Nendoroid Haru-chan

Sping! The season of cherry blossoms!

001

Today we’ll be taking a look at a figure who knows Spring better than anyone!
…and she will be going on sale very soon!

003

Being released by Digiturbo, it’s…

Nendoroid Haru-chan!

A Nendoroid of the ‘goddess of Spring’ that helps out when telling the weather on NHK TV’s ‘Newswatch 9′, as well as a character in NHK Online’s 4-panel web comic, “Haru-chan’s Weather Trivia’!

Simply put – she is a moe personification of Spring!

002

This is how the packaging looks!

She comes with some interesting looking expressions as well as a ton of optional parts to play with! A carp streamer the same size as Haru-chan herself is even included… and some extra lower body parts that allow her to sit down… there is a load of fun to be had with this Nendoroid! 😀

004

This is how she looks from the back!

Her blouse is fluttering in the wind… the perfect example of Spring! She makes use of one of the arm-type stands which stand her up very nice and securely!

By the way… this is the first publicly displayed image of the back of the carp streamer. 😛

005

Let’s move onto the optional parts!

Bent right arm, bent legs and a cherry blossom wand!

An ideal pose for the Spring season!

I love it when I have a sample figure rather than the master figure… I can pose it without worrying so much! It’s so much more fun!

006

An adorable worried face!

Spring is well known for it’s thunderstorms in Japan, and this is the same expression that Haru-chan would have when reporting a Spring thunderstorm! Isn’t she just adorable!?

She also comes with ruffled hair and a rain wand!
During the thunderstorms the wind blows really hard and causes your hair to end up like this… the expression really suits the hair!

008

The carp streamer, and her… pet?

This is the little white kitty wanders around in Haru-chan’s room! Even his little tail is posable! Apparently the official name in of the pet actually includes the question mark… so it’s name is in fact ‘Pet?’.

You can also see she has ‘sitting parts’ and a ‘newspaper sword’!
These parts let you pose Haru-chan like this, riding the carp steamer valiantly!

The carp steamer actually caused quite a lot of trouble while being made… I think there was even some crying involved with the production team. Apparently each of the scales needed to be painted on one-by-one… I hope you survived, factory workers!

007

She also has a masked face!

This of course makes it look like poor Haru-chan has caught a cold…
Plus it looks hilarious on other characters!

It’s almost as good as the face from the Steins;Gate Nendoroid… I think it would definitely fit into my top 5 Nendoroid expressions of all time!! 😛
009
There are so many way to enjoy all her extra parts…

Aaah, he’s beautiful…

It suits him too well!! xD

Nendoroid Date Masamune has been on sale since 04/07!

010

KAITO has caught a cold….!

By the way, he is also making use of Nendoroid Kurisu Makise: White Coat ver.‘s upper body part. This is actually Seki-sama’s KAITO Nendoroid… I stole it from her desk. 😛

The expression really suits pretty much any other Nendoroid, so be sure to try it out on some of your favorites!

011

Nendoroid Number 146!

001
Thus the figure carry case was created!

Take-chan really outdid himself this time! It really has that nice home-made feeling to it. 😛

The figure I’m reviewing today takes up a lot of space, so finding something that would hold it safely was really difficult. At least now Miyan can head to the photo shoot safely!
002
And that figure is this one!

Strength  -animation version- !

Strength featured briefly in the Black Rock Shooter anime, watching over Black Rock Shooter during one of her battle scenes.
003

Let’s take a closer look!

She is the same scale as all the previous BRS figures – 1/8th scale. Strength herself is quite petite and cute, but her huge arms and stand really give her a volume to boast about!
005

This is how she looks from the back!

Looking at it from this angle makes it look as if she is floating in mid air…!  You might be a little bit worried about the stability of the figure, but don’t be – it’s in fact very securely attached by the ogre arms and the blocks on the stand.

006

Her giant robotic arms – Ogre Arms!

The paint work looks absolutely stunning!! The Nendoroid Orge Arms looked great, but the 1/8th scale version are on a completely different level!!
009

The back of the Orge Arm!

The best thing about figures – you can look at your favorite characters from any angle you want to!

Another cool thing about the arms is that you can see exactly how they would move from their design… I can just picture them moving now!!
004

A close up on her face!

She has a much more loli face when compared to the other BRS girls… it’s very cute!! The hood covering up her mouth also adds a nice mysterious feeling!

008

Her lovely long tail in all it’s glory!

Strength-chan has a long bone-like tail quite similar to Dead Master’s horns. The detail on the tail is also incredible to look at!

I also really like the bare skin from her back over to her arms…
007

Her beautiful armpits! Aren’t they stunning!?
I still remember Dead Master’s bare back very fondly… but…

This no-sleeve look really is something as well!

Then there is this shot… which has given Strength-chan quite the reputation in the GSC offices!

010
While I was taking photos, the sculptor of the original BRS figure series, Akeji, came by to give a comment…

     / ̄ ̄\
   / .ー ー \ ← Akeji

    ヽ ノ

Panties…?? Panties!? PANTIES!!

Ooooh! He’s right!!

011
And now for a sudden change of topic…

Black Rock Shooter: Character Charm Collection 03 – King Saw will be going on sale soon!
I got a sample, so I’ll play around with it for a bit… 😛
013
figma Black Gold Saw can even hold it!
It’s metal so it really shines… it makes her look very classy!

The charms are actually fairly heavy for figmas to hold, but Golden Saw’s hands are fairly large so she can hold it quite nicely. ^^
It also comes with a chain, so you can of course use it as an accessory as well!
012

Strength and Golden Black Saw!

It obviously looks good to display 1/8th scale figures together with each other… but differing scales can also look quite nice together!

Is it just me, or does the picture above have a distinct yuri feeling about it?

Nendoroid Racing Miku 2011 ver.

This is GSR’s Yama-chan!

画001

It’s quite hard to start a conversation with him at first, but once you get to know him he is a very nice guy! He has helped me out a lot at the register during events before! Thank you, Yama-chan!

Plus he has brought me a new figure to play with!
What a loveable soul…! I’ll have to get him something next time!

画002
Today we’ll be taking a look at….
Nendoroid Racing Miku 2011 ver. !

Racing Miku is a character based off the original Miku that was created specially for the GT Project – and now she is joining the Nendoroid world again with a new design dubbed the ‘2011 ver’!

000
It’s the third design of Racing Miku so far!
This version was illustrated by YuiichiMurakami!

       ___
     / ⌒ ⌒\
    / (○) (○) \ “That transparent effect…
  / ///(__人__)// \ It makes Miku look so grown-up…!!!”
  | `Y⌒y’´ |
   \ ゛ー ′ /
    / ー‐ ィ

画003

This is how she looks from the back!

The way that her design keeps changing is a lot of fun! I think the highlight of this version is the beautiful gradient in the hair…

We’ve used clear plastic to recreate the effect on the Nendoroid!

Her hair, skirt and hair accessories all have a transparent effect to them just like in the original illustration. Even the patterns on her skirt have been carefully painted in!

画004
Right, let’s start taking a look at the optional parts!
A closed parasol and a bent left arm!

Racing Miku is of course a race queen – she has to have a parasol!! Wouldn’t you love to see Miku like this on the track?

画005
An open parasol, and an outstretched left arm!

Racing Miku is a race queen! She has to able to open her parasol!! Plus it looks great – even the inside of the parasol is incredibly detailed!

She obviously also comes with the arms and hands to hold the parasol!

画006

The parasol has a nice pattern on the top!

It features a silhouette of Racing Miku along with the logo! I really think this is going to be one Nendoroid to be remembered!

画007

She also comes with an embarrassed face!

         ____

I didn’t know she had that kind of side to her…!

Hahahaha!! It’s so adorable!!

画008 She carries on with her work no matter how embarrassed she is…!
(At least, that’s the setting I’ve created for her :P)

At the moment it’s still a master figure so I’m not sure how well the expressions will be able to swap with other Nendos… but I hope they can!

画009

Nendorocar!

But this isn’t the car that comes with her exactly… the car that comes included will be a completely plain white car – along with a number of decals for you to design the car however you like!

You can find a tutorial on sticking decals over that the blog written by Yama-chan, ‘GSR Report’… it’s only available in Japanese, though…

GSR Report:

画010

Riding in the Car! Vroom!! Σ(゚∀゚*)

You can even put Racing Miku inside the car for a whole new effect! If you put her twin tails out behind her it even looks like the car is speeding ahead!
The car does actually have moving wheels, by the way!

1/8th Scale Yuri

Spring! The season of cherry blossoms!

001

It’s finally started to warm up a bit here in Matsudo now! I actually got hit by a cold and fell behind on work a little…

By the way, isn’t the background above gorgeous? It was made by Tarou Shuu, a newbie here in the production team! It’s available at the Good Smile Cafe’s photo booth, so go make use of it if you have the time!

002

Anyway… today we’ll be taking a look at…
1/8th Scale Yuri!

She is the leader of the SSS group that is trying to rebel against god in the anime ‘Angel Beats’!

As I previously introduced on the blog back on the 7th of December

フィギュアメーカー・グッドスマイルカンパニー勤務 『ミカタンブログ -松戸駅から10マス進む-』

With the help of the 3D data provided by Sanjiken,
Yurippe is sculpted using 3DCG!

The picture above isn’t a photo – it’s the 3D data she is sculpted from! The world really is evolving!

However, the final touches and coloring are all done by Good Smile’s sculptors. Getting them to look over the final product is a sure way to check it keeps up to GSC standards!

003

This is how she looks from the back!

Her wavering hair and frilly skirt give the figure a nice natural feeling…
Plus those thighs are beautiful!!!  (*゚∀゚)=3

007

A cute face with an unwavering smile!

The smile suits Yuri so perfectly – you can really feel her determination coming through it!

006

Her adorable outfit is also very detailed!

The unique design and scarf around the breast area are definitely some of the highlights! You can also see the SSS crest on her left sleeve – with such fine detail you can even make out the writing on it!

009

Service Shot!

She’s definitely cute from the front… but somehow I really like the way she looks from behind too! I think it might be those delicious thighs. ^^;

008

A clear stand with the Angel Beats! logo!

Some of you might think it’s a little bit too plain, but there is in fact an upside to the stand not being that spectacular…

Yurippe will be sold for just ¥5,800!
Lots of shops will probably have discounts and specials as well, so you might even get her for cheaper!

As a side not though, I don’t think clear stands like this are bad at all. Obviously I love the details on stands like those in the Bakemonogatari series, but these classic stands have a special charm to them as well… at least in my opinion.

– Notice –

With April here, it’s finally starting to warm up a bit here in Japan. In previous years I’ve always posted some letters related to the arrival of Spring, and this year I want to stick to that tradition!

Kuroyagi-san’s Letter Corner! Cherry Blossom Ver!
I’ve already received some mail relating to the Spring season, so here they are!

I was headed out shopping when I opened up my window and noticed there was some snow! I headed out to the shops with Yui and my camera and found some cherry blossoms trying their hardest to bloom through the snow… the blossoms might have been a little chilly, but they were still just as beautiful as ever! (*´ー`*)

– ☆Saorin

003

Attached to this message you’ll find a little picture I took on my cellphone of some cherry blossoms. I had a Nendo Petite with me as well as my cellphone camera and they were just calling out for me to take a photo… (`・ω・´)
I don’t think the blossoms are blooming all over the country just yet, and it might be a little harder than normal this year due to the earthquake… but I still hope you’ll do the Spring photos again this year!
– Luca

004

There are some places that are holding off with going to see the cherry blossoms in light of recent events, but personally I think cherry blossoms are really important at a time like this. They are always there blooming for us no matter what the circumstances are!

If you can find the time on a day with good weather, consider taking your favorite Nendoroid down for a visit to see the blossoms and take some pictures! I’d love to have some more Nendoroid Cherry Blossom pictures to show!

Dead Master -animation version-

A new box of figure samples has arrived!

001

I was just about to go check what was happening with the production team too… what good timing!

Pass one over here please!!

002

Today I’ll be taking a look at…

Dead Master  -animation version- !

She is the character who faced Black Rock Shooter in combat in the anime version of Black Rock Shooter!

The previously released ‘-original version- had a ‘calm’ feeling to it, while this -animation version- focuses on a more dynamic pose!

003

This is how she looks from the back!

Even from the back this version of Deadmaster looks like she is ready to strike! I really expect her to jump up at any second…!!

004

That gaze just draws you in!

It’s a very different feeling to the eyes that were on the original version… The long twirls in her hair have also been beautifully sculpted!

005

Her open back is just as sexy as always!

The nape of her neck also needs a special mention!! The long slender neck with her beautiful white skin contrasts with her black outfit wonderfully!

007

The much needed low-angle shot!

Once again the contrast between her black outfit and snow white skin is stunning…  the shiny effect on her high heels also looks really nice.

008

The pose in mid-spin looks great!

You can make out her whole body line through her twisting clothes… it adds some nice spice to the figure! It also makes me want to try and picture whats beneath those clothes…

006

The stand is made up of skulls!

The BRS figure series is well known for it’s stands that help to recreate the atmosphere of the BRS world. This one brings back Deadmaster’s famous skulls as part of her stand… and as per usual the detail is absolutely incredible for a stand.

1/8th Scale Tsubasa Hanekawa

Time to find out who guessed correctly…!

001

I’m sure many of you knew exactly who it was… she was even displayed during WonFes! (`・ω・´)ゞ

002

The 4th figure in the 1/8th scale Bakemonogatari series: 、

Tsubasa Hanekawa!

The previous figures from the series include Hitagi Senjougahara, Nadeko Sengoku and Suruga Kanbaru. Now the ‘girl enchanted by the cat’, Tsubasa Hanekawa is set to join them!

First you need to take a look at this picture…
021

The pose is again based on a DVD jacket image!

This is the front jacket of the 4th volume of the DVD/BD series, ‘Tsubasa Cat’. As always, you can see how incredibly close the figure is to the original illustration! That downward gaze is beautiful!

005

Let’s take a look from another side!

Keeping with the previous figures in the series, all the small extra parts and the stand are all beautifully detailed.

The school desk and chair, plus her shoe, show this off nicely!

The desk and chair are in fact made from 3D data, so they are disturbingly similar to a real table and chair! We’ll take a closer look at them at a later stage!

004

Now from another angle!

You can finally see the other sides of the illustration that were never visible before… such is the power of figures!! This picture was taken at a slightly higher angle than the illustration was at.

I have to say that the way she is sitting on the table on her knees creates a really sexy pose!!

013

Turn her a little bit clockwise!

These photos really give Tsubasa a nice mature feeling. It’s amazing how much she changes with just a little change in the angle of the picture!
008

She really is beautiful!

Her big shiny eyes look amazing on the figure, and the round glasses only add to her charm!

018
Alright, now it’s time onto some more risque photos!

First up… her finger tips!

Figures from anime often follow the ‘no wrinkle’ method to create a more anime-style look, but Tsubasa’s hands have a nice realistic touch to them. I also love the way her pinky is slightly apart from the other fingers!

009

Those are… big…!

       ___

   / _ノ ヽ、_ \ ”Ooh, those are real treasures!”
  / o゚⌒ ⌒゚o \
| (__人__) |
  \ ` ⌒´ /
  ノ \

And completely unrelated, but the wrinkles in her clothes are also really impressive!

007

My personal favorite shot!

Everything just adds up to such a sexy pose… from the missing right shoe to the slightly opened up legs… plus the hand holding her skirt down….

It’s what you’d see if she was in front of you on the stairs or escalator! (*゚∀゚)=3

If you try hard enough you might even get to see a little bit more!! 😛

012

The cellphone she used in the series!

Of course it even comes with the kitty strap attached. Just look at the detail!

014

Cat ear parts are also included!

They simply replace her normal fringe part – so you can pick whichever version you prefer! The cats on the desk are the cats included with figma Aya Kagura: School Uniform version. You can add them in for an even cuter effect!!

019

Tsubasa-nee with no glasses!

Ooh… she looks even more mature now! You can also remove the glasses on the normal hair – so the choice is really entirely up to you.

015

Which means you can have cat ears with glasses too!!

  \ `ー’´ /
  ノ \

016

This figure series really does put a lot of work into the extra and stand!

This time the stand is a table and desk…

Just look at the quality!

It really looks like it’s made out of wood! There is no way this was hand painted!

But then… how was it painted…?
017

It’s printed on with a printer!

This new printer can print directly onto figures!
Unfortunately if the area is too thick or has too many curves it won’t work nicely… but for things like the chair above, it’s perfect!

       / ̄ ̄ ̄\
     / ─ ─ \ ”Isn’t this going to make production hard…?”

Ever since I saw them working on Senjougahara at the factory in China… I always wonder about these things… this Bakemonogatari figure series must be driving the production team insane…! ^^;

DIY Figure Repairs Part 3: Scuffed Paint

Hi everyone.

This is the third in a series of articles on repairing figures.

The previous two blogs I did on the topic featured repairing joints, and reinforcing joints using glue – you can find them over here:

DIY Figure Repairs Part 1: Broken Joints
DIY Figure Repairs Part 2: Reinforcing Joints

Today I’m going to be covering dealing with scuffed paint… something that probably happened to loads of figures in the recent earthquake.
As a figure lover, I just had to write a blog on how to try and fix this.
Painting figures is even difficult for professionals, so I asked Oda-P to explain this one in the easiest way he possibly could… you’ll need a couple of tools and if something goes wrong don’t blame us! But even so, if you’re willing to take the challenge, then please do!

– Dealing with Scuffed Paint –

001

Often when figures fall down they end up like this.
There are a lot of little scratches in the circle, as well as one big one. What we want to do is try and hide these scratches as much as possible!

002

These are the tools for today.
At the top we have masking tape, enamel solvent and a top coat to remove paint shine. At the bottom we gave various enamel paints, a dish and a brush.

There may be some things you’ve never seen of before…. but you should be able to get them all at any model shop! 3000 yen would cover everything quite easily.

003

Enamel Paints!

Using these 8 colors you should be able to mix almost any color.
Well, I suppose you really only need the base colors of yellow, red and blue… but this set will make it easier to get the colors you need.

021

Now for a quick explanation about paints.
Paint comes in a variety of types, such as lacquer, acrylic and enamel – each of them has a different strength.

Lacquer paint is the strongest, next is acrylic and then comes enamel – the weakest. You can paint acrylic or enamel paint over lacquer paint, but you can’t paint acrylic or lacquer paint on top of enamel – it will melt from the strength of the other paints.

The master figures made here typically use lacquer paint for the hair and body and enamel paint for smaller things like eyes. However the actual products in stores use a special PVC-only paint.

This PVC paint is considerably strong, but there is a reason we are using enamel paint…
… will be explained right here.

004

I’ve put some black enamel paint on the hair!
Now if you put some enamel solvent on here and then gently wipe it off…
005

It comes off easily!
Almost all final products use this PVC paint, so painting over with the weakest enamel paint will hardly have any effect.

This means you can restart if you make a mistake!
What I’m about to explain is very prone to errors – chances are you won’t get the color right first time – so it’s always good to be able to retry. Just be careful and make sure that the figure isn’t initially painted with enamel paint, or you’ll end up with a mess. (you can test by putting some enamel solvent somewhere that can’t be seen.)
006

On to the mixing of colors!
I’m going to be mixing blue, green and white to try and make this hair color.  Be sure not to get pain on your clothes or the desk!

007

Place some of each paint on a dish.
The area that needs fixing is small, so I’m not using a lot of paint. It’s best to add little dashes of paint and then mix to try and get the right color.

008

Mix them slowly one by one on the dish.
Without mixing them on the table or on your clothes, if at all possible.

009

That color looks pretty close!
By the way, the longer paint stands the thicker it becomes, you can counter this by adding a little bit of enamel solvent and mixing it in.

010

Time for a test paint.
It seems like my color is still a little bit too dark. So once again I use some enamel solvent and wipe it off for a retry.

011

Play around with the paints a little more.
Mix in some more white in order to make the color slightly lighter.

012

As a side note – sculptors use a very similar process themselves when trying to get the original colors right.
But they are incredibly quick about it… it truly is a work of a professional…

013

Color mixing complete!
If you compare it to the original image you’ll see it has covered up the scratches quite nicely. The problem is the paint kind of shines where you painted on.
014
This is when you apply the top coat.
Please note the following though:

■  Be careful!
■  Use something like a cardboard box to stop it the spray from getting all over.
■  Try to constantly keep moving the spray to not put too much in one place.
■  Holding the part still with your hands or a clothes peg can help a lot.

Also note that once you’ve put this top coat on, you can’t remove the enamel anymore!

Make sure you’re happy with your work before you reach this step!
015

Complete!

You almost can’t even tell that there was once some horrible scratches on it… it may take awhile to do, but it’s worth the effort!

017

Finally, an introduction to the masking tape method!
Whilst my example didn’t need this, there are sometimes parts on figures that keep the shiny look – and if you put a top coat over it you’ll end up losing the shiny effect.

018

Spread out some masking tape and cut it out in various shapes.
If you use a craft knife be careful not to cut anything important… like your hands!

019

Place the pieces of tape over any parts that need the shine!

A pin set works great for applying the tape, but if you don’t have, the point of a pen will work fine too.
020

The tape is in place!
There is also tape on the two yellow squares…. it’s just hard to see. Now you can spray a top coat over the top without destroying the shine!
016

Extra!

I decided to try mixing colors myself!
Each time I tried I got closer and closer to the original color… but it is quite hard to get it perfect – although it’s a load of fun at the same time! It’s like you’re making the figure yourself! ^^;

    ____
   / \
  / ─ ─ \

| (__人__)   |
/ ∩ノ ⊃ /
( \ / _ノ | |

Simply put, as long as the color matches, then yes.
The problem is that a lot of hair and clothes have odd colors or gradients that will be hard to match up with those. As a side note, don’t use manicure paints as they are made using lacquer paint and will often melt off the base painting.

This was the very last in my series of DIY figure repairs. I hope you can find the time to try them out and fix up any figures hurt in the earthquake!

That’s all for today!
I hope to see you all again tomorrow! (・∀・)ノ゛
