As with most years, I have decided to interview the Good Smile Company CEO, Aki-san, as a final bit of closure for the year! (∩・∀・)∩
( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ Let’s get right into it! How was the start of 2017?!
Time has just flown by, and yet there were so many things going on that the Winter Wonder Festival feels like it was around five years ago. We ran the “Good Smile Clinic” for the first time, announced all sorts of new figure projects and much more, making a nice start to the year.
We also had just started the Grand Summoner’s game… which admittedly had a lot of trouble at the start and taught us some valuable lessons about how to manage and run a game like that. It was very interesting to be dealing with the players of the game as well as the team running things as we strived to improve the game. It’s already so nostalgic to me!

( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ Nostalgic? How so?
Yep! As it was a new challenge for us there were all new things to worry about and deal with – the same goes for all the new figure and anime projects we are currently working on, but it really made me realize how important it is to sometimes sit down and concentrate on a project. Replay the game over and over and fix anything that doesn’t feel right and keep working at it until we can please the fans as best possible; no matter how many tries it may take…
( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ You also seemed to be going on a lot of overseas trips this year!
I took part in a lot of overseas events and really got the feel that the overseas market is expanding this year. A lot of the things that are popular in Japan now become popular with fandoms overseas at almost exactly the same time. I also once again realized that we really do have fans all over the world, which is such a wonderful feeling. In the past I’ve often just felt that being at the event and being told “thanks for coming” was enough, but it’s got to the point that we need to start treating our overseas fans with more care, and catering to their requests and wants as a separate section.
( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ The popular OVERWATCH series is a good example of that!
Yep. We are very grateful to be able to work with popular series such as this and reach a whole new market with our figures. This also opens up a lot of new options for companies related to us such as USP (Ultra Super Pictures) and more. I feel that this the start of the year featured a lot of thinking and decision making that led to more opportunities toward the end of the year and even further into the future
（ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ In April we celebrated Max Factory’s 4th Anniversary!
If Max Factory had never existed, Good Smile Company may never have even entered the hobby world. We actually entered the industry as a kind of support to them, and before we knew it GSC had become a company that completed focused on figures and the hobby world. Thinking back on it all is actually a really emotional thing to me. I can hardly believe that GSC has been around for 16 years now.
To think that the only Japanese pilot would come in first place in not only the home race, but the entire championship made for a very exciting season!! The event was packed with fans that had a very special energy that really built up to his victory! While it hasn’t yet been decided if the event will take place in Japan next year I personally would love to see it come back every year. This was a very different challenge for us, and it takes a lot of hard work, but seeing everyone enjoy themselves at the event is always worth it.
（ ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ Into July! WonFes! But… I believe you were at a race overseas at the time!
That’s right. I missed out on the Summer WonFes to attend the Spa 24 Hours race where we really felt the pressure of the overseas teams!! That said, GSC announced many interesting new projects at Summer WonFes!
( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ The Nendoroid dolls are one way to customize Nendoroids, but we also started a rather interesting service earlier this year as well!
The Nendoroid Face Maker! Nendoroids have always had the ability to swap faces between characters, but we wanted someway to allow fans even more options when customizing their Nendoroids. Thus this project was born!
We really went a little too far with this one! But the company has built an environment that allows everyone to try out new challenges like this one – we’ll have to wait and see how it pans out!
( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ huke’s collaboration with Masaki Apsy on a new plastic model project is also another project to look forward to!
huke x Apsy x GSC. A connection between figures and plastic models that honestly will be a very interesting project! I’m not sure if it will be more popular with figure fans or plastic model fans, but we’ll have to see! This has been a very fun item from conception all the way to where we are now. I can’t wait to reveal more info to everyone!

( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ On the 31st August, Hatsune Miku celebrated her 10th anniversary!
We’ve been releasing 10 years of Miku figures and even now they remain as popular as ever. This new 10th anniversary figure was made with the utmost figure to show our thanks to the virtual idol! The sculpt work really is on an incredible level, and I wish more people could take a look at the figure in person! The way each and every one of the strands of her hair have been put together… it’s something that should be so common for me to see, but this figure is just something else! Looking at it makes me think it looks more like a CG model than a figure.
( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ I also thought it felt very different when taking pictures for the blog!
Personally when looking at figures, the things that I feel are most important are a clean sculpt, accuracy and reproducibility. While I know there are many countries make figures with amazing details when sculpting, but I feel Japan is the forerunner when making and mass producing them and I feel that this particular figure is a perfect example of that. Thankfully we also have lots of people at GSC that take these sculpts and then make sure they move onto the next step in just as high quality.
( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ The next step?
An example that comes to mind is the recent figure of Shiro. I remember looking at the prototype and thinking the amount of detail was almost too high for mass production…
But when the sample came in from the factory, it was almost identical to the prototype. I was stunned. The factory even commented that if they receive something with such precise detail then they have to work equally hard to put out the same quality!
( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ Into the Winter! The final face for the GSR team!
Thanks to everyone’s support, we managed to take the champion title for the first time in three years! This year was the AMG 50th anniversary, Yokohama Tires 100th anniversary and Miku’s 10th anniversary, so it was the perfect memorial year to make a victory! We have also already announced the new Racing Miku design for 2018, illustrated by Hiro Kanzaki!
( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ Anyway, let’s step away from work for a bit. Is there anything else you were interested in this year?
Hmm… just the other day you may have seen there was a Kizuna Ai YouTube Video that I featured in. Ever since then I’ve been quite interested in looking at various YouTuber’s videos. The way they edit the talks and bring out that “YouTuber” feel almost makes it feel like there are unwritten rules to making videos on YouTube now, which is quite interesting. After watching a couple of different YouTubers I think I’ve started to understand why people become so addicted to watching these videos.
Also, I really enjoyed the Little Witch Academia anime series! To think that the series started as a single short film at Anime Mirai and managed to come all the way to become a full animated series. It has a very special place in my heart, and it has only come this far thanks to the support from all the fans!
Plus we have finally started getting things going with the second season of Thunderbolt Fantasy over in Taiwan. There was also a special movie edition that was in some theatres near the end of the year. I really am excited to see where the series goes from here on out.
I want to make myself useful to hobby and anime fans all over the world!
( ｶωｶ)ﾉﾞ Make yourself… useful?
Up until now we have always had our hands full planning items with mostly aimed at Japan, but we have managed to build up an environment that can start catering to more now. There are many opportunities for fans all around the world to see our products and learn about figures, and I think it’s an important time for us to start looking at the overseas market together with the Japanese market.
For example, there are some items that cannot be sold by us in Japan due to licensing issues but we can sell exclusively to overseas markets, and there are also certain series that have a lot more popularity in the West that we need to look into more – simply put, we need to start planning products aimed at overseas markets.
I know there are lots of fans of all sorts of different series out there, and I want to present our figures to those fans in a way that they can be satisfied and proud to own items from their favorite series, no matter if they are in Japan or in any other country in the world. That is how I want to be useful to the fans.

Today I’m going to take a closer look at the Nendoroid in celebration!!!
From the masterpiece romance visual novel “CLANNAD” comes a Nendoroid of the main heroine, Nagisa Furukawa! She comes with three face plates including a gentle standard expression, a bashful embarrassed expression and a heart-warming smile.
Optional parts include the green dango from the great dango family as well as some anpan and the amazing rainbow bread from her family’s bakery! Recreate your favorite scenes from the game and enjoy the adorable Nagisa by your side whenever you like!
“If it’s possible… I’d like to remake the Drama Club.”
From perhaps the most well-known of all the games made by Key, “CLANNAD”, comes a Nendoroid of the heroine, Nagisa Furukawa!! Ever since I joined Good Smile Company many years back I’ve always hoped I’d one day get the chance to create a Nendoroid of Nagisa… I’m so happy that the day has finally come!! ★

The slight wavy look in her hair is actually included in the sculpt to capture her original standing illustration from the game as faithfully as possible! If you look close you’ll also see the red hairpin at the side!

Her eyebrows are bent slightly downward look but her eyes have a bit of an upward gaze for a very adorable look! Her unique hairstyle has also been faithfully captured, and the sticking-up parts of her hair are attached with a joint allowing them to be moved around for different nuances!

The mysterious bread baked by Nagisa’s mother Sanae is included with the Nendoroid!! The bread makes use of a metallic green base with multiple layers of different colors on top to recreate the rainbow effect! This pose is intended to recreate the opening theme scene from the second season of the anime! She only appeared like this for a second in the opening theme, but the pose was so iconic to me that I simply had to include it as a part of the Nendoroid!

Santa KAITO delivering presents to Rin and Len as they sleep!! Such a precious photo with lovely attention to detail! Just looking at it makes me feel all happy inside!! ♥
To think you could make use of those hand parts to recreate a present opening scene! Genius!! It’s amazing what poses you can create with a little ingenuity!!
All of the Aqours Nendoroids dressed up in the Santa outfits that were released earlier this year!! Even though the poses are quite limited with these parts, these photos successfully bring out each of the girl’s characters! You can really feel the love for Aquors in these photos!
I took a lot of photos with cats for the April Fools Joke earlier this year, but most of them were always running around and making it hard for me to photograph! It’s lovely to see a kitty together with a Nendoroid in a much more relaxed pose!! ★
A rather different photo to most of the others, but that’s what makes it so special! The use of little extra parts and the background to add that little extra Christmas feel are all lovely… and the way Miku is staring right at me is lovely!

Today I’m going to be taking a look at… Nendoroid Kyouko Sakura: Maiko Ver.!
From “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” comes a Nendoroid of Kyouko Sakura dressed in a refreshing Maiko outfit. She comes with two face plates including a smiling face and a face with closed eyes, and she also comes with a drawstring bag to display with her!

Today I’m going to be taking a look at… Nendoroid Klaus V Reinherz!
From the anime series Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond comes a Nendoroid of the leader of Libra and user of the Brain Grid Blood Battle Technique, Klaus V Reinherz! He comes with three face plates including a standard masculine expression, an intimidating combat expression as well as a calm expression for more gentle poses.
He comes with a knuckle guard and hand parts wearing gloves allowing you to easily pose him in combat scenes. Other optional parts include his business card, a donut and a brown paper bag. He also comes with a clear plate with text based on his character introduction which can be placed in front of him to capture the atmosphere from the series! Be sure to display him with the previously released Nendoroid Leonardo Watch and recreate your favorite scenes from the series!
“Onward!! Let’s start by saving the world!”
The third son of the Reinherz household and leader of the secret organization Libra, Klaus V Reinherz is joining the Nendoroid series!!
His iconic hairstyle and fangs have been shrunk down to Nendoroid size and both look so adorable!!! Plus, even though his build has been adjusted to suit the Nendoroid design, he still keeps that big and bulky look from the series!!
He also looks awesome from the back!
The cross-shaped knuckle guard that is needed to pose Klaus in combat scenes has been faithfully included, and a gloved hand is also included to faithfully capture his fighting style!!
Just like the previously released Nendoroid Leonardo Watch, he also comes with a character introduction plate which can be placed in front of him like this to capture his introduction scene from the series!
Moving onto his 2nd face plate, we have a vigorous combat expression!
His strong will to protect his friends and the world is really captured in this expression!
His hips feature a ball joint allowing the hips to be displayed slightly forward or bent which allows for much more dynamic action scenes! ★
The open mouth of this face plate means you get a nice close look at his adorable teeth and fangs!!
Anyway, moving on to his third face plate we have a calmer expression for those more everyday scenes!! (*´꒳`*)
The sharp white eyes of this expression both capture Klaus perfectly and suit the Nendoroid design so nicely!! The mouth on this expression is also straighter on this face plate compared to his standard expression! ♡

Today I have an early Christmas announcement for everyone! Lancer/Jeanne d’Arc Alter Santa Lily!☆

Today I’m going to be taking a look at… Aoba: Gothic Ver.!★
From the popular PC game “DRAMAtical Murder” comes a scale figure of Aoba dressed in the Gothic outfit that featured in the Nitro+chiral Special Kuji! He is posed wearing a white coat featuring pearl paintwork for an elegant appearance as he stands with a charming smile on his face.
The feather accessories all over his design have been carefully included and made from translucent parts for a slightly transparent appearance that creates a high class appearance. His dog-type ALL-MATE Ren is also included in a similar outfit! Be sure to add this intricately sculpted masterpiece of Aoba to your collection!
A figure of Aoba in his magnificent “Gothic” outfit!
An item to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Max Factory as well as the 30th anniversary of Max Factory!! The figure is based on the Gothic outfit that featured in the Nitro+chiral Special Kuji originally illustrated by honyalala! The illustration looks absolutely fantastic transformed into figure form!! ★
All the charm from the original illustration has been captured in amazing detail, and all the details that were never even visible on the illustration have also been included!! Just look at the creases in his outfit, or the lovely flow of his hair!
The white coat he wears makes use of a pearl paint that gives a lovely glistening, elegant appearance that also brings out the texture of the outfit beautifully! ♪

His hat features an intricate feather that makes use of a golden paint that brings out that princely appearance perfectly! ♥

Another area that really stands out to me is… here!ヽ(ﾟ∀ﾟヽ 三 ﾉﾟ∀ﾟ)ﾉ
All of the fasteners along his chest have been carefully detailed, and the difference in the amount of creases in the outfit has been carefully adjusted to have more toward the bottom to match those pose!
The fact that he is leaning against the knight piece with a more relaxed pose means there creases are all the more realistic!!
The amazing attention to detail on the figure is simply outstanding!!
As a side note, the figure stands approximately 250mm in height! The current base is provisional, but the final version will be something similar! ε=(｡・д・｡)

His dog-type ALL-MATE Ren!
Ren is wearing a similar outfit to Aoba and looking lovely and regal by his side! His fluffy looking fur is just asking to be petted!!

He also is not attached to the base, so you can even choose to display Ren all on his own somewhere else should you choose! ♪
There really is way too much to enjoy about this figure to introduce with just one blog, so I’m going to have to cut it short, but let me end with at least taking a closer look at his facial expression! (｡･ω･)ﾉﾞ
The gentlemanly smile on his face has such a cool and composed look to it, with a perfect curve for his lips that has been sculpted with thrilling accuracy!! Simply changing the angle you look from can provide a rather different feel to his expression!
My personal favorite is from this angle!
The downward glance just seems to suit his regal appearance so perfectly to me!!
As I mentioned, the gentle smile from above suddenly has a rather different, somewhat condescending look from this angle!
If we instead move slightly more to the left though, the feel behind the expression changes once again and seems to make him look a little younger!
You can see the expression allows for all sorts of different opportunities when posing, so be sure to find your favorite if you choose to pick him up!! (/ω＼)

Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at… Nendoroid Abukuma Kai-II!☆
From the popular browser game “Kantai Collection -KanColle-” comes a Nendoroid of the upgraded version of the Nagara-class light cruiser, Abukuma Kai-II! She comes with three face plates including a standard expression, a half-damaged expression as well as a flustered expression. She comes with turret firing and torpedo effects, as well as a water skiing effect parts to display her maneuvering along the seas!
A miniature Daihatsu landing craft is included together with beach parts to display it on and a miniature Kouhyouteki submarine with water effect parts are also included allowing you to really bring out the KanColle world in your collection! The ship parts are also highly detailed, and the part attached to her arm can even slide out! Be sure to add the easy-to-use light cruiser to your fleet!

Her characteristic hairstyle has also been shrunk into Nendoroid proportions, but looks just as adorable as ever! Note that the left and right sides are slightly different, just like in her illustration! (｡･ω･)ﾉﾞ
In addition, the twintails are attached with a ball joint allowing them to be moved around to match various different poses!

Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at… Nendoroid Victor Nikiforov: Coach Ver.!
From the popular anime series “YURI!!! on ICE” comes a Nendoroid of Victor Nikiforov wearing his coach outfit! He comes with two face plates including a crisp standard expression as well as a amazed expression for when he watches Yuri’s performance.
Optional parts include his coach pass, a smartphone as well as the silver medal that Yuri won during the Grand Prix final! Be sure to display him together with the previously released Nendoroid Yuri Katsuki: Free Skating Ver. and recreate various scenes from the series!
“I don’t think I’d kiss anything other than a gold medal…”
From the series that has gained fans all over the world, “YURI!!! on ICE” comes a second Nendoroid of Victor Nikiforov, this time wearing his coach outfit!
His lovely long coat and gentle smile are ready to look on and watch over Yuri, but the Nendoroid also captures that strength of his character as well! He even has his coach pass around his neck, complete with a Nendoroid photo!

This time around his standard face has a slightly crisper, perhaps more serious look when compared with the standard expression that was included with the previously released Nendoroid Victor Nikiforov!
Compare the two different expressions above and below and I think you’ll notice the differences!
As you can see above, his coach pass can also of course be removed, and he also comes with his smartphone complete with the cover based on his skating outfit!

Those wide open eyes with a sparkle in them, blushing cheeks and straightforward gaze!! The expression looks so good in Nendoriod size!
Compared with his initial expression you can instantly get a feel for just how amazed he is!

Today I’m going to be taking a look at the 1/8th scale figure…
Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade: 12 Year Old Ver.!★
From the popular anime movie “Kizumonogatari” comes a figure of the younger version of Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade! The figure is based on a key visual used for the movie, and features Kiss-Shot wearing a white one-piece dress that gives a peek at her youthful body as she sits upon a table with a bewitching look on her face, capturing all the details from the original illustration as faithfully as possible.
The chair and table are both included with the figure and have also been intricately detailed to capture the world around Kiss-Shot together with the figure, creating an item that no fan should miss out on!
The champion of, and most powerful of the Oddities.
A 1/8th scale figure of the “Champion of Oddities” that has powers far above that of other vampires, Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade, based on her 12 year old appearance! Her lovely long blond hair that extends out along the table has been sculpted and painted with such a beautiful flowing look!

Those eyes make it seem like she can see right into your soul, but once you look into them it is so hard to look away!! (/ω＼)
Not to mention all of the defenceless looking bare skin that can be seen in the gaps of her loose dress!!
It’s a little hard to see in the photo above, but even her belly button has been sculpted in detail, and just take a look at the amazing collar bone you can see below!!
