanor compared to her normal armored appearance. Be sure to add her to your collection and dance by her side as her Master!

The incredible volume of her hair has been captured as faithfully as possible, and her dress features a lovely blend of pearl and metallic paintwork! ε-(o´ω｀o)

Nendoroid Nadeshiko Kagamihara (Laid-Back Camp)

Today I’m going to be taking a look at this item from Max Factory…
Nendoroid Nadeshiko Kagamihara!

From the popular anime series “Laid-Back Camp” comes a Nendoroid of Nadeshiko Kagamihara! She comes with three face plates including a cheerful standard expression, a smiling expression as well as a broad smile with closed eyes. She comes with a detachable scarf part as well as an alternate head part with her hat removed.

Optional parts include the curry noodles she received from Rin Shima in episode one, a gyoza hot pot, gas stove, bowl, chopsticks, soup spoon and ladle! In addition, the Nendoroid also comes with a social media text plate to recreate the iconic timelines from the series, as well as a paper camp chair to display beside her! Enjoy a laid-back camp right by your side in Nendoroid size!

Wonder Festival is the world’s biggest figure festival which takes place twice a year – once in Winter and once in Summer. The first Wonder Festival of 2018 is set to be held at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan on the 18th February 2018.

Nendoroid Snow Miku: Crane Priestess Ver.

2018 marks the 9th anniversary of Snow Miku, and the 2018 design was once again selected by fans through online votes between a selection of outfits all submitted to piapro by fans! This year the theme was “Animals of Winter Hokkaido”, and the winning Snow Miku design was this version based on a red-crowned crane illustrated by Taichadon! The illustration has now been converted into this adorable Nendoroid!

The hood can be attached and removed for a different look, and she comes with three different face plates including a standard expression, a wistful smiling face as well as a prayer face with closed eyes and a touch of lipstick. Optional parts include a kagura bell and folding fan to pose her performing traditional dances! A cypress stand to place the tools on as well as kneeling parts are also included to display her in prayer, and a crane made from ice is also included for her to hold in her hands.

In addition, a large base featuring a paved road and torii archway is also included to bring out the temple atmosphere, and she comes with a broom to display her cleaning the temple grounds! The snow on the base can even be removed for even more display opportunities! Enjoy the relaxed Snow Miku priestess in all sorts of adorable Nendoroid poses!

This time around she is wearing the school uniform that featured in the flashback scene from episode two of the anime series!

The illustrations of Wonda-chan used on the official WonFes guidebook are always done by a different illustrator for each event, and for the past few events a ‘NEXT DOOR’ Wonda-chan illustration – a second illustration that is done by an up-and-coming illustrator – has been done together with the main Wonda-chan! This secondary Wonda-chan is then made into a figure, creating the perfect souvenir for each Wonder Festival event! Good Smile Company takes part as the manufacturer for the figure!

Eriri Spencer Sawamura (Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend)

Today’s Main Feature!!

Today I’m going to take a look at this 1/7th scale figure that went up for preorder earlier today…
Eriri Spencer Sawamura!★

From “Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend” comes a 1/7th scale figure of the popular doujinshi artist, Eriri Spencer Sawamura! The figure is based on the jacket illustration of the first season Blu-ray box, and has been sculpted and painted with a unique touch in order to capture the look and feel of Kurehito Misaki’s illustration in figure form.

The highly dynamic pose of the figure make it look ready to jump to life, and her doujinshi and other items that represent her character are placed all around her creating an exciting composition with all sorts of things to see! The doujinshi sketches that were mostly covered up on the original illustration are faithfully included and are even readable on the figure! Be sure to take a close look once she joins your collection!

From “Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend” comes a scale figure of the up-and-coming doujinshi artist known by the pen name”Eri Kashiwagi” – Eriri Spencer Sawamura! ★

The way her twin-tails are fluttering around together with the unique posing makes for such a lovely dynamic pose that really catches the eye! Just look at the way her skirt is moving too!! (´□｀｡)

The slightly see-through look of her socks as they stretch along her legs also looks fantastic! (｀・д´・；)

The difference in texture between the socks and shoes that comes out in the paintwork is also lovely! ♪

The detailed sculpt and paintwork is one thing, but the composition of the pose and the way it has been transformed into a figure makes it look fantastic no matter what angle you choose to look from!ヽ(ﾟ∀ﾟヽ三ﾉﾟ∀ﾟ)ﾉ

The eyes have been kept very faithful to Kurehito Misaki’s original illustration! Plus just look at that cute moe fang!! ♥

Finally, a certain point of the figure that really caught my attention…

The way the elastics in her socks are pressing down on her skin!! The line that separates the socks from her thighs has been sculpted so perfectly!! The artisans at Max Factory really are amazing at their work!
