Saber of “Red” [Mordred]!


“Clarent Blood Arthur!!”

From the light novel with an anime adaption on the way, ‘Fate/Apocrypha’, comes a 1/8th scale figure of Saber of “Red” [Mordred] wearing her iconic armor. The sharp-looking design of her armor as well as the disassembled and rebuilt form of her helm “Secret of Pedigree” attached to the back of the armor have been faithfully represented on the figure.

She is posed standing on the remains of a fallen golem with the Noble Phantasm “Clarent” in hand – the blade glowing with a brilliant light. The rebellious knight has been carefully crafted to capture all of her charm in figure form! Be sure to add her to your collection!

The figure’s planner was none other than Phat! Company’s Uchitaro (@uchitaro) and he has joined me on the blog today to speak his thoughts on the figure! You can really feel his love for the character as well as the Fate universe with the amount of detail that has gone into this figure!!

So let’s get right to it! I think anyone will agree that the first thing anyone will notice on the figure is the texture and detail of the armor she is wearing!

The dynamic pose together with her facial expression all create an epic scene from the battlefield!

One thing to note is that the armor is not all simply colored the same, but instead carefully considers where there are shadows and different textures and alters the use of paint for a more realistic rendition of the iron armor!

Uchitaro: Take a look from the back as well! If you look close you will notice that the area from her shoulders down her back actually has the Noble Phantasm that was used to hide her identity: Secret of Pedigree! This was originally a helmet, but was disassembled and rebuilt to form the back part of her armor that you can see here. Those who know the story will know that her sword and helmet here are in the form that appeared after she revealed her true name, bringing out a bit of the story for fans to enjoy as well! 

Suwabe: I, I see! In other words you not only get to enjoy the revealed form of Saber of “Red”, but also get a feel for the events that led up to her revealing herself! 

Her expression is also very suited for combat!

Such a gallant look in her eyes, and that open mouth with each of her teeth carefully sculpted also capture the vigorous atmosphere of battle!

Let’s take a closer look at her Noble Phantasm, Clarent!

Just look at that stunning gradient!

Uchitaro: The purple-blue-purple gradient is based on the original description, “The color of a titanium bike muffler exposed to high temperatures”.

Suwabe: Such a beautiful selection of colors! When you look at the figure as a whole her Noble Phantasm really stands out thanks to the coloring! 

▲ The reverse side is also faithfully sculpted and painted!

The hand grasping onto her sword and the sculpt of the spiky gauntlet and armor are simply amazing!

Due to the position of her arm when you look at her from the front you can’t normally see her chest, but when you take a look from a different angle you can see that the mark on her chest and the layers of her chest armor are all faithfully included on the figure’s design!!

▲ The armor on her feet also have some rather painful looking spikes! It’s these little details that all come together to create an amazing figure!

But anyway, let’s get back to Mei! (*´ｪ`*)

Even in Nendoroid size her lovely fluffy outfit has been sculpted in intricate detail! ★

▲The cute designs on her arm and gloves are also included!

Her Endothermic Blaster has also been shrunk down into chibi size to suit the Nendoroid design! ♪

Perhaps my best thing about the Nendoroid is that the weather-modification drone, “Snowball”, normally stored on the cylinder on her back can be removed and even comes with its own little stand to display floating beside her! This allows you to recreate the “Companion” Emote from the game! (ﾟ∀ﾟヽ 三 ﾉﾟ∀ﾟ)ﾉ

In addition, effect parts are included that attach to the endothermic blaster to pose her firing a stream of frost to freeze her opponents! Brrr…

Snowball also comes with effect parts to display Mei making use of her Blizzard ultimate ability! ♪

This expression while facing Snowball makes it look like the two of them are having a little conversation! So cute! ♪

Utaha Kasumigaoka: Swimsuit Ver. (Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend)

I don’t think I have worn a swimsuit nor gone swimming for over five years now. That said, I can barely swim anyway… if I ever do go swimming I will be sure to bring a swimming ring with me!

Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at the 1/7th scale…
Utaha Kasumigaoka: Swimsuit Ver.!

From the popular anime series Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend ♭ comes a 1/7th scale figure of the popular novelist Utaha Kasumigaoka wearing a swimsuit! The figure is the start of a second series of figures based on the original illustrations by Kurehito Misaki, featuring the Saekano girls wearing their lovely swimsuits.

Misaki’s delicate touch and unique coloring have been carefully preserved on the figure, while also capturing the sensual and soft appearance of Utaha-senpai’s body with intricate sculptwork and paintwork. The hat and pareo of the figure can both be removed allowing for a slightly customizable display!

The first in a series of Saekano swimsuit figures based on original illustrations by Kurehito Misaki!

From Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend ♭ comes a sexy figure of Utaha Kasumigaoka based on original illustrations by the original character designer for the series, Kurehito Misaki!

The subtle changes in color and soft looking curves of her body have all been captured on the figure perfectly!

I think the area that really does it for me is her stomach! Those intricate ups-and-downs give her skin such a soft looking appearance!

The sitting pose gives the figure a different feel to standing poses… it’s a little hard to put into words but I get the feeling you can see more ‘gaps’ thanks to the seated pose!

The pareo also really looks like it is made from fabric, while the twists and twirls of the ribbon on her hat are also lovely!

By the way, many of you may remember that we already did a similar series based on artwork by Kurehito Misaki, where all the characters were placed in poses in the middle of getting dressed! Such an impressive body for a high school student!

Even though she is in a rather revealing pose there is something about the wide-brimmed hat, the way her hand is posed gently pushing it up and the gentle smile that make her look so very elegant!! (‘-‘*)(,_,*)(‘-‘*)(,_,*)

Plus, although it may not be the first place your eyes look, the details on her feet are just as stunning as the rest of her body!

The metallic fastener on her shoe strap and intricate little toes with each of her nails carefully sculpted and painted show the amount of detail that went into the figure!

Nendoroid Dia Kurosawa!

From the anime series ‘LoveLive!Sunshine!!’ comes a Nendoroid of the Aqours member Dia Kurosawa wearing her outfit from the song ‘Aozora Jumping Heart’! She comes with both an elegant smiling face plate as well as an upset, blushing face plate for when she gets annoyed with the other Aqours members! A folding fan is also included which can be held over her mouth to add a different feel to each of the expressions!!

Nendoroid Darkness (Konosuba! 2)

We’re in the season of spring cabbage! I’ve always enjoyed frying them together with sakura shrimp for the perfect spring meal! *nom* (●´ㅂ`●) *nom*

Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at…
Nendoroid Darkness!

From the anime series ‘Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Syukufuku wo! 2’ comes a Nendoroid of the blue-eyed, blond-haired masochistic knight – ‘Darkness’! She comes with three face plates including a composed smiling expression, a euphoric expression with a slight blush on her cheeks as well as a worried, blushing expression that makes you wonder what she is anticipating!

Optional parts include her sword as well as articulated arm parts that allow for all sorts of different poses. In addition, two flying cabbage monsters as well as an alternate upper body part with her clothes damaged is also included. Be sure to display her with the previously announced Nendoroid Aqua and Nendoroid Megumin!

A Nendoroid of the masochistic Crusader!

From the series KONO SUBARASHII SEKAI NI SYUKUFUKU WO! 2 comes an adorable little Nendoroid of the female knight that tends to be too clumsy to land a good attack, but always makes a good shield – Darkness! (∩・∀・)∩

Her armor features glossy paint to differentiate textures!

Her characteristic blond hair also has a slight orange gradient toward the end of the ponytail!

Returning to our main feature, Nendoroid Darkness comes with two static arms that you can see in the photos above, and in addition comes with special articulated arms which have a joint in the elbow allowing for more dynamic poses!

Plus along with the lovely smiling expression above, she also comes with two alternate face plates! ★

The first is this euphoric expression!!

Plus as you may have noticed she even comes with an alternate upper body part that has her armor broken and outfit slashed up – allowing you to pose her enjoying taking the damage for everyone else! (´□｀｡)

Two flying cabbage monsters are also included with their own little stands allowing for even more situations in Nendoroid size!! ♥

Osomatsu-san Diorama Figure (Osomatsu-san)

I want to go out and enjoy the cherry blossoms with a nice bowl of oden!! I guess the season for oden is coming to an end now…!

Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at this…
Osomatsu-san Diorama Figure!

From the anime series ‘Osomatsu-san’ comes a special figure based on an original illustration by character designer Naoyuki Asano that features all six of the Matsuno brothers together! The illustration was based on the opening theme of the anime series where the six brothers jump out together, and the figure faithfully captures the dynamic feel together with a detailed base and background that creates a complete scene for the figure!

Each of the characters has been carefully sculpted to capture their unique traits, while also carefully tuning the figure as a whole to create a high-quality work of art that fans will be proud to add to their collection! Whether you choose to look at it from a distance and enjoy the characters as a group, or instead look up close at your favorite characters – don’t miss out on this amazing diorama figure!

The six grown-up Matsuno brothers as a single figure!

The figure was based on an original illustration drawn by the character designer for the series, Naoyuki Asano! ♥

The pose is a colorful and cute reminder of the opening theme to the series, with each of the characters in a pose that suits their individual personality!

Plus at the very bottom you have a base that is also made in the image of the Matsuno brother’s head shape to even further bring out the random atmosphere of the series! ヽ(ﾟ∀ﾟヽ 三 ﾉﾟ∀ﾟ)ﾉ

Of course, with the conversion into figure form all the areas that were never visible on the illustration have been faithfully sculpted to view from any angle you choose!!

Let’s start off with a 360° spin! ☆

Colorful and full of excitement!

While the figure features all six characters each and every one of them has been individually sculpted to capture their unique characteristics! I said earlier that the figure was a faithful representation of the illustration – but there is one difference if you look very close!

You may have noticed that on the illustration the colors used for the characters and the background are the same shades, but on the figure the characters and background use slightly different colors. The reason for this is that on an illustration it looks good, but when made into a 3D figure the same colors blend into each other which meant it made more sense to alter the colors slightly!

This is one of those examples that shows just how important the painting of the figure is! It’s not all just about the sculpt!

Anyway, let’s take a closer look at each of them starting with the oldest! ★

◆ Osomatsu ◆

A lovely, cheerful smile and pose! Even the details of his fingers have been carefully crafted!

◆ Karamatsu ◆

Those thick eyebrows and a pose trying to look as cool as possible! Just look at those low sunglasses and stylish placement of this right hand! The bundled up sleeves also look great! (・∀・)!!

◆ Choromatsu ◆

A rather upset looking mouth! You’ll notice the figure is tuned to look at as a whole with Osomatsu in the center, which is why the left side of his mouth appears slightly longer when you look at him directly from this angle.  

It really is fun to compare all the characters personalities just by looking at the figure! You really get a good feel for the differences between the brothers!

◆ Ichimatsu ◆

A kind of sleepy smile together with his classic half-closed eyes! Note that his slightly messy hair has also been captured with the sculpt! ☆

◆ Jyushimatsu ◆

A wide open mouth with his arms up in the air for a super playful and energetic pose! The back of his hair sticking up too!! I can just imagine his voice playing through my head!

◆ Todomatsu ◆

Last but not least we have a jumping Todomatsu with his one leg far out to the side of the figure! The height of each of the brothers has also been carefully tuned to be faithful to the series!

They all look lovely! Plus the best thing is that as it is a figure you can completely change the angle and enjoy a rather unique appearance such as this one! ヽ(ﾟ◇ﾟ )ﾉ

Another little bonus with the figure! 

The speech bubble part on top of Ichimatsu actually has a little opening in it! This allows you to insert a piece of paper or something similar…

To use the figure as a kind of memo stand!

From the fantasy simulation RPG “Summon Night 3” comes a scale figure of the main female character, Aty!

The figure is based on the promotional illustration that was drawn to celebrate the announcement of the PSP version of the game, and has been sculpted in 1/5th scale allowing for amazing details and careful attention to the textures to really make the figure stand out in any collection! The glasses she is wearing in the original illustration are also included but can be attached and removed as you wish, allowing you to choose how you prefer to display her!

The lovely Aty-sensei has been transformed into an impressive 1/5th scale figure!! Most figures are normally around 1/7th scale or 1/8th scale, so this figure of Aty is probably a lot larger than you might be thinking!

The larger size allows for more intricate details on the face and helps to provide a nice dynamic feeling to the outfit! Plus the barrel base has also had a nice amount of attention given to it! ヾ(o´∀｀o)ﾉ

Just look at those gentle eyes and smile!! ♡

As you may have read in the product description, the glasses can be removed allowing for a slightly different appearance as well! (*´ω`*)

Even though I was told the glasses could be removed, I ended up returning the figure without ever taking them off for a photo, so I just stole the above photo from the product page! (ΦωΦ)

But I still took lots of photos that capture the impressive 1/5th scale details and the lovely curves that come with it!! (*´ω`*)

▲ The creases in her white jacket and boots as well as the tight feeling of the turtleneck one-piece all come together so nicely! I think turtlenecks are quite a rare sight in the figure world, but I for one am very glad that Aty is wearing it on this figure!!

Quite a daring angle, but you can’t quite see underneath the short one-piece! You’ll have to wait until she joins your collection for that! Somehow from this angle Aty-sensei seems more defenseless – particularly around the legs! It’s nice to get these different feelings for a figure from different angles.

▲ From the back you can see how her hair is parted down the middle as it flows off to the sides. The details put into the shadows of the long hair really make it look stunning!

The flow of the white material around her is also just as stunning, and really brings the figure to life! (*´▽｀*)

▲I personally love boots that tie-up all along like this, but perhaps more amazing than the ties are the realistic creases along the boots!

They look like rather thick boots based on the design, but thanks to the creases you can get a good feeling as to where the actual feet and legs are within the boots! It makes me so happy just looking at them!! ヾ(o´∀｀o)ﾉ

▲The details on the belt and other accessories is also wonderful! You can clearly see the contrast between the leather areas and the golden buckle!

Onto my favorite shot for today!

I tried not to focus too much on the bare skin… but just look at those lovely thighs!! Plus the gap that forms between the boots and the legs… I just want to dive inside!!

Nendoroid Japan (Hetalia The World Twinkle)

The cherry blossoms have finally started to bloom here in Japan! Today is also the day that the new recruits come to join the GSC ranks!! I can’t wait to meet them and see what kind of characters they have ♪

Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at…

Nendoroid Japan!

From the popular anime “Hetalia The World Twinkle” comes a Nendoroid of Japan! He comes with both a modest standard expression as well as an impassioned expression for when he talks about food!

Optional parts include the case for his bamboo sword, his pet dog Pochi-kun as well as some Japanese rice for him to eat and talk about! He also features a special round base decorated with cherry blossoms to bring out the Japanese atmosphere! Be sure to add the shy and somewhat mysterious Japan to your collection!

“I’m so very sorry for troubling you.”

The character who excels at sensing the mood and being overly reserved; the quiet and diligent young man ‘Japan’ is joining the Nendoroid series!  His rounded silky looking hair, cute pose with his hands held in front of him as well as the elegant yet dignified look on his face… (*´ｪ`*)

 

All of his characteristics have been captured in Nendoroid size! ♥

The white uniform he wears has also been sculpted in detail with even the little buttons and collar faithfully represented!

– Bamboo Sword Case –

This comes with a string that allows him to carry it on his back like above! Note that the actual material of this string to be used on the final product is still under consideration and is likely to change!

▲ The parallel arm makes for a cute pose even when just standing up straight!

– Sitting Parts & Rice Bowl & Chopsticks –

Not only does he comes with chopsticks and a bowl full of rice with an umeboshi on top, but he also comes with sitting parts!! ε=(｡・д・｡)

But that’s not all, he also comes with a passionate expression, perfect for posing him talking about food!! The slight blush on his cheeks, serious eyebrows and square-shaped open mouth make for a rather different impression when compared with the previous face plate!! It’s that contrast that makes it all the more fun though! ♥

The important umeboshi has also been sculpted on top!

– Pochi-kun –

The somewhat despondent looking eyes of Pochi-kun are perfect!!

The soft and round appearance with little stubbly legs has also all been captured to display together with Japan!

Not only can you display him by his side, but you can also display Nendoroid Japan holding him!

▲ It’s as if he is staring down at Pochi-kun! So cute!!

Although he only comes with two face plates, there are a nice selection of rather large optional parts which allow for all sorts of different scenes and situations!

In addition, he also comes with a special round Nendoroid base that features a cherry blossom design! ✿

2017 April Fools: Cat Smile Company!

I often get hungry when watching cat food commercials. They always make the food look so delicious! I’ve never owned a cat so I really don’t have any knowledge on the subject though!

Anyway, as some of you may have realized, yesterday the Good Smile site was taken over by our feline overlords as part of the April Fool festivities! ♪

▲ We hope you were pleasantly surprised when you accessed the site!

We worked together with a cat cafe in Akihabara called Cat Cafe MoCHA in order to make Cat Smile Company come to life for a day!

As part of the April Fool Project I went to the cat cafe together with Chan Shuu (@gscs_hirase), Suwabe (@gsc_suwabe), Yatomo (@gsc_tomo) and Kevin (@gsc_kevin) to take photos of the kitties! ♪

This was actually my first time ever going to a cat cafe! I was rather excited from the get go but there were a lot of things on my mind… Would I be able to take photos of the cats as they ran around? What kind of place was a cat cafe? Would I be able to fit in at such a stylish place?

It all worked out just fine though! The inside was such a friendly atmosphere!

At the entrance you first remove your shoes, sterilize your hands and place your baggage in a locker room!

Then you head inside…!

It’s so stylish! So pretty!!

As my first experience in a cat cafe the fact that I was surrounded by cats was amazing, but I was also very surprised at how stylish and modern the cafe looked on the inside!

My normal targets for photography don’t tend to move around much, so I was a bit worried when I was told I had to take photos of cats, but it was actually much easier to photograph them than I had imagined! They would even take cute little poses for me to capture!!

We went through on a weekday morning and while there were not many customers besides us, everyone was very laid back and relaxed as they enjoyed the kitties! ε=(｡・д・｡)

Whether you are just there to enjoy the cats, photograph them, or even sit and relax with some of the manga that is provided in the cafe… it’s such a wonderful place to sit back and relax!

Some people might be concerned that as they are not used to cats it may be awkward to suddenly be around so many – I was the same! But once you get inside and start playing with the cats you’ll forget anything like that and simply enjoy their cuteness!! It really was a wonderful place to have my first cat cafe experience!

I had the chance to speak with the Shibata from the Cat Cafe MoCHA’s PR department to ask what exactly makes their cat cafes so special!

The inside of our cafes focuses on a natural, wooden look that provides an overall warm and gentle appearance. The exception to this is the Ikebukuro East Exit store which has a more lounge-themed design. The Shibuya store has a more elegant approach – the look differs slightly between stores so we hope everyone will take a look at each of them!

The cats are obviously the main attraction, but it’s easy to see that a lot of attention is given to the design of the cafes as well! They are so warm an inviting! I honestly never expected a cat cafe to look so very modern and stylish!

Thank you for the compliments! MoCHA is a cat cafe after all, so cats will always be the main focus but we really do aim to create an area that people can come and relax even if there were no cats. The warm and stylish “cafe” like design allows for people who have never had the chance to come to a cat cafe to stop by and feel welcome.

 HOW TO ENJOY A CAT CAFE

What is the best way to get close to a cat?

The best way to start is to do the nose check! Point out your finger toward the cats nose and they will almost always come forward and give it a sniff! 


Cats themselves often do this themselves with their noses as a kind of greeting, so it’s a simple way to try and close the stranger gap between you and the cat! 

Do all of your stores allow visitors to touch the cats?


We welcome out guests to pet and play with the cats, but we do ask that you refrain from picking them up. We have a couple of cat toys available in the store as well which you are welcome to use to play with the kitties! By the way, if you wear a long skirt the cats will always come to you and try to hide under your skirt… making you a very popular guest!

Unfortunately I came in short pants!! I wish I had known that beforehand!

Cats love things that move so they naturally go to investigate the long skirts! We also have blankets in the cafe for those who feel chilly, and the cats will often come and jump on the laps of those who use them.

What are the cat treats on this board?


You can purchase cat treats and cat ice cream to feed the cats! These do cost a little extra, but you get to give the cats a little love back and have them come to you which makes it worth it for any cat lovers!

 AKIHABARA STORE

Each of the stores has a different theme, what makes the Akihabara store stand out from the rest?

The Akihabara store has a huge selection of manga as well as game consoles to play on including the new Nintendo Switch! Perfect for the electronic town!

In other words you get to play game, read manga and enjoy being surrounded by cats all at the same time! What kind of guests come to visit?


Compared to other stores there are a lot more guests from overseas. We often also see people come in after work still wearing their suits to unwind after a day of hard work. Depending on the season we also get people that come after looking for work!

We also have various tools to remove hair and smells from your clothes before you leave, so don’t worry too much about what you are wearing!

I can understand wanting to come and visit after a long day at work! It’s the perfect place to relax and forget about any responsibilities for awhile!

As a side note, the weekends tend to get very busy, so if you want a more relaxed time I recommend coming on a weekday! Perhaps the best time to avoid the crowds is weekday mornings – the cats have also just woken up and tend to be very playful! 

We also have feeding time at 10:30 and 19:30 every day! You’re welcome to come at that time to see the kitties enjoying their meal!
