Nendoroid Petite Falcom Heroine Set!

A collaboration between Falcom, Good Smile Company, Dengeki Playstation and Dengeki Online! A lovely Nendoroid Petite set of three Falcom heroines – Renne, Estelle Bright and Feena!

It’s Falcom’s 30th anniversary this year
The three heroines in the set were decided on by popular vote from among 125 heroines – ranging from the “Dragon Slayer” series to “The Legend of Heroes ZERO NO KISEKI”

125 different heroines!
Fans of the heroines all put in their votes and these three were decided on! You can find the full details of the results over at Dengeki.com!

She managed to grab an incredible 14619 votes, putting her in first place!
Taking a look at the prototype my very first thoughts were…

A nice dynamic pose wielding her huge scythe!

The long wavy skirt and hair really give it a lovely dynamic feeling! Her shoulder is fully posable, so you can also put the scythe in front of her if you prefer.

Moving on to the second most popular!
Estelle, also from Trails in the Sky!

She was about 2000 votes away from first place, coming into second with 12940 votes! She is posed with a lovely smile across her face in a pose that looks ready for anything! Although I’m certain that colorful outfit is going to give the production team some troubles! ^^;

Estelle comes with her weapon, a fighting staff!

Each of the characters in this Nendoroid Petite set comes with some optional part that can be attached and removed, giving you the choice to display them in a more battle-styled pose, or without their weapons for a less battle orientated pose.

Then we move into third place!
Feena from Ys I!

She placed 800 votes away from the second place position, putting her in third place! Feena has been a long time favorite, so I’m sure lots of fans will be glad to see her as Nendoroid Petite that they can keep by their side!

She comes with lovely wings and an angel’s raiment!

Creating an absolutely gorgeous figure over all – such incredible quality for such a small figure!! While she is wearing a very simple dress, it is still absolutely beautiful to look at and suits her figure so nicely! Plus the bare feet that you can just see through the flowing dress are a lovely sight!

Yesterday was an opening reception for those in the industry, which also included some announcements!

A quick explanation!

Good Smile Company has long been working with animation, games and manga – all of Japan’s popular sub-culture and is now working with the popular Karaoke no Tetsujin who boasts one of the largest number of songs including anime and Vocaloid tunes for all to enjoy. The two companies are working together to bring us a new cafe called the “Good Smile & Karaoke no Tetsujin Cafe”, which will be opening on the 28th October (Friday) in Tokyo, Akihabara.

That really was quite quick, but it sums it up quite nicely!
You can find it just off Chuuou-dooru – the 5th floor of AKIBA CULTURE ZONE!

Loads of figures and scrolls lining the walls!

The clean white look makes the place look nice and big and also looks very pretty! It creates such a nice atmosphere, that even makes it easy for girls to walk in!

This was the reception desk, just left of the main entrance! And on the other side of the reception desk was this…

A sales corner!

Loads of interesting goods from the cute to the magnificent were all lined up – lots of stuff I really wanted to get my hands on as well! Both GSC figures and theme goods for the cafe are on sale!

Alright, time to head inside!

Because today was just the opening reception, none of the chairs and tables are set out, but the space you see here will all become the main area of the cafe! All the latest GSC figures are displayed in the glass cases scattered throughout the area!

All sorts of original work lined up as well!

This cafe is going to work in a same fashion to the Good Smile Cafe in Matsudo, following different themes every few months!
Previously it was a Madoka Magica theme, but from December it will be following a “TYPE-MOON cafe for Carnival Phantasm” theme!

Many lovely figures to accompany you!

It’s a treat for figure fans, but it’s also an interesting outing for those who have never had much contact with figures – you get to see so many in one place! I can even see a 1/1 scale Neko-Arc staring at me from the left there!!

The lovely notebooks for guests!

The notebooks from the Matsudo Madoka cafe were also on display for fun! These notebooks are for any guests to write or draw anything they want! It’s great fun taking a look at what everyone has left behind in the notebooks!

I wanna go and try some of these as well! There is also of course a Madoka menu filled with lovely treats as well!

The name isn’t final though, it might still change. It’s a 1/8th scale figure but it really is an impressive size for that scale! And so detailed!

The event officially begins!

The event was run in two different parts – one aimed at the press and another which was a live NicoNico announcement. Lots of people were attending the press event all taking down notes throughout the presentation…

Tetsujin’s Hino, Brain’s Network’s Takayama and Good Smile’s Aki!

These are all the big names behind the Good Smile x Karaoke no Tetsujin Cafe!
Akiyama was the one who brought the other two together! Yay!

This Winter there are also plans to open a store in Taipei, Taiwan!
There are also plans to open more stores all over the world from next year onwards! This is becoming a huge thing!!

Next up, GSC made an announcement of their next big expansions!!

The creation of Ultra Super Pictures!
To put it simply, a brand new animation studio!

A whole bunch of wonderful companies working together on anime production, including Sanjigen, Oath and Trigger on the animation side and Nitroplus and pixiv working on the scenario team! You can see Nitroplus’ Dejitarou on the left and Sanjigen’s Matsumura on the right – they were also here for this wonderful announcement!

And the creation of Hightube!
Put simply, this is a new marketing company!

This is a collaboration between Cospa, Bushiroad and Good Smile. Just hearing those three names together gets me exited!
On the left is Cospa’s Matsunaga and in the middle is Bushiroad’s Kidani!

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m actually a huge fan of Kidani’s! 😛

Thus the announcement and opening reception have come to an end!

This is the champagne tower that was shown on the Nico live as well! It took ages to fill all the glasses causing quite some trouble for the host of the show… ^^;
 
 
We’re trying all sorts of new ventures in hopes to bring you all even more wonderful things in the future!

Another thing I must mention – I know that most of you reading this blog are figure fans, and I assure you you don’t need to worry about the figure side of things changing – they’ll be going ahead as always!! Trying to get hold of prototype figures has become quite a battle with the design team as of late! 😛

We always seem to need them at exactly the same time! But I shall not lose! I’ll just take it when I need it, as that wooser plushie can do nothing to stop me!

Today we’ll be taking a look at this figure:

From Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai:
Nendoroid Ayase Aragaki!

She is in the a friend of Kirino’s and is in the same grade at school – plus she also works as a model with her! She is the third Nendoroid in the series following on from Kirino Kousaka and Kuroneko!

You can just see her school uniform’s collar through her black straight hair!! Plus even as a Nendoroid the curves of her calves are quite a sight to behold!

Let’s move onto the optional parts!
Her cellphone and school bag!

This image is made to look like she is playing with her cellphone while on the way to school, but you can remove just the school bag and it looks like she is relaxing at home with her cellphone instead! or even switch expressions for an annoyed “Message Undelivered” pose! 😛

An upset expression!

Ayase knows Kyousuke is filled with tricks for sexual harassment, and this is exactly the face she would give whenever she suspected him!! She looks like she is ready to kill someone ^^; But even when she is angry she is still so cute!

She also has a bent arm to place on her hips!
This just makes her look even more upset! The arm is actually posable at the sleeve, so you can pose it at all sorts of different angles.

An unsure expression and folded arms!

This is of course to recreate all those scenes when Ayase is judging Kirino’s beloved otaku culture. I really like this picture – with the red cheeks, folded arms and the way her body is twisted back a bit – it really looks like she is trying to back away! ^^;

She also comes with the bent leg for poses like this!

She really doesn’t look very comfortable!

She is reading the ‘thin book’ from the series – it’s cover has been recreated to look just like the one from the anime! Although I’m afraid the contents couldn’t be redone. 😛 She also comes with arms to hold the book!

From ‘Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai’:
Nendoroid Menma!

From the super popular anime series that aired earlier this year, “Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai” comes this lovely Nendoroid of the mascot character of the “Super Heiwa Busters” – the lovely Menma wearing her simple, white one piece!

So many of the GSC staff were crying over this series! 😛
It was so popular with the WEB team that I remember one Thursday someone said, “We need to get this evening’s meeting over quickly! Ano Hana is on tonight!”! ^^

This is how she looks from the back!

Those of you who have seen the anime will know that Menma is almost always bare foot! There are very few Nendoroids with bare feet, so it gives her a lovely original feeling!

At first look her one piece might look a little simple, but if you look close there is very careful gradient paint work done for shadowed areas, and it actually has very fine little frills to it as well!

Let’s move onto the optional parts!
There are lots of parts that help you recreate some great scenes from the anime!

First up is outstretched arms!

This is to recreate the famous key visual from Chichibu Bridge!
This makes me remember Menma running around all playfully on the bridge!!

A flower, hands to hold it and a bent leg!

Okay… so does everyone know which scene this is…?
It’s from the opening song just before the title appears, Menma holds up a flower! It’s such a short scene and yet it leaves such a strong impression!

There is a bent leg for both left and right sides – and the big toe is actually visible on them… plus it’s slightly different on either one! 😛

A smiling face, her diary and hands to hold it!

An expression with an innocent little smile and closed eyes – such an adorable expression!! It will be used to recreate a famous scene a little later on, so remember it!

Plus the diary from episode 10 is also included!
It’s so tiny, and yet you can still even make out Menma’s handwriting inside! Yay!

A determined face and steamed bread!

This kind of shows off Menma’s childish side quite nicely! Such a cute expression that suits her so nicely! She also comes with some of the steamed bread she made in the series, along with hands to carry it! If you combine it with the Nendoroid playset (Japanese), you can kind of recreate Jin-tan’s room as well!

Flowers with stands and hands behind her back!

These allow you to recreate the scene from the ending theme!
The flower parts are connected with a ball joint so you can easily change the angle they are displayed at. The base for the final version is also planned to be a flowery one like you see here!

You can recreate the famous key visuals, the OP and ED as well as some of the wonderful scenes from the series itself! Great job, Shuu-chan!

It seems the area behind my desk is turning into a petting zoo! Whenever someone passes behind my desk, they often change the pose, or add something extra to the frog’s pose! It’s quite fun looking forward to how he will look next time I look behind me. 😛

But more importantly! That’s a prototype figure’s box!!

I know many have been waiting for more Nendoroids from this series – sorry for the wait! It certainly has taken a bit longer than expected, but she is finally here!

The 4th Nendoroid from Strike Witches:
Nendoroid Charlotte E. Yeager!

From the popular anime series ‘Strike Witches’ comes a Nendoroid of Charlotte E. Yeager, known more commonly by her nickname, Glamorous F. Shirley!

Yep, you can definitely see she has the biggest bust on the team when you line them up together! Important things like that are never forgotten!

You can see her lower half is looking lovely in typical Strike Witches fashion as well! They look like a bluish grey color!! The hip parts are of course posable, allowing for some lovely dynamic Strike Witch poses as well!

Let’s move onto the optional parts!
A bright smile and bent left arm!

Some bright smiling parts have been included with all the Strike Witches figures in the past, so of course Shirley will come with one as well! It’s so cute to see her with such a beaming smile! Combined with the bent left arm it really creates a lovely, happy looking pose – ideal for Shirley’s character!

A combat expression, an M1918 and a thumbs up!

Shirley’s weapon of choice is the M1918, which is included with lovely details! She also of course comes with a hand to hold the weapon!

She also comes with her Striker Unit!

Just like before, the propellers even spin around! Having these parts included means you can make all sorts of poses in midair, including battle scenes!

Plus you can’t forget the bunny ears and tail that appear when she uses her magic, along with goggles to allow her to fly at her top speeds!

A separate fringe part is included for the ears, but the goggles are actually attached using magnets – it can connect onto both the normal version and the bunny ear version, so you don’t lose out at all!

Well of course she is! It’s Kanzaki’s Miku-san!!

Aaah!! I wish she was real so I could touch those squishy looking cheeks! Even the transparent looking eyes have been perfectly recreated on the figure version!

Look at that exquisite hair color!

Max Factory obviously worked on the hair color was obviously worked on until it was absolutely perfect! I just can’t explain how much I love the airy look and lovely coloring on the hair! Plus that lovely transparent feeling! It’s all so beautiful!!

The fluttering skirt also shouldn’t be overlooked!

It’s not really an overly active pose, but just like the illustration, the smallest areas like the fluttering of the skirt still have a lovely dynamic feeling to them!! Small things like this are really what makes the figure come together in the end! The subtle little pattern on her boots are also a lovely little bonus to notice!

A close-up on the keyboard!

The texture even changes between the buttons and the keyboard! Such fine detail!! I must say that her hand also looks so soft and touchable here… (*ﾟ∀ﾟ)=3

The keyboard can be removed!

Though that alone seemed kind of lonely, so I gave her some leeks to hold! 😛 The leeks come with figma Miku, and are not included with this figure. I needed double-sided tape to keep them in place!

This has to be my best angle to look at her from! This picture has all my heart and soul poured into it, so I hope you like it as much as I do! :P！

What is it That Makes Figures so Amazing?

The blog has moved into its fifth year!
To be honest, I’m surprised I’ve managed to keep it going so long with a deadline of every single weekday! 😛

At first I remember I kept making mistakes in reports and caused a load of problems to everyone involved, including all of you – the customers, but I think I’ve definitely managed to cute down on those kind of errors now! (Except in some cases… like figma #100… )

When I started working at GSC, I made one promise to myself:

I might be making less mistakes than before, but as I continue I often wonder if I’m forgetting something important. So today I’m going to be taking some pictures of my favorite figures, and thinking about what exactly is it that makes them so special. To all those waiting for more product reviews – just be a little more patient! More are coming soon! So let me start with my single best things about figures!

(ﾟ∀ﾟ) You can touch them!!

Yep, you can see and touch a figure from any angle you please!

Something you can’t ever do in manga, games or anime!

The 2D has become 3D and become a step closer to the real world – a piece of the world of fantasy we love and adore has made its way into our real world, where we can put it on our desks and enjoy their company whenever we like! Isn’t that alone incredible!?

The figures you see here are the figures that acted as a catalyst for me getting a job here at Good Smile Company – the Fate/stay night Trading Figures. I was always a fan of the fate series, but seeing Takeuchi’s illustrations jump to life as figures was an incredible shock to my system – I couldn’t believe how incredible they were.

Plus they were such amazing quality for just 500JPY!

At that time I was collecting all sorts of gachapon and trading figures, and often felt that some work on the coloring or sculpting was sub-par – but I figured it couldn’t be helped due to the price. But just around that time all sorts of gachapon figures started to reach a whole new level of quality. Above my monitor you can still see Kaiyodo’s Chii gachapon figure, or Yujin Figure’s Lilith – those figures were so incredible that I couldn’t believe how little they cost. I still think it was all thanks to Kaiyodo that I ever got into the world of figures, and for that I will be eternally grateful.

So then I sent off my CV to Good Smile! 😀

I managed to reach the interviews for the job, and explained how impressed I was that Ilya’s coat could be removed leaving perfect sculpting behind to Aki and Akiyama.

You can put figures at any angle you like, and see them in ways you can never see from just illustrations!

It might make me sound a little crazy, but when I really like a series or character, I really seriously wish I could jump into their world. I can’t count the times I’ve heard friends that don’t understand saying things like “but it’s just a picture”, or “That’s just paper”.

But when I have figures, it’s like the world has come to my side – it’s like I’m in the same world as them, and can enjoy it so much more than just reading the manga or watching the anime. It’s a bit embarressing telling all my fellow workers at Good Smile all this, but I see it as a way of showing just how much I adore figures – they really are a part of my life!

(ﾟ∀ﾟ) Sculpting is the epitome of fine art!

Just look how beautiful figures come out!

As I said before, I really adore figures – but even if you didn’t hear my whole story behind why, I’m sure many people can understand just by looking at how stunning they are! Obviously they are all based on wonderful characters in the first place, but I really feel that figures themselves should be placed in a whole new artistic category.

Whilst they are based on an illustration, the figure version needs to be arranged in such a way that you can look at it from any angle and still have the correct proportions and look – it’s really a job that requires a lot of attention to detail, which explains why I see sculptors as having one of the most incredible jobs there is.

Some of my personal favorites are B★RS and Saber Lily!

Both of which are products sculpted by Good Smile’s wonderful sculptors! They really are so beautiful that I can’t help let out a sigh when I see them – this really is what I believe to be the work of top-notch sculptors!

As far as products I liked before joining Good Smile – I always loved Max Factory’s Jiburiru, I still have it displayed even now. That twisted body is such a wonder to look at!!

Changing the subject a little – moving on to my favorite sculptor, who at the moment is Chieri! No matter if it’s a luscious looking body, a really difficult pose or just a very nice natural look – Chieri always manages to get it all done perfectly. The cream of the crop! The figures done in bath scenes are – albeit a bit naughty – really incredible to look at…

Well, that was a quick blog looking at some of the wonders of figures and sculpting, but let me summarize it all up quick…

I absolutely love figures!!

 
 
I just wish I could pass on just how wonderful they are to more and more people – the one problem is I don’t want to seem like I’m constantly doing advertising and nothing else. 😛

Of course there are others that also pass on the wonders of figures, and I won’t stop doing what I have been for the past five years!

The Second Part of the Cheerful JAPAN! Project!

Nendoroid Puchitto Rock Shooter: Cheerful Ver.!

The 2nd part of the Cheerful JAPAN! Project brings a Nendoroid of Puchitto Rock Shooter herself from the NicoNico Application based on Black Rock Shooter – ‘Puchitto Rock Shooter’! As with most of the Cheerful Nendoroids she is wearing a lovely cheerleader outfit and is ready to cheer on for anyone who needs it!

The damage that has occurred during the March 11 quake in the Touhoku region is astounding, and in order to get over the destruction caused there is a lot that needs to be done, and lots of support that needs to be given. Good Smile Company has formed a support group named ‘Cheerful Japan’ which will strive to support the relief efforts for as long as possible. For at least 1 year we be releasing charity products among other efforts to raise donation money for the cause.

This is how she looks from the back!

She is wearing a lovely bright orange cheerleader outfit which is such a great energetic color to bring a smile to everyone’s face – she also has matching ribbons in her hair, which can be removed if you’d prefer not to have them. She also of course has joints in her twin tails they can be posed in all sorts of directions!

The well-known ‘cheerful’ parts are also all included!

First up are pompons and arms to hold them!

The pompons for Shooter-chan are the same brilliant blue of the flame that you can place over her left eye! The pompons included with her are also a different sculpt to those included with the Vocaloid: Cheerful Ver. figures, so there is some variety in that sense as well!

A support flag and arms to hold it!
The flag has the Cheerful Japan! logo plastered on the front – and Shooter-chan can wave it around to let everyone know she is cheering for Japan!

If you combine the flag with the bent legs it makes for an even more energetic pose! I really think this shot makes her look super cute!

She also comes with an alternate expression!

You can use this expression together with the standard Nendoroid Black Rock Shooter to recreate battle scenes of Puchitto Rock Shooter! 😛

Of course you can also just use it with the cheerleader outfit like above, it’s like she is telling me to work harder! Right – time to get to work!!

I was wondering how it would look to put the ribbons on her horns – I think it’s come out quite nicely! But they really are just balanced there at the moment and will fall off very easily – I’m sure some double-sided tape could fix that up though!

I’m sure some people will take a guess as to how it’ll look – but we’ll take a closer look at it later!

You can’t have a Mayoi-chan figure without her giant bird-shaped backpack! As you can see it really is big enough to hide almost all of Mayoi-chan behind it – and it’s rather heavy as well! 😛

A truly charming pose!!

She has such an innocent look on her face, but in contrast she is untying the ribbon around her neck with her mouth! The gap between the cute and the sexy is absolutely wonderful!

A closer look at her feet!

Hmm, no objections from me here. I’m personally a big fan of the line from her hips down to her thighs – it might be hidden underneath the skirt, but you can still get a good idea of how soft it is just from the way she is sculpted! Definitely a highlight of the figure for me!

The map and shoe can be removed!

Well… it’s not so much removing the map, as simply just placing it wherever you prefer. The shoe can be placed half way on like in the original illustration, or simply removed entirely. The map is supposed to be placed on her thighs, but it might be seen as covering up those wonderful thighs, so if you’d rather leave it off then you have that option! 😛

I’m very proud of this shot!

But I guess it’s mostly due to the fact tat the figure is so wonderful, more than my photography skills! 😛 I hope that at least some of the people who look at it will like it as much as I did. I call it “The boundary line of a young girl”.

Let’s take a look at the base now…

It recreates the BD/DVD package even more than before!

The figure is of course based on the 2nd volumes package illustration, and so the base was made to look like the background of the illustration! The shadow of Arararararagi-kun is also visible on the base!

This is the 5th in a series of figures that have all had incredibly detailed bases, so some might be disappointed here – but remember she has the huge backpack, plus the price is considerably lower than the previous four figures.

The backpack can also be removed!

Although the pose does look a little bit odd without the backpack there. 😛
I suppose that means that you can easily put something in it’s place, however!

The backpack has the bumps to connect onto Mayoi, so the figure of Mayoi herself looks just fine without the backpack attached. I actually really like the way she looks from this angle! The curved hips and soft looking arm come out very nicely!
