Yes… the last article was indeed 10 months ago… sorry…

But the field trip series and ‘D.I.Y. Repair’ articles have been very popular! Today we’ll be looking at assembly, but first lets do some quick revision!

005

Let’s head to the production line!

But before that, let me just mention that the ‘Field Trip’ series actually goes between a number of factories – it’s not all from just one! The basic procedures are the same at all of them, but each factory has slight differences depending on the products they are working on.

007

Senjougahara’s stationery!

As I mentioned in a previous article, all the stationery falling from Senjougahara’s skirt is made piece by piece, and then put together by hand!

001

They are all adjusted to the same angle!

The three strange looking mountain things in the middle are in fact used to make sure that the angle is correct on each part. The one of the left is for the triangle, the middle for the eraser and the right for the craft knife! The toothpicks you can see are used for applying glue and small adjustments – just like at Good Smile’s main offices!!

002

It’s this part here on Senjougahara!

It’s quite amazing to think how much work goes into such a small area – every single figure has this area (and many more) done by hand! There have been tens of thousands of this figure sold worldwide, so that means that those little pieces have been carefully put together tens of thousands of times!

003

The little stationery is just incredible!!

Here they are connecting the stapler and pen together. The pen is so small it’s even hard to hold, let alone carefully glue onto an equally tiny stapler! Plus the parts have all been carefully painted, so you don’t want to mess up any parts that have all been so carefully painted!

006

Clearing dust away with a little duster!

Senjougahara has lots of clear parts around the stationery where dust really shows up, so they need to be dusted down. When you think of mass production you often think of tons of machinery, but that’s not always the case!

023

The factory worker’s cafeteria!

It’s lunchtime! The factory has a little cafeteria like this! I wanted to eat with them, but was told I couldn’t because I was a guest… 🙁

015

A Nendoroid Petite’s arm part!

The arms are being connected to the sleeves as nearly as possible! Nendo Petites tend to have a lot of little parts, so they’re quite a lot of work for the factory workers. I think the number of sleeves you can see on the left is a good example alone of how much work it must be!!

016

The complete parts all neatly lined up!

All the parts are lined up carefully so they they don’t touch each other and scratch off the paint from each other. It also makes counting such tiny parts much easier!

009

Putting the face and head together!

This is also done one-by-one all by hand! If the temperature is too low the PVC will shrink which will cause the assembly to be much more work, so the assembly is done under a warm light to make it easier.

008

Some film to stop paint from rubbing off!

Sorry the picture is a little bit out of focus… I’m sure we’ve all opened a figure before and found some of the paint has been scratched off or a line of paint is in the wrong place… nobody likes to see that on their figures! In the photo above, the film is wrapped around the expression to make sure that the color of the hair does not rub off onto it.

Those of you who have bought figures in the past will know that this film is found all over the figure when you first take it out of the box. To be honest, before I joined GSC I always thought it was just a nuisance to have to remove the film each time I bought a figure… but now I realize just how important it is to keep the figure in the shape it should be! I’m now very glad to see it on the figures as I know that the factory workers have been working hard to get the product to us in the best possible condition!

010

A Nendo Petite prop!

This little block is designed to make sure that the prop is not warped in any way, and will fit the product correctly. You can see the parts number written at the bottom of the block. Obviously this stand varies between products… but these Nendoroid Petite props must have been made tens of thousands of times!!

025

Samples placed along the production line!

This is a sheet of samples for Nendo Petite props and bases. It’s placed all along the line to make sure none of the factory worker’s lose track of what parts they are working with. If you look three pictures up, you can also see the sample if Ricchan’s head is stuck up for workers to confirm!

011

Rin-chan’s drums!

These are also placed into the blister packs carefully by hand! And then…

012
013

They are placed with the stand in bags!

Ah-hah! Now you can see just why the samples are needed – else you wouldn’t know which prop to put into the bag! I have to say again that the workers are incredibly quick at what they do! I guess they need to keep up a good pace so things don’t fall off later down in the production line.

014

They are then sealed with a machine!

The red machine in the middle of the photo seals the bag closed with heat. The worker with the GSC face then makes sure that none of the parts are missing from each bag. They check everything so carefully!! ((((;゜Д゜))))

026

A new production line for packing boxes!

Here the assembled Nendo Petites are all packaged and placed in boxes… I think we’re reaching the end of the process now!

027

The info booklet is added, and sealed in!

Gakkun from the production team is on the left here! He’s making sure that each of the final products is coming out as they should! Gakkun is very strict when he checks the products… a lot of the factory workers looked very nervous when he was around… which made me feel just as nervous! 😛

017

Finally, each box is weighed!

This is a final check that no parts are missing from each of the boxed products.

020

They are then all placed in a big box!

Nendo Petites generally come in a box of 12, but it would be rather disappointing if the box was fulled with all of the same character. To make sure each box of 12 has a good balance of characters, a box filled with all of the same character is sent through like this first, and then the boxes of 12 are organized afterwards. Once the boxes are sealed there is no way of telling what character is in which box, so they need to be very careful to label everything correctly!

024

Mission Accomplished!

Now after their long, long journey, the figures can be sent to Japan! Figure sculptors are incredible artists, but just as they are artists, the factory workers that mass produce the figures are artisans! Obviously each figure is considerably different, but in the end, all of them go through an incredible amount of work and love before they reach us! If I get another chance to visit China, I’ll be happy to visit again… I would even want to try my own hand at putting the figures together! 😛

018

Bonus Photos!

In the factory this panel was stuck up, showing the factory worker’s how boxes should be carried! It’s surprisingly easy to understand too!

019

A list of things that are not allowed!

Food of course is not allowed, but it looks like liquids are also no good! I guess it would be quite bad if some of the liquid somehow got sealed in with some products… ^^;

021

The Chinese streets!

I was brought here by car, and seeing all the stores along the street was very interesting! In the evening there were also lots of people walking about the streets. The air was a bit drier than I was used too, but not to an uncomfortable degree – I really enjoyed my stay in fact!

022

And the food was wonderful!

This picture is in fact a turtle dish! 😛
When in Rome act like the Romans! I decided I had to try some authentic Chinese food while I was visiting! I’m sure everyone will have different opinions, but personally I really liked the crab and yamcha tea. The mantis shrimp was absolutely huge – as big as the spiny lobster’s back in Japan! (I ate two of them! :P) I’m told that in China, meals are taken very seriously and it’s very common to have big meals with as many people as possible together.

And then the tea!! At one of the factories we were given some tea and it was absolutely delicious! I enjoyed sipping it down so much!

Finally… I have to say that I really enjoyed putting these reports together! If there are any requests for similar reports in the future, let me know by mail!

Anyway, that’s all for today!
I hope to see you all again tomorrow!! (・∀・)ノ゛

Nendoroid Rin & Len Kagamine: Cheerful Ver.

Apologies for the long wait!!

001

The 4th set of Cheerful JAPAN! products:

Nendoroid Rin & Len Kagamine: Cheerful Ver.!

They were originally scheduled to be shipped out in December, but were unfortunately delayed until January due to various circumstances. But they were sent out from GSC yesterday, so those in Japan should have them in the next few days – and those overseas a little while later! I’ll be doing a quick review of them today in the meantime!

002

This is how the packaging looks!

Looks like there is a lot of lovely goodies! 😛

Of course all the parts of the original Nendoroids are included, along with a collection of ‘Cheerful!’ parts! They each cost 3000JPY and for each sale made Good Smile Company donated 1000JPY to aid relief efforts!

003

The well-known ponpoms are included!

A lovely yellow very suited for Rin & Len! The ponpoms are connected as a single arm part, so you’ll be able to use them on other Vocaloid characters with the arm covers.

They make use of the arm-type Nendoroid stands!

The original Rin & Len Nendoroids used to make use of the stands that balanced them up by their hips, but didn’t allow for many poses. The arm-stand is of course made from clear plastic so it is doesn’t get in the way at all, but still holds the figures nice and firm!

004

Singing Faces and a Cheerful Flag!

One flag is included with each of them, and you can put them together like this for a joint pose! The reverse side of the flag doesn’t have anything printed on it, so you can place your own stickers or write your own message on that side!

005

Deformed expressions and other extras!

Rin comes with a microphone and Len comes with his keyboard! They also have hand parts to make sure of these extras, of course! Rin has a lovely innocent looking smiling face, while Len has an embarrassed face which is just as cute!

006

Stickers for the blank expression!

Rin & Len each have 4 expression parts, but one of them is left completely blank! The blank one is for you to make use of these stickers or others and make up your very own expression!

The hearts and musical notes at the bottom are for you to stick on the reverse side of the support flag if you want! There are also a few extra stickers like the Good Smile logo or the Good Smile Seijin for you to use however you want!

010

There are two sheets of stickers included.

One is at the top as you open the box, the other is on the reverse of the inside mat of the package.

The reason for the two sheets is that the original sheet (the one inside the package) ended up getting bent out of shape in some packages. So, we decided to include an extra sheet of stickers in case there were problems with the original sheet.

This was what caused the delay in shipping, and we apologize to everyone who ordered and had to wait longer than they expected! We’ll do our very best to make sure something like this never happens again.

007

Len comes with a megaphone and word plate!

You can either just pose him holding the megaphone, or attach the word plate as well, which reads ‘Let’s get through this together!’. Rin also comes with another blank plate for you to write something of your own, if you want to!

009

They can also use other expressions now!

The previous Rin & Len Nendoroids had differently shaped head parts, which meant that expressions from other Nendoroids could not be attached to them, but the new design allowed for a few changes which means you can use any other expressions on them now!

The expressions in the photo above come with other Nendoroids and are not included with Rin & Len – it’s just to show how much fun you can have by using some expressions from other Nendoroids in your collection!

The megaphone and whistle they have can either be held, or attached around their necks like the megaphone is here!

008

Displayed together with Miku!

The 4th set of Cheerful JAPAN! products:
Nendoroid Rin & Len Kagamine: Cheerful Ver.!

They were shipped out from Good Smile Company yesterday! Everyone who ordered should receive their figures shortly!

001

Yay, thank you!!

Hmm… it looks like nobody has noticed it yet. I guess that means I can play around with it first!

Completely unrelated – but I actually go the the Yamashiroya store quite often, so this packet was quite appropriate. 😛

002

Anyway, today I’ll be taking a look at this lovely figure!

The 4th in Phat! company’s Bakuman Nendoroid series:
Nendoroid Miho Azuki!

From the popular manga and anime series ‘Bakuman’ comes the 4th Nendoroid from the series – the beautiful Miho Azuki! The beautiful illustration by Takeshi Obata has been shrunk down to Nendoroid size perfectly! That long hair looks absolutely gorgeous! ((((゚Д゚)))

003

This is how she looks from the back!

Miho’s long straight hair can be seen here very nicely! The sides are layered and it is kind of shaped like an upside down U. She really is so beautiful, and the sculpting work brings that beauty out perfectly!

005

She comes with an embarrassed expression!

You can use the expression along with the arms held in front of her to create a really adorable looking pose! The shoulder part and arm can be separated, so you can attach a different arm to this shoulder if you’d like!

004

Miho looks exited about something!

These hand parts are connected at the palms, so they need to be used together like this.  But Miho looks so cute no matter what she is doing!! I’m fairly certain that if I was a guy I would have fallen for her in a split-second!

006

A dubbing mike and talking face!

Miho is trying to become a voice actress, so these parts just had to be included! The black circle thing in front of the mike (what do you call it?) is even included!

She also has a script for the ‘St. Visual Girls Academy’ show!
A whole bunch of parts to display her trying her very best at her voice actress career!

007

Displayed with Saiko and Shujin!

I love displayed full series together like this! I still think that Saiko came with way too many extras – that desk was such a lovely bonus! Also, don’t forget about Eiji Nizuma, who is currently available for preorder!

001

W-What?!

I’m sure certain people will recognize that hat very quickly!! Oda-P was in charge of this product! It’s only half way through the month and he is already out on his second trip to China this year… but at least that gives me a chance to play around with her! 😛

002

The 4th Milky Holmes Nendoroid:
Nendoroid Cordelia Glauca!

From the anime series with a brand new second season, ‘Tantei Opera Milky Holmes’, comes the last of the Milky Holmes girls Nendoroids – Claudia Glauca! That means we finally have all four of them to display together!! It’s taken a bit longer than expected, but we’re finally there!! I wanted to do a group pose, but unfortunately Nero was out on a trip to China… aww… 🙁

003

This is how she looks from the back!

Cordelia has lovely flowers scattered all over her hair! Although apparently they are quite a pain for the production team to deal with :P. But it wouldn’t be Cordelia without those flowers!!

004

Codelia’s ‘Toys’ expression!

As with all the previous Nendoroids from the series, Corelia also comes with an expression with closed eyes to recreate her using her unique ‘Toys’ ability. In Cordelia’s case, this is the power allows her to strengthen her senses! You can combine this with the bent arm part and it makes it look like she is trying to hear something far in the distance! (The bent arm in included for both her left and right arm!)

005

Next up is this delusional expression!

Cordelia often gets so exited about something that she turns into a completely different person like this – her eyes become flowers and she gets super exited! It’s so cute to see her displayed like this!

Of course her hat can also be removed! (・∀・)ゞ
This has also been a common part of the series! It’s apparently quite a challenge to get a deformed figure like a Nendoroid to keep a nice balance with and without a hat, but the Milky Holmes series has achieved it wonderfully!

006

Cordelia Gray has taken over!

         ____
      /:::::─三三─\
    /:::::: ( ○)三(○) \  ”Yay!!
    |:::::::::(__人__)::| Now the whole series has ancestor parts!”
     \::::   |r┬-|   ,/
    ノ:::::::  `ー’´   \

These parts allow you to recreate Cordelia when she was possessed by her ancient ancestor, Cordelia Gray, in episode 8 of the first season of the series!

An extra expression, a cape with big breasts, and hair standing straight up! So many extra parts to enjoy!

So in total… there are four expressions, two different different hair parts and still even the extra cape with bigger breasts! Nice work Oda-P!

002

The 4th Milky Holmes Nendoroid:
Nendoroid Cordelia Glauca!

She will be on the GSC website from tomorrow!

1/8th Scale Madoka Kaname

A cute little hanging Kyubey!!

    / ー‐ ィ

I’ve been hanging this Kyubey off all sorts of different things!!
Off my finger, off the ankles of all sorts of figures and even on the edge of the ping-pong table. The figure is almost worth it for they Kyubey alone! 😛 But of course, he is just an extra to the main wonderful figure you see here:

003

The first of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica 1/8th scale figures:
Madoka Kaname!!

A lovely 1/8th scale figure of the main character from the anime series ‘Puella Magi Madoka Magica‘! She is posed in a lovely dynamic position based on a key visual used for the anime.

The final product is absolutely fantastic!!

Most of the staff are really impressed that even after mass production the final version came out pretty much identically to the prototype figure! Tsukki from the production team really must have worked hard to get this quality out!! I’m certain anyone who picks her up will be quite satisfied – if you’re not sure if you want her, then I think you might change your mind after seeing just how lovely she looks – prepare yourself! 😛

004

This is how she looks from the back!

She is in a lovely pose with her whole body kind of twisting slightly. The skirt is so puffy which makes it absolutely huge – I’m sure it was quite the task to get the balance looking right with this skirt, but she really looks perfect from any angle. Oda-P was directing the design for the figure, and I’m told he paid great attention to making sure the figure looked balanced from all sides!

005

The ‘Madoka Pink’ came out perfectly!

Those who watched the live broadcast awhile back with Max Watanabe will know that getting this pink color right was a very difficult task. Hiro was working on the coloring for this figure, and apparently had the same trouble. But as you can see, it came out wonderfully in the end! She looks beautiful!!

Plus, you can hang QB off her arm like this – so cute!!

009

Beautiful sculpting all the way down to her toes!

The shoes are coated in a shiny enamel paint. Even the soles of the shoe and the black line separating it look incredible! It almost seems like a waste to see such small parts end up so detailed – but it shows you just how high the quality standards are for the figure as a whole!

006

Even when I zoom up close she still looks flawless!

The thin lines from her breasts down to her skirt were painted on using mask painting. The lines are literally smaller than a millimeter! The factory workers impress me every single time….

The skirt also has a lovely faint gradient. It’s actually used all over the figure, not only on the skirt – but it’s easy to see on the skirt! 😛

007

Can you see all the gradient painting in this photo…?

It’s quite hard to tell in this picture, but there is a gradient on Kyubey, the ribbon around her neck, her puffy sleeves, the frills on her outfit and the skirt!

Personally I’m really impressed with the graident on the inner red frills on her sleeves. It’s such a small, almost unnoticeable area, but even so the extra effort is put in! This is where the finer quality of figures comes in!

008

You can also let her hold her bow!

She has a replaceable wrist part which lets you pose her holding her weapon of choice – the bow! I really don’t know how I would choose to display her!!

The stand uses a clear plastic with a red gradient. It’s simple, but still looks great! Apparently if you push it down hard it sticks on like a suction disk. 😛

002

All the Madokas displayed together!

A special service shot for those who read all the way to the end… 😛
Sayaka-chan’s prototype figure is complete!!

I was going to show a picture from the front, but then Hiro told me the face still hasn’t gone through it’s final adjustments… so I wasn’t allowed to. I thought she looked adorable as she was! 😛

Anyway, that means the prototype review is going to be delayed a little bit, but she will be here in a few days! Look forward to it!

So we can’t… use them?

005

Oda-P has also collapsed in despair!

But in the end the most important thing is to make sure the figures get to you as early as possible, and with the Chinese New Year coming up, we decided it was all the more important to send the prototypes through a little bit early.

I wonder if that Gundam-like model is a custom of Oda-P’s?
(Oda-P loves his Gundam! :P)

007

So… I can give you a look from behind!

Well, I can’t show the expressions, but we can still look at her like this! We’ll take a look at the official photos instead, but I’m still a bit sad that I can’t take photos myself. Anyway, let’s look at the official photos from the professional!

001

From the anime Amagami SS:
Nendoroid Ai Nanasaki!

From the anime that has just picked up it’s second season ‘Amagami SS’ comes the second Nendoroid of the series – the newest member of the swimming team, Ai Nanasaki.

She comes with three expression parts, including an embarrassed face, a smiling face and an exited face! To be able to spend everyday with this lovely lady… I know she’ll give me the strength to get through the day.

003

First up is the smiling face!

She also comes with a school bag as an optional extra to display her on her way to school. The bag ic connected to the hand, but the hand removes from the arm, meaning you can put it on other characters easily!

002

Next up, the exited expression!

Her cheeks are all blushed with a cute smile across her face! It’s so cute! If you combine it with the two bent arms like this she looks so innocent and defenseless!

004

“Look!”

She even comes with parts lifting up her skirt!!

I don’t mean to spoil the show… but those who have seen it will know this isn’t actually her panties – it’s just a swimsuit, so this isn’t really a naughty picture at all! You can even see the blouse beneath her skirt if you look carefully – it’s nice to see things like this that you can’t normally see on figures! But a pose like this combined with the ‘behind the knees’ pose from Haruka …. this Amagami Nendoroid series has some very unique parts!

006

Displayed together with Haruka-senpai!
This expression doesn’t actually come with Ai though, it’s just a full-in! ヽ(*゚д゚)ノ

She will be on the GSC site tomorrow!

001

It’s almost Chinese New Year, but just before that we get lots of samples to play with here in Japan!

Apparently the Chinese New Year was earlier this year compared to normal, so the production team has been working very hard these past few weeks! They’re also working on the changes for the WonFes products at the moment – so I’m sure they’re under a lot of pressure! But even through all of that, I found two lovely figure samples to take a look at!  (`・ω・´)ゞ
002
Right off the bat…
Look how sexy they both are!!

These are the kind of figures that I love to photograph!!

Don’t get me wrong – I love taking pictures of Nendoroids ans figmas as well, but scale figures really bring out the characteristics of the characters so beautifully – I absolutely love taking pictures of them. Thus I’ll be sure to get the sexiest pictures possible of these two beauties! (`・ω・´)ゞ

003

Max Factory’s:
1/7th Scale Catherine!

A 1/7th Scale figure of the mysterious character who suddenly appears before the main character, Vincent, in the popular action adventure game – ‘Catherine’. She is posed showing off her lovely long legs as she pulls on some stockings, along with a naughty look gazing ahead at you!

005

The sculpting around her collarbone is perfect!

Catherine has a great sense of style along with a lovely slim body – and the sculpting just makes her skin look so soft to the touch. It looks so smooth that you almost can’t help but touch it!!

004

Nobody can so no to these thighs!
It’s a picture that really teases you for just that little bit more… ^^;

One bare foot, and one foot in a stocking!

The strange sense of unbalance seems to suit the mysterious Catherine so very well! I know there are lots of people who prefer figures to show it all, but for someone like me who likes the appeal of just not being able to see, the one covered foot has a lovely appeal!

007

Just look how lovely her back is!

Just look at the shoulder blades… or the waist… or the hip-line… everything is so beautiful! Sure this might be a figure… but I think most girl’s backs are just as beautiful! I can understand why guys want to come for hugs from behind sometimes.

009That devilish expression!!

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but her lips actually even have a gloss on them! If you change the angle a bit, you can also get a little glimpse of her front teeth!

Plus her winding twin tail hair looks absolutely stunning! It’s almost like they worked too hard on this figure!

008

Next up is Good Smile Company’s:
1/8th Scale Arséne!

The leader of the evil Phantom Thief Empire, from the popular anime series ‘Tantei Opera Milky Holmes’! She is posed in the sexy scene from the ending credits of the first season! She is wearing a black bondage outfit with her hips twisted and one of her fingers pushed into her boot. A very sexy pose for fans to enjoy!

011

This needs no comment!!

008

Her mask can be removed!

When I did the prototype review, I didn’t even know this was possible… I only found out about it afterwards 😛 I’m glad I managed to get some pictures of her without the mask  this time around. Just look how she looks down on everyone!! (*゚∀゚)=3
009

A lovely outfit and beautiful body-line!

The little bits of her stomach that you can see through the lacing on her outfit are so compelling… along with that one little finger pushed into her boot and that posing… nobody can argue about the erotic quality of this figure!

012

Max Factory’s:
1/7th Scale Catherine!

She will be sent out from GSC on the 12th January!
So you should she her in stores starting from the 13th.

013

Good Smile Company’s:
1/8th Scale Arséne!

She was sent out from GSC today!

If you’re lucky, you’ll find her in stores tomorrow!

If you have any sales or order queries relating to either product, be sure to get in contact with our partner shops.

001

While wandering around the office, I found an interesting looking box at Sacchan’s desk…

As it’s the first prototype review of the year, I can’t wait to get started!

…or so I thought…. but my beloved Sony Alpha 350 camera is behaving quite strangely… it’s still working, so I’ll continue using it for now… it’s just acting up sometimes. This camera has been with me on the best of days for many years… I can’t just abandon it!

002

The first figure review for the year will be…

The 9th product from the Cheerful JAPAN! Project:

Nendoroid Luka Megurine: Cheerful Ver.!

A special Cheerful version of Nendoroid Luka is here to join the rest of the Cheerful JAPAN! series! Along with Octo-Luka!

003

Cheerful JAPAN!

http://www.cheerfuljapan.com/

The damage that has occurred during the March 11 quake in the Touhoku region is astounding, and in order to get over the destruction caused there is a lot that needs to be done, and lots of support that needs to be given. Good Smile Company has formed a support group named ‘Cheerful Japan’ which will strive to support the relief efforts for as long as possible. For at least 1 year we be releasing charity products among other efforts to raise donation money for the cause. To everyone who supports the Cheerful Japan movement – thank you, and know that your money is going where it is needed!

004

As always, all the original parts are included!

But there are also various ‘cheerful’ version extras!
The arm parts on this version are also separated in a better way. There is a connector between the upper arm and hand parts, allowing you to exchange hand parts, and rotate them!

003

Luka’s lovely singing face!

Singing with her eyes closed… Luka looks so mature compared to the other Vocaloids. The Octo-Luka next to her also has two posable tentacles! Lovely!

005

The ‘Agoaniki’ expression!

She also has hands spread out to the left and right, which all together let you recreate the pose from the Double Lariat music video! I really love Agoaniki’s songs! They’re really touching. (I even went to Osaka to watch the live :P)

006

Now we’ll take a look at the Cheerful parts!
First up is her ponytail!

Luka has tied up her long hair so she can better cheer on for everyone! It’s amazing how different she looks by just changing her hairstyle… but the ponytail really suits her! Somehow it makes me want to put on apron on her…

007

This is how she looks from the back!

You can even see the little waves at the tips of her hair! The ponytail is also fitted with a joint allowing you to move it around however you like!

The back of Octo-Luka is also adorable! It’s so round! xD

008

Pink pompons!

As with all the previous Nendoroids in the Cheerful series, Luka comes with her own pink pompons to cheer everyone on! If Luka were to cheer for me, I know I’d be able to get though the day with no problems!! 😛

She also comes with a new bent left arm!
Luka normally has a kind of bracelet covering up her arm, but that was removed for the bent arm. If you look at the picture below an compare the arms it might be easier to see what I’m talking about. In order for her to be able to hold the optional parts, we needed to replace the big bracelet with a smaller gold ring – I think it suits her quite nicely.

009

She also comes with a tambourine!
… and Octo-Luka has a sun-visor!

Both of these have the Cheerful JAPAN! logo printed on them! The sun-visor is Nendoroid Petite size, so you can attach it to other characters as well! (Well… at least most characters… there might be some it won’t fit on!)

002

Good Smile Company’s 2012 New Year Cards!

2012 has come to Good Smile!!

11

This year around the public holidays bashed into the New Year a bit leaving quite a few people with a very short break… but I hope everyone enjoyed the new year nonetheless!

I enjoyed some delicious New Year food and ate loads of ‘omochi’ rice cakes! But we started work here at Good Smile on the 5th once again… if only we could keep that New Years feeling going on for the whole year!

There are 37 days till Wonder Festival!

That’s just 24 working days!

To everyone in the industry… this is like a death countdown! xD Good luck to all the figure companies and sculptors!
22

Today’s blog might seem like nothing but publicity… but I hope you’ll give it a read!

Good Smile’s 2012 New Year cards!!

This year’s cards were designed by the design team boss and Aki!

A New Year Scratch-card!

The gray parts on eyes and mouth are like scratch-cards – the right eye shows your luck for this year, the left eye is either ‘Win’ or ‘Lose’ – it’s a card with a built in reading for the year!

33

Let’s get to the scratching!

You get to say something on Mikatan Blog!

A rather tiny little prize… but at least it’s something! But don’t worry, the product reviews will be coming this year as per normal!

There are just a few notes for those who won:

(1) Send a mail to the specified e-mail address with the title:
“当たったよ” (I won!). The closing date is the 11th January. (Wed)

(2) Meiri will send you a reply to confirm.

(3) If there are too many entries, the ones used will be selected at random!

(4) You can only send one picture, and the text can only be up to 1000 characters in length. Send that along in the mail.

(5) The winners will be announced on the 16th January!

– The date the post will be upped can’t be specified. Sorry!
– The posts will be placed at the end of each Mikatan blog.
– No erotic stuff allowed. Sorry!

I’ve already received some mail from some of the winners… but I’m very interested to see what the people who are not involved in the hobby industry will send for me to put up on the blog! (There were even some people from a law firm!) They’ll all be up on the blog to see shortly, so look forward to them!

The 2011 Good Smile…

Product Ranking!

This year was GSC’s 10th Anniversary and we put a lot of work into approaching the overseas market as well! So today I’ve split up the rankings into ‘Japan’, ‘Overseas’ and a combined ranking of both!

First we’ll look at the ‘Japan’ and ‘Overseas’ rankings!

If you compare the two you can notice quite a few differences!

The ranking only includes products that have been released in 2011, so products still up for preorder don’t count!

I’m pleasantly surprised to see figma BRS2035 at the third place position in the overseas ranking! There are also a couple that didn’t even feature on the Japan ranking, such as 8th place – Nendoroid Ikaros and 23rd place – figma Robocop! All-in-all though, I think we can say it was very much the year of Madoka Magica!

Of the 20 products here, 15 of them are figma or Nendoroid products!!
They are unparalleled in popularity it seems! But I guess that just goes to show that the scale figures that made it into the ranking must have been impressive to beat some of the Nendoroids and figmas in sales.

Nothing but names from Madoka and Miku!! 😛
I’m personally very happy to see the posable Nendoroids – HMO and Snow Miku so high up in the ranking! I hope we’ll see more posable Nendoroids in 2012! (Just my personal hopes, though :P)

We received so much lovely feedback about this one as well! The lovely Nendoroid Madoka takes third place this year!! It was a great product, and the included QB was just too cute!

Nendoroid Miku Hatsune: Cheerful Ver.

Miku ends 2011 as the best selling product of the year!!

Not to mention that this Cheerful Ver. of Miku was sold to raise funds to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Thank you so much to everyone who purchased her. I hope those in the affected areas are on their way to a full recovery!

Last but not least, let’s get Aki’s opinion on the 2011 Ranking!

00

■ Ranking Trends & General Overview

The figma and Nendoroid series were once again a great success this year, all thanks to all of you.

These two series have been great sellers for four or five years now. To think they started out at a hobby market a few years ago… I think that’s just a great example of how the support of hobby and figure fans have grown. I am so very glad that we work on products from so many different series to bring figures from those series to life for the fans. Looking through the rankings I can once again see Miku’s popularity stands out incredibly this year, along with the popular Madoka Magica series. Over these last few years it’s been more and more common to see the series of a specific year appearing on the top rankings the same year the series is produced – this is mainly because we have started working on figures before series even begin to air, which helps us to complete the long figure making process much faster and release the figures closer to the time the series air.

I think that compared to in the past, figures have gained a much more important role in supporting the series they come from. This is of course all thanks to all the figure fans over the world. One of the most amazing things about this ranking is to see that Nendoroid Miku Hatsune: Cheerful Ver, as a charity product, managed to reach the number one spot in sales this year – the first in an ongoing set of charity figures that is still going strong. Cheerful Miku alone managed to sell over 74000 figures worldwide, allowing us to donate an amazing 740 million yen to help relief efforts. In total this year, the Cheerful project has managed to raise well over 1.5 hundred million yen. A big thank you goes out to all the licensors that allowed their products to be sold as charity products, but even more of a thank you needs to go to everyone who actually purchased the products. It makes me proud to see a charity product selling so well.

We announced the overseas ranking this time around.

I personally found the differences between the Japan ranking and the overseas ranking to be very interesting. The overall ratio of local to overseas purchases increased again this year, but in particular the following products were very popular overseas: Nendoroid Ikaros, figma BRS2035, figma Black Gold Saw, Nendoroid Nymph and figma Strength – in that order. Over 20% of Nendoroid Ikaros’s sales were made overseas, which really shows you that ‘Sora no Otoshimono’ is very popular overseas, particularly over the rest of Asia. We could also tell from the number of units sold that Miku Hatsune, Madoka Magica and Black Rock Shooter are also very popular overseas.

We’re looking over the year of GSC just based on sales rankings here, but 2011 was filled with a lot more than just that for us – it was a year with lots of change for us. Ever since the disaster in March, I tried my best to stay strong and keep busy with work, which lead to the establishment of a GSC Shanghai division, a lovely new cafe in Akihabara as well as another in Taiwan, being a part of the new contents management support company, ‘Hitube’ as well as the creation of ‘Ultra Super Pictures’, a new anime production studio. It has put a lot into place for some great things to happen in the coming year! It’s amazing to have reached the 10th year as a company, and still be surrounded by great, reliable people to work with each and every day.

Another amazing part of the year was of course the 4th Super GT for Good Smile Racing – where they managed to become the champions for the very first time.

2012 marks the start of the next 10 years for Good Smile Company.

We’ve reached the 10 year mark, and it’s been an incredible ride. Now it’s time to start up the next ride, so that the next 10 years can be even better! All the staff here at Good smile are heading into 2012 with a bunch of new ideas and surprises in the works!

Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year, and I hope that the coming year will be a great one for all of you!

That brings the 2011 product ranking to an end!

I was happy to bring you all loads of figures once again this year! I hope you all enjoyed reading the blog, and I hope to see you all again next year as well!
