Rerelease & New Product Requests!

Good Smile is 10 years old!

Thanks to all your support over the years we’ve managed to grow more and more!

In May we will be turning 11, so to celebrate the end of our 10th year we will be running a special project!

http://partner.goodsmile.info/sousenkyo/index_nendoroid.php

Rerelease & New Product Requests!

We’ll be listening to which products you want to see go on resale, and which characters you want to see figures of in the future! Unfortunately we can’t guarantee that all the most voted products will be put on resale or made into products, but there is always a possibility – so feel free to add your opinion!

bb

These buttons are the resale buttons!

They are divided into three categories – Nendoroid, figma and scale figures. All the products released up until 2012/04/10 (with the exception of Cheerful JAPAN! and limited edition products) will be available for you to vote on.

For example, just select the ‘Nendoroid Series Resale Button’, and then all the Nendoroids will pop up for you to select which one you want.

       ______
/ \ /\
/ し (>) (<)\
| ∪ (__人__) J | ________
\ u `⌒´ / | | |
ノ \ | | |

You can select up to five products that you want to see rereleased!

Of course you can also select beneath five if there are only one or two figures you want to go on resale. You can only vote once though, so be careful with your vote!

Once you’ve made your selection, head to the bottom of the page and press the ‘Select These Products’ button. (上記内容で送信する)

dd

Then the top 20 products will be displayed!

These results will be updated in real time, so those who have voted or those that just want to see the results can simply click the ‘See Results without Voting’ button (回答せずに結果を見る), where you’ll be able to take a look at the up to date results.

cc

The button on the top right is the ‘New Product Request’ button! (商品化希望アンケート)

You need to fill in:
‘Series Name’ (作品名) : ‘Character Name’ (キャラクター名) : ‘Product Genre’ (ジャンル).
For example…

Inu x Boku SS : Ririchiyo Shirakiin : Nendoroid
Fate/Zero : Ryuunosuke Uryuu : figma
KAITO : KAITO : Scale Figure
Good Smile Udon : Gumako : Plushie

Just input your own requests like the examples above!
Please be sure to input everything in correctly!

The deadline is the 1st May at 12:00 PM (JST)!

Please send in all your requests!!

Finally I’d like to reiterate that there is no guarantee we can put the top figures on resale or make figures out of the most requested new products.

There are a number of reasons that could cause this, so I’m just pointing it out ahead of time… of course we will do whatever we can to get the most popular products back into production, so we look forward to seeing what you request!

– 10 Years of Good Smile Company : Nendoroids of the Past! –

There are only 21 days left until Good Smile turns 11, and so today I’m going to take a look at a very old Nendoroid!

001

Released in February 2008:

Nendoroid Joy Max!

At WonFes 2008, Nitroplus’ public relations mascot got the Nendoroid treatment!! Looking back on it now I can still hardly believe it… It was also the first Nendoroid to ever have realistic hair… an interesting challenge for the production team. 😛

002

This is how the packaging looked!

So much more simple when compared to the packaging of today’s Nendoroids… she came with three optional parts – a microphone, comb and fluffy pink accessory!

She cost 3000JPY back then… at the moment you get so much more for the same price. ^^;

Anyway, that’s all for today!
I hope to see you all again tomorrow!! (・∀・)ノ゛

“We Still Don’t Know the Nendoroid Menma we Photographed That Day” – Photo Contest Results!

The photo contest that started on the 6th March!

001

The “We still don’t know the Nendoroid Menma we photographed that day.” Photo Contest!

A big thank you to every one who entered the photo contest! I looked through all the entires together with Shuu-chan, who was in charge for the planning of Nendoroid Menma!

All of the photos were filled with love for Menma, and many made me realize just how many different ways there are to take photos! There were also many photos that were so beautiful they literally took my breath away for a few seconds….

It was very hard to pick winners, but in the end Shuu-chan picked a total of six photos, and I picked a further three photos for a total of nine winners!

Title: Menma’s Delicious Steamed Bread Delivery!

The rain and clouds have been covering the sky for most of this week, but today there was a little bit of blue sky so I decided to take my photo!

Although a clear sky during these months means the pollen is worse and my allergies act up all the more… at the moment my eyes are all teary and my nose is running just like it was when I watched the last episode of the Super Peace Busters!

– Mahokona

A Petite Nendoroid Menma driving the big Menma who is determined to deliver her bread! It’s a rather odd picture, but still makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! 🙂

003

Title: Can’t Have Ramen Without Her!

I made some Ramen today.
Me: “Time to eat… but wait a second…”
Me: “Something’s… missing…”
Me: “Menma isn’t here!!!!!”
Me: “Ramen without Menma isn’t Ramen at all!”
Menma-chan: “You called?”
Me: “…. ^^;”

– Kuroken

Just as I expected from the title!  Menma looks enthralled by that delicious meal!

004

Title : The Flowers That Bloomed that Summer Evening

I loved the show so much! This was my first ever Nendoroid! I love choosing between all the different expressions.

– Orubuku

The photo has the same gradient as Menma’s eyes!

Menma has that air of innocence about her, which the light, mysterious atmosphere in the photo really brings out!

005

Title: Hey! Look at this, Jin-tan!

“Man… my Menma is just too cute for words!”, is what I was thinking while putting this photo together. 😛

Her eyes are so beautiful, and those bare feet have such lovely curves! I think I’m in love!

Sakuya

I loved this scene from the ending theme so much!
Those handmade cups of the Super Peace Busters members are amazing!  The flowers spread all over the floor, along with Menma holding the umbrella really recreate the ending scene so nicely!

008

Title: A Night at the Inn

I saw Nendoroid Menma on your blog, and she was so adorable that I just had to get her for myself. She has so many expressions, and is a lot of fun to play with!

I had the chance of going to a hot spring inn over the weekend, so I decided to take her with!

– Shokora

It looks like you had a great trip with Menma!
I love the picture of her holding the remote up! I hope you’ll take her along to more places in the future!

– Mikatan Prize –

012

Title : Farewell, Menma

I took this photo with the theme ‘Farewell, Menma’ in mind. She has Tenshi’s wings behind her. I guess the bunny ears were a bit overkill, though….

– Batorako

All I can say is… it’s absolutely beautiful!

The expression and pose are matched perfectly, and the flowers by her side along with the background really create a stunning scene. The soft blur also creates a really nice atmosphere for the picture! She’s such an angel!

010

Title : I’m Putting the Raisin on~!

Menma was helping me out with my cooking! ^^
The determined expression is way too cute!! 😛

– Annon

I love pictures like this that place her in everyday life!

The flour messed on her head and face is absolutely adorable!!! I also love the background used with some complete treats in the background, it really brings the picture together perfectly! I want Menma to make some for me as well….

011

Title : Treat Time! ♪

‘Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai’ was the first anime in a long time that really touched my heart. It really brought a new meaning to my life.

I think everyone thinks of a ‘Candy House’ or being surrounded by candy at some point in their childhood. I decided I wanted Menma to experience that seen she is stuck as a child!

– Amamo

Menma surrounded by colorful treats!

I had to pick this photo, as that smile looks so genuine in this photo, and I just couldn’t get her smiling face out of my mind after seeing it! The little pink ribbons on the side of her hair are also very cute! Girls look best surrounded with cute colors and candy! 😛

– Shuutarou Grand Prize –

007

Title : I’ll never forget the scene I saw that day

The Menma I saw that day had such a brilliant smile, I had to preserve it on this film. ^^

– Mikuroid

This photo is the Shuutarou Grand Prize winner!

The picture alone is beautiful, but the extra work of placing it on a film as if it was a special scene captured forever was very touching! She seems to be at the entrance of someone’s house… I wonder if it’s Jin-tans? I want to find out what’s behind that door!

Congratulations!!

009

Mikuroid is the winner of the Shuutarou Grand Prize, a Nendoroid Menma signed by Ai Kayano!

Congratulations once again, and thank you for sending in your lovely picture for us to enjoy as well!! I’ll be contacting you by e-mail, where you can let me know your address and name to receive your prize!

Once again, thanks to everyone who entered!!

Everyone here at Good Smile along with everyone in the factories in China couldn’t be happier when we get to see the joy that everyone gets from their Nendoroids! We’ll be releasing more and more friends to join the series, and also hope to have more contests like this in the future – I hope to see your entry when that time comes along!

Anyway, that’s all for today!
I hope to see you all again next week!! (・∀・)ノ゛

Comi-Po! Manga Contest

Comi-Po! is hosting a manga contest in commemoration of the release of Nendoroid Gumako: Cheerful ver!

All you have to do is make a manga that features a photo of your Gumako imported into a manga panel!

You can even make a manga that also features the 3D characters like Comipo-chan as well. There is even a special free version of Comi-po that you can download and use for the contest! The winning entry will receive a prize, so join in the fun!

http://www.comipo.com/gsc/index.html

In other words, you need to make manga using the software, ‘Comi-Po!’

Using the free version I gave it a go myself! Although I’m not very good with most software… 😛 And before all of you ask why I’m working in the web department… there is a fine line between being good and enjoying something. 😛

Anyway, I was looking for something to use as a base and found this!

001

This brings back memories!!

This was from when Good Smile was still based in an apartment in Matsudo – it was put up on a certain famous Akiba blog. In a serious column this ended up at the very end – it’s also the very first one!

Back then I had just joined Good Smile and worked with the design team’s boss in a tiny little room. I remember everything being really hectic back then… At the time (about 5 years ago) we also never expected to see the Good Smile Seijin becoming plushies and figures!

So today I’ll make a comic using a GSC Seijin figure!

         ____
       / \
      / ─ ─\
    / (●) (●) \
    | (__人__) | ________
     \ |r┬-| ,/ | | |
    ノ `ー’´ \ | | |
  /´ | | |
 | l | | |
 ヽ -一ー_~、⌒)^),-、 | |________|
  ヽ ____,ノγ⌒ヽ)ニニ- ̄ | | |

006

I have installed Comi-Po!

I think I’ll just use the first and second panels as they are, so I just import a file into Comi-Po using File -> Import Custom Image!

007

Just drop the imported image onto the canvas!

Ah! It’s so simple! I think even I could get the hang of this! I decided to import the image as is, but the program also allows you to create each panel separately using all sorts of backgrounds, things and characters!

The characters are particularly fun to play with, as you can place them at any angle you like (obviously only the default characters, however.)

Even if you can’t draw yourself, you can still easily make manga!

002

The GSC Seijin figure!

Now I’m going to use this image and import it into the manga! I just need to cut out the GSC Seijin from the background and save it as a .png.

005
You can easily change the color and size!

If you simply click the item a guide will pop up, and if you hold the Shift key you can change the size with just a quick mouse movement! Then you just need to right click and the item will appear on the panel, where you can meddle with all sorts of settings such as the hue of the image.

009

I also tried using the built-in materials!

Effects that are often used in manga are all lined up and easy to throw onto any panel! Just pick the one you want from the list on the left and drag it onto your manga!

And here is the final product!!

003

GSC Seijin Invasion!

       ___
 / ) ) )/ \ /\
 { ⊂) (●) (●) \ “The GSC Seijin are destined to invade

 | ヽ ー‐ ィ
 | / |
 | 〆ヽ/

It really makes it so simple to create your very own manga!
Although I’m not sure that my meager attempt really shows off what Comi-Po! can do. ^^; Let me give you a much more skillfully made example!

008

Gumako loves her udon!

She’s so cute! The manga really brings out her cuteness!! You can play with her expression parts to make all sorts of interesting manga scenes as well!

         ____
       / \
      / ─ ─\
    / (●) (●) \
    | (__人__) | ________
     \ |r┬-| ,/ | | |
    ノ `ー’´ \ | | |
  /´ | | |

 ヽ -一ー_~、⌒)^),-、 | |________|
  ヽ ____,ノγ⌒ヽ)ニニ- ̄ | | |

Just like this you can make your very own Nendoroid Gumako 4-panel manga! If you’re interested be sure to give your entry into the contest as well! (`・ω・´)ゞ

A Look at Professional Sculptor’s Tools with Takanon-sensei!

The other day the following message appeared on the letter corner:

Hello! I’m an everyday reader of your blog! I’m also always somehow losing money every time I read a review on your blog! 😛

I noticed some of the most recent figures are made using 3DCG which is incredible, but I was just wondering – are the prototype figures generally made by hand?

I’d love to see what kind of tools the pros use when sculpting figures!!

  –   Rurumenmen

I really want to know myself!!

So today I’m off to see Takanon – he has experience with both hand sculpting and 3D sculpting!

001

This here is Takanon-sensei!

Even though I asked first thing in the morning he was happy to prepare some tools for us! Takanon-sensei is a wonderful sensei that jumps at the opportunity to help out with blog entries!

Before we start our studies, note that sculptors can use a lot of different raw materials, but Takanon-sensei uses ‘polyester putty’.

To put it in a nutshell, polyester putty is the kind of putty you carve down into the shape you want.

Sensei! Teach us about some of your tools!

002

(1) Hardening Spray: Used to speed up the drying of glue.
(2) Instant Glue: Added to putty to make it harden faster.
(3) Sandpaper: Used for finishing touches and making smooth surfaces.
(4) Nippers: Used to cut things like Nendoroid joints and brass wires.
(5) Chisel Set: Used to carve out bits of putty.
(6) Design Knife: This is where the sculpting really begins!
(7) Craft Knife: Miscellaneous tasks.
(8) Pin Vice: Used to dig out holes. Size is changed based on diameter.
(9) Needle: Used along with the pin vice.

Sensei! What are the miscellaneous tasks of the craft knife?

    / ̄ ̄\
   / .ー ー \ ← Takanon-sensei
   | (●) (●) |
   | (__人__)| ”Eh… opening packages and stuff?”
   | `i i´ |
   |   . `⌒   }
   ヽ       }
    ヽ ノ
   / ヽ

So… it’s not used for the sculpting?

I kind of wanted to remove it from the photo seen it wasn’t involved… but Takanon insisted that it was depressing if the craft knife wasn’t included… so I left it in. 😛

Although when it comes to reproduction the craft knife plays a more important role allowing for a quick job. If you’re interested, take a look at this article:

Mikatan’s Summer Vacation Research Project:
Figure Reproduction –  Last Day (Japanese)

http://ameblo.jp/gsc-mikatan/entry-10617444280.html

003

(10) Putty Stand: The polyester putty is made on this stand.
(11) Polyester Putty: White: Main Putty; Yellow: Hardening Agent.
(12) Tooth Brush: An old toothbrush. Cleans up carvings.
(13) Clutch Pencil: Used to mark where joints and eyes will be placed.
(14) Tweezers: Reach places when they can’t be reached by hand.
(15) Ruler: Simply used to make sure the sizes match up.
(16) Vernier Scale: Used to measure curved parts

Sensei! Are these all the tools sculptors use?

     / ̄ ̄\
   / .ー ー \ ← Takanon-sensei
   | (●) (●) |
   | (__人__)| ”I think that pretty much covers it”
   | `i i´ |
   |   . `⌒   }
   ヽ       }
    ヽ ノ
   / ヽ

Understood!

Can you give us a little more detailed explanation now? ^^

004

(10) Putty Stand

This is actually called something completely different at Max Factory – it seems the name differs between companies! ^^

This stand is used to mix the white and yellow parts of the polyester putty together using something like a toothpick.

This creates the raw materials for sculpting!

Once mixed the putty will slowly harden, so it goes in a cycle of a process – mix, mold, harden and sculpt. Normally the white and yellow parts are mixed at a 5:1 ratio, but sometimes more of the hardening agent is added to make it harden faster!

005

(9) Needle!

As I wrote above this has a supporting role – it is used along with the pin vice. Takanon-sensei has made his own hand holds using putty to make it easier to hold! Sensei is also left handed… being left handed is kinda cool I think. 😛

006

Let’s take a look at how exactly it is used!

First the area you want the hole is marked by the clutch pencil (13), then the needle (9) is used to make a little dent on the putty!

007

A pin vice (8) is then used on the dented area to make a hole!

         ____
      /::::::─三三─\
    /:::::::: ( ○)三(○)\   “Eh?
    |::::::::::(__人__):::| Do you really need the needle…?”
     \:::::::   |r┬-|   /
    ノ::::::::  `ー’´  \

I’m sure there are some people who thought that, as I know I did! 😛

Apparently by just using the pin vice without a dent, it’s very easy to slip and not make a straight hole!

Bascially it’s just a way to make sure that it works out smoothly!

010

(3) Sandpaper!

There are apparently a lot of different types of sandpaper.

To divide them into three broad types, there would be paper, cloth and sponge types.

The paper type is used for straight lines, while the cloth and sponge types are much softer and are used for curved surfaces. Right here Takanon is making use of the paper type.

011

This here is the cloth type!

It’s often used on parts like heads that have a clearly curved surface. It actually seems like quite a lot of fun to work with, I kind of want to give it a try myself one day. (Though I doubt the world will be so kind as to let me do so).

By the way, in the first picture of the tools with numbers there was a little pink thing with a handle – this is also a type of file like the sandpaper, and is called a ‘Tiler’. The opposite side of the handle has a rough surface that can be replaced by double-sided tape when it wears away.

009

(16) Vernier Scale!

This is to calculate things like whether or not the thickness of the arms is the same on both sides. Measuring curved surfaces with a straight ruler is pretty much impossible, so that’s when the Vernier scale comes into play! You simply place the object to be measured between the two parts and you get the exact size.

Sensei also uses it in 3D work!

“I made it 0.4mm using 3D data, but how big did it come out?”

It is used to make sure about things like that – the image above is that 0.4mm! It’s so tiny! I don’t think I could ever become a sculptor… I’d never pay enough attention to the details!
012

      ____
    / \
/ ─ ─ \ “Excluding the putty itself, if you could use
/ (●) (●) \ only three tools, which would they be?”
 | (__人__) |
  \ |r┬-| ,/
  ノ `ー’´ \

A question I asked Sensei and received a true master’s reply!

“As long as I have (6) the design knife I would be fine! It’s the basis of everything!”

Of course the tools we took a look at today are useful, but when it comes down to it, as long as you have the design knife you can still do the sculpting!

Thank you for showing us behind the scenes of a master sculptor today! It was a lot of fun!  (`・ω・´)ゞ

Takanon-sensei is a very busy man, but even so he took some time off for this – thanks a lot! Also a big thanks to Rurumenmen who sent in the mail leading to this blog entry!! I hope it has given you at least an idea of what tools the sculptors here at GSC use!

-Notice-

The opening animation for Black Rock Shooter THE GAME is here!

Apparently the animation was done by ‘ufotable’, the group responsible for awesome anime like Kara no Kyoukai!!

It’s a really incredible watch!!

Kondou-san, the man in charge really put a lot of effort into this to get it to this incredible quality! The music and video give a different feeling to the anime, but it’s just as incredible as ever!! Take a look: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/1308097319?via=thumb_watch

I hope to see you all again tomorrow!! (・∀・)ノ゛

Tomorrow we’ll be taking a look at the WonFes Products!!

This is still the WonHobby 13 page, but it will change to WonHobby 14 on Friday!

huke’s 10th Anniversary Character Has Been Named!

huke drew us this wonderful illustration for Good Smile’s 10th Anniversary! ヾ(・∀・)ノ゛
004

Black Rock Gumako [Name Pending] is controlled by the GSC Mascot, her hat (Metal GSC Mascot #1) and her weapon (Metal GSC Mascot #2). From an outsiders view it’s as if she has four personalities. Her hair is not udon, but in fact squid-ink pasta, and if you touch it the black will come out on your fingers. She also smells a bit of squid if you get too close. She herself can’t stand things that smell bad, but while she is being controlled she is fine with it.

On the 6th May I wrote a blog asking for name suggestions, and…

I received 680 suggestions!

Thank you to everyone who was kind enough to send in a name! There were a load of great names – I looked though and enjoyed each and every one! I also sent them all through to huke!

The final selection was tough, and none of the GSC staff could agree on a name… so the eventual name was in fact a combination of a few entries!

Her name is going to be…

005

Name: Metal Powered Sumako

… is the final decision!

The general feeling was that the rather ‘unique’ name was somewhat appropriate for her rather ‘unique’ setting. Who knows where and how we will next see Metal Powered Gumako…?

I certainly can’t wait to find out!

006

We will be sending this as a gift to the following who helped us come to this name:

Gazu / Koma / Kuro Nyanko / Shipotan / teraneko / Furupi~ / Takenoko no Ko / Miyoshimiyori
You should all have a mail from me, so check your inbox!

It will take a few days to get the products along with huke’s signature, so please be patient!

-Notice-

Another illustration by GSC’s newest design member, Kawacchi!

Cheerful JAPAN! Part 1 No.2 – “Good Smile Seijin Plushie (Giant)”!

One day, I was walking up the stairs when…

001

A Giant Good Smile Seijin Plushie appeared!
A total of 5 samples were made of this huggable giant!

As I mentioned yesterday, this is another product that will be sold as part of the Cheerful JAPAN! Charity project!

010
Cheerful JAPAN!

http://www.cheerfuljapan.com/

The damage that has occurred during the March 11 quake in the Touhoku region is astounding, and in order to get over the destruction caused there is a lot that needs to be done, and lots of support that needs to be given. Good Smile Company has formed a support group named ‘Cheerful Japan’ which will strive to support the relief efforts for as long as possible. For at least 1 year we be releasing charity products among other efforts to raise donation money for the cause. To everyone who supports the Cheerful Japan movement – thank you, and know that your money is going where it is needed!
To support the relief efforts up North, we will be announcing a charity product every month on the 11th, starting with this month and continuing for a year!

The second product to be joining the Cheerful JAPAN! Project is this giant plushie!

006

You can see just how big it is here!

It really is HUGE!

But I’m sure and dakimakura lovers like myself will not be stopped by a size like this – it’s actually the ideal size for hugging asleep at night!

004

It’s also made of a super fluffy material!
It’s so soft and gentle to the touch!

The fabric is much finer than most fabrics and the quality of the fluffy hair is amazing! You just have to feel it for yourself!

003

He can even be used to attack others!

His tentacles can be waved around all over the place!
When attacking, be sure to aim away from the head and hit softly! ^^;

005

Have a nap with him!
Diving your head into the soft fluffy GSC-Seijin will drop you into sleep in a second, plus is bound to give you good dreams for the night! You can even use him as a pillow!

008

He is not very good at doing work for you!

However, he is very good at making your coworkers look very surprised as they walk past your desk! It’s amazing how much this plushie can accomplish!

009

You can even take him for walks!

Unfortunately he does have a weakness… he can’t stand on his own, so he needs something to lean his back on.
010

Give a Name to huke’s GSC 10th Anniversary Character!

Golden Week is coming to and end!

I’m sure a lot of you are still on holiday today? I wish I were you! 😛
Enjoy whatever break you have left everyone! I hope the weather is nice for you!

Onto today’s topic!

007

At GSC’s 10th Anniversary Party there was an illustration drawn by huke for us!  ヾ(・∀・)ノ゛

She is so cute! It was made into a display panel and displayed right near the entrance for everyone to enjoy!

A comment from huke:
Happy 10th Anniversary!
As an artist I’d be happier to make you an illustration over a cake to celebrate!
It’s been about 3 years since I started working with you guys now… I had to do something for your 10th!

003

So cute!! But cool at the same time!!!

The wavy shirt has a nice sexy appeal to it,  and the GSC Mascot sticking out the back of her pants is incredible! I want one! 😛

So we need to give her a name!

Anyone who orders from the hamburger menu will receive a clear file featuring illustrations from Bakuman as well as be entered into a raffle with a chance to win even more special goods – and this well be at any Dennys store in Japan!

There will be a total of four files to collect, each featuring a different one of the popular characters from the series – be sure to check the Dennys website for more info on what hamburgers are included for the deal!

http://www.dennys.jp/dny/event-campaign/campaign_3.html

Lookie!! Σ(゚∀゚*)

006

Inside the raffles there is a chance to win Nendoroid Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi !

Wonderful!! The Nendoroid’s are a part of the collaboration!

You will be entered each time you spend over 500JPY!

With just one coin you can stand a chance! Well, there isn’t anything for just 500JPY that will get you the file as well, so the best idea is to grab one of the things off the hamburger menu, get the free clear file and be entered into the competition all at once! (By the way – the clear files are until stock lasts, so don’t wait too long!)

The raffle presents will be available in two parts:

Part 1 will be from 2011/04/26 until 05/23
Part 2 will be from 2011/05/24 until 06/13

The Nendoroids will be available only in the first part, so if you want them be sure to go in that time. The 2nd part might also have something for us to announce… but it’s not yet decided! You’ll be able to find out on the Denny’s Official Website, or possibly at a later stage on the blog!

Anyway, that’s all for today!
I hope to see you all again next week! (・∀・)ノ゛
It think it’s about time I played with some figures again!!

(C)huke/B★RS Project

Now to Play with a threeA Figure!

Yesterday I explained a little about threeA…

Today I’ll be playing with a threeA model!

To be more specific, I’ll be reviewing this figure here:

ARMSTRONG

(wiki Extract)
Armstrong is the smartest bot from Rothchild, it has independent goal based decision making routines, which is a first for any bot. just tell it what is needed and he will work out the rest.” M.O.D. were reportedly able to steal some Armstrongs and modify them for their own purposes.Armstrongs come in 2 “G” variations: 0G and 1G. The “G” designation refers to gravity, with 0G representing Luna gravity, and 1G representing Earth gravity. All WWR Armstrongs are made in the 0G variant with the exception of one announced 1G.

Last week these four Armstrongs were on the GSC site!

012

Left: ARMSTRONG Floyd 0G

Right: ARMSTRONG Monet 0G

013

Left: ARMSTRONG Mod 7 1G

Right: ARMSTRONG Gerry 1G

These are all the same Armstrong model, but as you can see the coloring differs between the types.
The names like ‘Floyd’ and ‘Gerry’ are not yet given any real meaning – they might a specific ability they have or the team they belong to… fans of the series enjoy that kind of undetermined secrets in the setting as well. It gives the world a spirit that fans can all talk together about.

Right, so let me start taking a look at them!

     / ̄ ̄\
   / . _ノ ヽ、\ ← Enon
   | o゚⌒ ⌒゚o |
   | (__人__) | ”Sorry… we don’t actually have one yet…”

   ヽ       }
    ヽ ノ
   / ヽWh-What?! ((((;゚Д゚))))

001

So instead I’ve just stolen a different Armstrong from Enon’s desk. 😛

This Armstrong is from the team I introduced yesterday…
The EMGY-TRG ( Emergency-Tactical Response Group)!

The paint work, weapons and backpack will be different on the actual figure, but today I just want to introduce the robot itself!

003

This is how it looks from the back!

Apparently the giant exhausts on the backpack are used for jumps and hovering! The figure itself unfortunately won’t have those capablities, but the exhausts are on an axis so they can be posed in different directions!

003

What incredible paint work…!

The painting on the WWR figures really is top notch!

It really looks like rusted metal! Fantastic!

     / ̄ ̄\
   / .ー ー \ ← Enon
   | (●) (●) |
   | (__人__) | ”This is actually made from soft vinyl”

   |   . `⌒   }
   ヽ       }
    ヽ ノ
   / ヽ Really?! Soft vinyl?!

Nendoroids are made from PVC and ABS, but the WWR series is made from soft vinyl and ABS.

004

They are also very posable!

Just looking at the arm – the shoulder, upper arm, elbow and wrist are all posable!

It’s also incredibly easy to strike a pose!
They are designed very sturdily so you can have a load of fun trying to get them into different poses without worrying about it falling apart!

005

Even the fingers are posable!

It’s incredible! They really can be posed in almost any way a human hand could be posed!! You can even make a peace sign! xD

I apologize to all fans of the series for the completely irrelevant posing… but I’m just trying to get my point across here! They really are fun and easy to put into all kinds of poses!

006

The bag on it’s hip is really made from real cloth!

The paint work on it is also stunning… it really looks worn and dirty… plus you can even open it up!

007

I feel a little sorry for all the poses I’m putting it through, so this time…

A more appropriate pose holding a gun!

Seen the arms move around so easily you can make it hold the gun with absolutely no troubles. Even someone like me can get him into a relatively ‘cool’ pose, and I’m normally terrible with anything besides cute poses. 😛

009

The sculpting of the gun is stunning!!

Look at all the tiny details!!

The Armstrong itself is of course super detailed but the gun alone could be sold as another product! Also, although it’s not heavy at all it actually feels just like a real metal gun!

010

You can even remove the magazine!

         ____
      /::::::─三三─\

    |::::::::::::(__人__):::|
     \:::::::::   |r┬-|   /
ノ:::::::::::: `ー’´ \All these little details make more and more incredible!
Even though I’ve only been playing with it for a few minutes it’s so fun finding all the tiny details that are a part of it. It’s a really incredible piece of art!

008

Collect other members from the team!

Armstrong is giving Square-chan a gift!
Displaying different robots from the same team creates an awesome effect. As I said yesterday, I really want to get my hands on the white ‘Medic’ mean… I’ll get them yet!

011

Lunar Camo Armstrong 0G!

There are some of the GSC’s staff only personal collections. Whilst the yellow EMGY-TRG team are part of Earth’s robots, these ones here are from Mars!

In other words, they are enemies!! (((゚Д゚)))

The setting of WWR really has a deep storyline to it!! The more I find out the more I want to find out! It’s quite scary! 😛

I’m sure we have a couple of people wondering about that… but the truth is…

I’m really not too sure myself!
So today, we’re going to learn a little bit about them!

First up, what exactly is ‘threeA’?
If we take a look at the advert displayed at the last WonFes…

What is ‘threeA?

threeA is a company founded by world renown artist Ashley Wood and Kim Fung Wong. The company takes Ashley Wood’s creations and brings them to life by designing, developing and manufacturing everything from the actual model, the packaging, logo, setting and color scheme. Kim is in charge of the production at the company, which lets him be surrounded by the artistic wonders as much as he wants.

008

Products released by the company are not limited to models however – they release models, printed goods and even apparel. The quality of their products it top notch – featuring illustrations done by Ashley Wood himself, a variety of models that create a wondrous setting and are sculpted down to the finest of details – creating very realistic robots that are painted to have a unique metallic feeling to them. They are truly models that even non-figure lovers are sure to admire. There are a number of series featuring all kinds of robots that all come with a wonderful nostalgic feeling behind them, and have a story to be told about them.

It’s something you need to experience for yourself to truly understand the wonders of threeA.

So simply put, the robots and characters designed by Ashley are made into a variety of figures!

By the way, Ashley has been involved in big names like the Metal Gear Solid game series!

WWR (World War Robot)

WWR is a graphic novel series illustrated by Ashley Wood, and written by Ashley Wood and TP Louise, which tells the story of a fictitious war called the ‘Great War’ that took place between 1980 and 1990.

– Story (wiki extract)
The Great War takes place between multiple different factions; the most obvious are the Martians, humans who have left Earth and settled on Mars seeking refuge, and the Terrans those who remain on Earth and seek to subdue the Martians to their fanatic religious ideals with violent means. Both sides utilize warbots in their ongoing conflict. Most of these are manufactured by Darwin Rothchild, but there has also been mention of Hobson and Dolch, a competitor of Rothchild (Corporation). Further factions within the war include N.O.M. and M.O.D.. Due to the storytelling format that Ashley Wood and TP Louise have closen, many plot details are left open to the imagination of fans as the story and universe is explored in greater depth with each book release.

So to summarize…
They are robots designed for combat!

So that explains why they all look so strong! The robots also each have their own teams!

003

These yellow ones are part of the…

‘EMGY-TRG Emergency-Tactical Response Group’

Each of the robots are separated into teams like this and each team has their own roles to play. The yellow team focuses on dealing with emergencies such as civil disasters! They were also the team that was responsible for the Peaceday Massacre. (Peaceday are a pink team!)

Each robot type has their own name, but my favorite has to be this one!

Square-chan!

(wiki Extract)
The Square, smallest of all robots designed by Rothchild and Co. Essentially an autonomous intelligence (allied troop position, enemy position, telemetry) gathering machine, the Square plays a pivotal part in all battlefields on both sides that Rothchild had to devise special empathy features on top of heavy armor to help lengthen their up-time in the field. Known as the “carnival effect”,

What a devious little robot!!

Really! Its just so adorable!
With such a cute little face how could you not trust it!? Devious indeed!

I had heard of WWR quite a while ago but I had never really looked into it very much… but ever since I heard about the setting and saw Square-chan I’ve fallen in love… unfortunately Square-chan is the ONLY robot I know, so I think I’m going to have to study up on a few more of the robots names… 😛

Also, today’s post really is just on my understanding of the WWR world!
I might have got some information wrong… and the WWR fans are going to come and get me… if that’s the case, I’m sorry! ^^;

By the way!

I borrowed this photo from BRS’s original creator, huke!
These little ones are all his own figures!

Those of you who follow them on twitter will probably already know, but huke and Asai-san both apparently have very impressive collections of WWR modesl! As for me… I’m really liking the white ‘Medic’ team… the white Square-chan is just so adorable… he’s like a little first-aid kit!! 😛

Right, so now we have at least got an idea about the WWR world!
Tomorrow I’m going to take a look at this ARMSTRONG model!

R-Right! This’ll be my first time reviewing a figure like this, but I’ll do my best!
I wonder what kind of things this robot does…?

Anyway, that’s all for today!
I hope to see you all again tomorrow!  (・∀・)ノ゛
