Final Post of 2018! A Look Back on the Year with Aki-san!

As with most years, I’ll be talking with Good Smile Company CEO Aki-san to close out the year!

Around the start of this year, the company GOODSMILE FILM was established!

While we didn’t call much attention to it, we did add an anime publishing company to the collective Good Smile Company. Responsible for planning and creating anime.

This season, GOODSMILE FILM had a hand in the making of three shows: GOBLIN SLAYER, IRODUKU: The World in Colors and Merc StoriA: The Apathetic Boy and the Girl in the Bottle!

Our associated joint holding company ULTRA SUPER PICTURES works with affiliated anime production studios (TRIGGER / Sanzigen / Liden Films, etc.), while GOODSMILE FILM works with outside studios to make anime. It’s great that we’re working with more and more companies. It gives Good Smile Company more options to work with great people in the industry.

 Then, in Spring, Good Smile Arts Shanghai was established!

It’s the Shanghai branch of Good Smile Company. The company was born out of a necessity to meet the demands of the Chinese market, while wanting to create a team present in the actual locale.

Recently you may have seen the Good Smile Arts Shanghai logo on some product pages for products from Chinese contents!◎

Yes, I would be thrilled if you took a look at that section and thought, “Ah, this is Good Smile Arts Shanghai!” It is with that revitalized feeling that I want our customers to view our products.   The aim of Good Smile Company is to bring Japanese works to the world, while the aim of Good Smile Arts Shanghai is to bring Chinese works to the world and the aim of Good Smile US is to bring American works to the world. Of course, one of our goals is expanding our market, but we also want to bring content and creators from each area out into the greater world through figures and merchandising. From those three positions, we hope to be a driving force in spreading content throughout the world through merchandising.

On top of all of this, last month Good Smile Partners was also founded!

Fundamentally, Good Smile Partners is an investment company, but to simply say we’ll invest and then profit isn’t quite right… The mentality we want to take with Good Smile Partners is that of co-creation. Of course, Good Smile Company is involved in the planning, manufacturing and sale of figures, but we work on a variety of other projects as well. We wanted to take that collaboration and investment aspect of the company and create Good Smile Partners.

So you’re saying that rather than venturing out into a new business, the goal was to take an existing aspect of Good Smile Company and split it into an easier-to-understand, separate company?

Yes, Good Smile Company generally speaking creates products, while Good Smile Partners will be creating new teams and new companies. Through this we want to slightly expand what Good Smile Company is capable of doing. We have talented people working at this, so if you have any ideas, please take a look at our Good Smile Partners application form!

While our 2018 has been filled with new business, it’s been filled with new products as well! ♪

Capsule Toy Series

 We started pushing the Pioykuru line and other capsule toys this year! We challenged ourselves in making a bit more of an accessible product line-up. Originally born from ideas within the company, we’ve been able to achieve an incredibly diverse line-up. Through capsule toys, we’ve been able to work with series’ that are difficult to turn into figures, such as “Tanuki and Kitsune” and “Puyo Puyo”. Thanks to the hard work of the people in charge of this product line-up, we’ve been able to create an environment where we can take on these challenges. We’re still working on developing the line-up, so it’s easy for us to take action when we hear things like “I want this kind of product!” from fans!

While increasing the variety of Good Smile products, new ways to play with our products have been developed as well! Such as Nendoroid Doll, a series that had its first release this year!

⇒What is Nendoroid Doll?

Thanks to everyone’s continued support of the Nendoroid product line, we’ve been able to branch out in creating the Nendoroid Doll series. With your own customizations and arrangements, you can create a Nendoroid special to you and also create new ways to play with your Nendoroids. The more we can create those fun opportunities for our fans, the happier I’ll be.

There’s also Nendoroid dolls of established characters and outfit sets available. (`・ω・´)

Speaking of dolls, this year marked the first release of a product of the Harmonia bloom brand!

The capsule toys, Nendoroid Doll and Harmonia bloom are all product lines that have been managed and implemented by relatively younger members of the planning team! The person in charge of the “Harry Potter” series products is quite young as well. I think it’s great, young people have a lot of potential and create interesting products.

Is there anything else you were interested in this year?
(By the way, last year’s answer was “Kizuna AI”!)

I think SSSS.GRIDMAN has been very interesting! It’s been exciting to look forward to every week, and every episode seems to give you a lot to think about. It’s fun to watch it alone, and I think it’s also quite fun to then discuss it with others. I sincerely look forward to it every week. I’ve really been wondering how the series will end in the last episode, so I’ve made sure to not get any information about it from the people involved with the series or from anyone over at TRIGGER! I can’t wait for the last episode.

Ah, really? I can’t wait! There’s been a lot of excitement for it in general at the company, so much that we’ve even planned “SSSS.GRIDMAN” toys. I hate to pick just one series out of all of the great works that have come out this year, but for me it’s been one of the most captivating works I’ve seen this year.

Finally, what are you hoping for in 2019?!

2019 will finally see the release of Nendoroid #1000. Although right now, Nendoroid #1000 is still a secret. In some way, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has supported us all the way to Nendoroid #1000. I hope our fans attentively watch the new ventures, new companies and new products we have coming in 2019 as well. Next year also marks a memorial year for contents that we’ve been involved with for a long time, so I hope to be able to make it an exciting year while expressing my gratitude to them.

How was your year, everyone?

I think one of my most memorable parts of this year was being able to work with the Takarazuka Revue! ◎

Today is Christmas in Japan! Oddly enough, after the whole Christmas season it feels like the Christmas feeling starts to fade around this time…!

Today I’ll be taking a look at…

Nendoroid Riko

Nendoroid Reg

From the anime series with a movie releasing on the 4th of January, “Made in Abyss”, comes Nendoroids of Riko and Reg!

They’ve been brought down to Nendoroid size while maintaining their characteristic appearances from the show!

These are the second and third Made in Abyss Nendoroids following Nendoroid Nanachi! (๑•̀ㅁ•́๑)

Nendoroid Riko

From the popular anime series “Made in Abyss” comes a Nendoroid of Riko! She comes with three face plates including her standard expression, her starry-eyed expression and her gentle smiling expression! Her red whistle and helmet can be removed!

Have fun recreating various scenes from the show! Display with Nendoroid Nanachi (sold separately) and currently available for preorder Nendoroid Reg (sold separately) for even more fun!

“There must be an answer in the Abyss!”

The delver with dreams of becoming a White Whistle, Riko, has been transformed into an adorable Nendoroid! ♪

Everything from her red whistle to her delving outfit has been carefully recreated! ◎

His helmet and mantle can be removed, so enjoy posing him in various situations from the show!

The robot found in the abyss that looks exactly like a human, Reg, has been transformed into a Nendoroid! ★

Nendoroid Akane Shinjo

From the anime series “SSSS.GRIDMAN” comes a Nendoroid of the kaiju-loving Akane Shinjo! She comes with three face plates including her innocent standard expression, a mischievous smiling expression and her weary expression!

For optional parts she comes with everyday items like her juice box and smartphone, along with her utility knife, headphone/glasses front hair parts and bare leg parts to display her as though in her room. Her models of the Ghoulghilas and the Dévadadan along with a monitor with Alexis displayed on it! Be sure to add her to your collection!

“The kaiju have the leading roles!”

From the popular anime series “SSSS.GRIDMAN” comes an adorable Nendoroid of Akane Shinjo!

Her cute poses and expressions have been captured in Nendoroid form!

There’s a bit of a gap between the typical Akane and this expression.

Next, we have her utility knife, headphones/glasses front hair part, and bare leg parts.

The bare leg parts provide a bit of a different aura than her stockings!

Though small, Akane really sculpted it well!

Nendoroid Sho Fu Kan (Thunderbolt Fantasy Sword Seekers 2)

Today’s main feature…!

Today I’ll be taking a look at…

Nendoroid Sho Fu Kan

From the martial-arts fantasy glove puppetry series “Thunderbolt Fantasy Sword Seekers 2” comes a Nendoroid of the vagrant swordsman Sho Fu Kan!

He comes with three different face plates including his dignified standard expression, a chibi expression based on the character drawn by Yuupon as well as a beautiful expression based on the actual glove puppet used in the series!

Optional parts include his dull-edged sword, his umbrella and the Maken Mokuroku scroll. Be sure to add him to your collection!

The vagrant swordsman who traveled from Seiyu to Tori, “Jin Muho”

From the currently airing Thunderbolt Fantasy Sword Seekers 2 comes a Nendoroid of Sho Fu Kan!

Everything from his characteristic hairstyle to the fine details of his mild-colored outfit has been recreated with great care!

▲The metallic appearance of his hair decorations and the feathers in his hair are another feature! ( `･∀･´)σ

With the included interchangeable parts…

…you can display him with his sword drawn, like this!

His dull-edged sword, also known as Namakura Gatana, is included! As you can see, it is in fact quite dull! ( ・ﾉｪ・)

He also comes with his umbrella! ◎

Those of you that have seen Thunder Bolt Fantasy Sword Seekers probably recognize this umbrella…

Yes! This umbrella is based on the umbrella that was torn during the battle in the first episode! ( ；∀；)

There are other Nendoroids that come with umbrellas, but this might be the first ripped umbrella!

Based on the character illustrations by Yuupon, his chibi expression face plate goes quite well with the part, I think!

▲I love the spirals in his eyes! He’s so cute!

Same as with Nendoroid Lin Setsu A and Nendoroid Betsu Ten Gai, an expression based on the actual glove puppet used in the series is also included!

While Sho Fu Kan’s standard expression shows off his dignified and friendly appearance, this one is more suited for when he is facing down enemies in battle! (∩・∀・)∩

Nendoroid Archer/Arjuna (Fate/Grand Order)

This time of year I always feel so luxurious when I put marshmallows in my hot cocoa.

Who would’ve thought melted marshmallows could bring a person so much happiness…

Anyway, today I’ll be taking a look at…

Nendoroid Archer/Arjuna

From the popular smartphone game “Fate/Grand Order” comes a Nendoroid of Archer-class servant Arjuna! He comes with three face plates including his dignified standard expression, a shouting expression and an expression as though saying his “Oh? Master, have you taken interest in me?” line from the game!

His Noble Phantasms Agni Gandiva and Pashupata are included along with various effect parts. Additionally, the Arrow for Karna he gave to his Master on Valentines Day is also included. Be sure to add him to your collection!

“Karna. To think we’d be in the same faction…”

Originally from the Indian epic “Mahabharata”, the legendary hero Archer/Arjuna from “Fate/Grand Order” has arrived as an adorable Nendoroid!

The diligent hero has been carefully brought down to Nendoroid size!

▲His soft-looking black hair has been sculpted in detail! ♪

His Noble Phantasm Agni Gandiva and arrows are included! Even the effect parts of the bow string have been clearly recreated! ◎

▲The bow string parts can be removed, by the way!

As you can see, even the clasps on the sides of his outfit have been sculpted!♪

▲It’s easy to enjoy his elegant appearance even in Nendoroid form!

Nendoroid Beam Kirby

Today I’ll be taking a look at…

Nendoroid Beam Kirby

From the popular “Kirby” game series comes a Nendoroid of Beam Kirby! The Nendoroid makes use of a number of magnets for posing, making his movements smooth, natural and easy to pose!

He comes with three face plates including his standard smiling expression, an expression with his mouth wide open to display him using his inhaling ability as well as an expanded expression to show him filled up after inhaling! Use the included beam optional parts to display Kirby using his beam ability!

Have fun displaying with the now available for preorder Nendoroid Kirby and Nendoroid Meta Knight (both sold separately) for even more fun! Be sure to add him to your collection!

Beam Kirby is joining the Nendoroid line-up!

The lovable Beam Kirby has been transformed into a Nendoroid!

▲I love the fluffy look of his pom poms!

By the way, his two-branched hat is articulated!

This makes it even easier to pose Kirby!

Just like Nendoroid Kirby, Kirby’s arms and legs are magnetic, allowing you to easily pose him however you’d like with his base and support arm!

▲You can even make it look like he’s running, like this! =͟͟͞͞( ๑`･o･´)

In addition to his smiling expression face plate shown at the beginning, he also comes with the cute straight-faced expression shown above!

Woah! These stars coming from his staff…!

Yes, beam parts are also included!

A special support arm and base are included, making for easy display!
(｡･ㅂ･)ﾉﾞ✧*。

Next his third expression is his inhaling expression, showing him with his mouth wide open inhaling enemies!

A bit different from Nendoroid Kirby, Nendoroid Beam Kirby has a more serious expression on his face when inhaling!

His hat can be removed too, so display him however you’d like!

Finally his fourth expression is his expanded expression! ( ‘༥’ )

This part is a bit different from the other face plates in that it shows Kirby a bit more expanded than usual!

▲It’s quite the difference!

So in total you get the figure, 4 face plates, hat parts, staff and gripping hand parts, and beam parts!

Nendoroid Noriaki Kakyoin (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders)

Today I’ll be taking a look at…

Nendoroid Noriaki Kakyoin

From the anime “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders” comes a Nendoroid of the calm and composed Noriaki Kakyoin! The figure is fully articulated so you can display him in a wide variety of poses. He comes with three face plates including his standard expression, his intrepid emiling expression and his cherry-eating “Rero Rero” expression!

His smiling expression features scarred eyes from after his fight with N’Doul, so sunglasses are included as an optional part! Including a hand holding his beloved cherries, he comes with several different hand parts allowing you to recreate your favorite scenes from the series.

Effect parts based on his stand, Hierophant Green, are included as well so you can easily recreate battle scenes. Be sure to add him to your collection along with the previously announced Nendoroid Jotaro Kujo!

Today I’ll be taking a look at…

Hatsune Miku: Symphony 2017 Ver.

From “Character Vocal Series 01: Hatsune Miku” comes a scale figure of Hatsune Miku based off of the main visual from the full orchestra concert “Hatsune Miku Symphony 2017”.

Her chic dress has been faithfully recreated based on the original illustration by KEI. Miku holds her special violin while smiling our way. She has a somewhat mature charm about her. Her dress has been sculpted carefully making for a highly detailed and natural-looking silhouette. Be sure to add her to your collection!

“Now is just a prelude to the future.”

A scale figure of Miku from the Hatsune Miku Symphony 2017 main visual has arrived!

Miku has a bit more of a mature charm to her here, but her adorable innocence still shines through! ( ･ㅂ･)و ̑̑

Translucent parts are used to give her hair a light appearance!

Her hair flows with her dress, which has been carefully sculpted to give the dress a natural draping appearance. ◎

The dress is mostly black with accents of Miku’s signature blue color.★

Decorations on her dress and the ribbons in her hair allude to her standard outfit! ♪

▲Of course, “01” is written on her left arm!

Miku’s violin from the main visual has been recreated with translucent parts! (੭ुᐛ)੭ु⁾⁾

The bow and strings… everything has been sculpted in great detail! ◎

Nendoroid More: Masotan (DRAGON PILOT: Hisone and Masotan)

Nendoroid More: Masotan

From the popular anime series “DRAGON PILOT: Hisone and Masotan” comes a Nendoroid More of the dragon camouflaged as an F-15J, Masotan!

A standard face part and open mouth face part are included. Parts to display Hisone getting out are included as well. Interchangeable eye parts to change Masotan’s expression are also included. Be sure to add him to your collection!

Masotan!

The OTF Masotan has been transformed into a Nendoroid More figure!

He’s huge!

From head to tail he is longer than 20cm! Incredible!

Compared to a AA battery. This should demonstrate just how big Masotan is!

Ah, by the way, did you notice?

His front legs are interchangeable! Extended front legs and bent front legs are both included!

Not only is Masotan big, but also highly articulated! Look at the wings, for example!

You can see that the wings feature Nendoroid joints!

I imagined Masotan fishing off the coast of that uninhabited island when I took this picture!

Two joints are in each wing making for a wide range of possible poses!

Recreate poses straight from the show!

Up, down, left and right! They can be moved in all directions.

You can move his tail too, of course! Let’s take a look at some other points of articulation.

Neck:

▲What a wide range of movement!

Look at his ears too! Both the ears and two points of his neck are articulated!

▲No, no, no! Don’t eat that!

Next up let’s take a look at Masotan’s F-15J camouflage!

So cool! So cute!

Each piece fits on perfectly!

Take a look at his back legs for a second! Afterburners attach to his legs!

By the way, same as the front legs, the back legs have a bent and extended version included!

The cockpit at his neck is recreated with translucent parts! What a nice blue color.

Let’s take another look at the wings now!

These are articulated too!

The wings are so big when you fully spread them out.

Next let’s take a look at his face!

Masotan?

Ahhhhhhh, he’s so cute looking back like that!

As you can see, front and back facing eye parts for both eyes are included!

An open mouth part is also included!

It looks like he is yawning! As you can see, half-open eye parts are included too!

Finally… After a flight, a D-pilot must be sure to evacuate before being dissolved in there.

Yep, you can recreate that too with this Nendoroid More!
