Uzuki Shimamura: Crystal Night Party Ver.: A Talk With the Sculptor and Painter

My eyes… my eyes!!! My allergies are really acting up today… (/ω＼)

Anyway, today I’m going to be speaking to the sculptor and and painter of Uzuki Shimamura: Crystal Night Party Ver.! – Kai Sasaki (Shashaki) and Ekoshi!

– Your Favorite Point –

Shashaki: I sculpted this figure knowing that she would be in the center of the three New Generation girls. I really wanted to bring out that feeling of what it means to be an idol!

Ekoshi: I was told to make her look ‘sparkling’, when I started my paintwork!

(・∀・) This “sparkling” look was also mentioned by the expression painter! It must have really become a theme for the figure!

“Even the pose for the figure was thought up here in the GSC Offices. We had a rough illustration of the three of them together in the final pose, and as soon as I saw that illustration I knew I had to make Uzuki look great as the centrepiece to the set.”

(・∀・) “They will surely all look great as single figures, but the design really caters to those who want to display them as a set!”

“Another point that I really like is the fact that there is a nice difference between the previously released Shimamura Uzuki: New Generation Ver.!”

“The previous Uzuki figure was based on one of the card illustrations from the game, and it has a very 2D-based appearance because of this. This is by no means a bad thing and certainly has its own charms, but this time around I wanted to bring out her cuteness in a different way, and went for a slightly more realistic sculpt.“

(・∀・) “The fabric of her outfit around the chest and gloves that is being moved by her pose has been sculpted with such high levels of detail!”

“I actually went out and bought similar gloves and put them on myself to see exactly how they looked! For science!!”

(・∀・) “Seen the pose was made by GSC, that means that there was no original illustration to work with… it must have been quite a test for your both your creativity and sculpting ability!”

“I was working on this while the anime was airing on TV, and I remember shedding a couple of tears for Uzuki while I cheered her on… she was always so adorable in the opening theme! My sculpt just kept remembering that cuteness, and aiming to get the figure just as cute!”

“I also often thought of the opening theme when working on the paintwork. That sparkling outfit with the light blue of the skirt and blue lines that lay along her outfit were really the points that really stood out to me.”

(・∀・) “Ah… the blues on the outfit are really lovely!”

“In order to get the blues to stand out against the white, I had to layer the colors in a slightly different way to normal! But I think the colors came out really nicely in the end! The flowing accessory on her back makes use of pearl paint as well as a half-glossy white that gives a really bright appearance that suits her so well!”

– Other Highlights –

“For me, her hair is easily one of the biggest highlights!! The twirling ends of her hair are so twisty… and even this is after a couple of changes that made them a little bit more straight!”

“When painting the figure, the prototype is first duplicated with multiple casts… the hair alone was made of of 14 different parts to paint, which is quite unbelievable. But I felt the passion of Shashaki’s sculpting and did my best to match his passion for the paintwork!!”

“The hair was also the area that went though the most changes since the unpainted prototype was revealed, I said earlier I was aiming for a more realistic sculpt, and that included the details and flow of the hair! It was very difficult to decide just how much each strand should twist, or where to straighten out a bit more a better appearance… I spent a lot more time than you’d imagine working on the hair!”

(・∀・) “No matter what angle you choose to look from, the hair always makes for such a nice accent to the overall figure!”

– What Area worked on by the Other Did You Like Best? –

“I love the way the gloves have been painted, as well as the white hem of the skirt. I really tried to give the gloves a texture through the sculpt, but it was only after it was painted that the texture really came out nicely. The white part on the skirt was actually a little more of a creamy white before some changes went though…”

“That’s right! At first it was more of a yellow color, but while we were taking a look at it within GSC it was agreed that it would look better as a straight-up white! As soon as I went with the white instead I instantly knew that was the right choice. As I mentioned before, we then added in more gloss and pearl paint in order to get closer to that ideal shininess!!”

(・∀・) “What did you like most about the sculpt, Ekoshi?”

“The layers of the skirt and the hair really stand out… but I’d have to say the way her knee-highs are squeezing her skin is my best!!”

“Originally the thighs were a little larger than they are now… but after some discussion it was decided they needed to be thinned down a bit to be closer to the character designs.”

“The way her hips are slightly turned is also a really lovely touch! Plus she looks amazing from the back!! You can just imagine being the producer and watching your idol from backstage when you look at her from the back!!“

(・∀・) “I also love the way she looks from the back with her outfit trailing out behind her! You can also pose her with her gaze to the side and pretend to be looking up to her on stage as a fan instead! ♡”

“Depending on the angle you look from the face can have quite a different impression! I hope that fans enjoy her from all sorts of different angles if they decide to pick her up!”

I can’t tell you how excited I am for this Uzuki Shimamura: Crystal Party Ver.!!!

I had the pleasure of seeing the figure for myself… the creases on the gloves, the flow of the outfit, her adorable smile, cute posing, fluffy hair and impressive skirt all come together in lovely detail to create such an amazing figure. You can really feel the love for Uzuki that has been poured into this figure!!

I currently have the Nendoroid, figma and other scale figures of Uzuki on display in my house, but I can’t wait to add this one to my collection!! On that note, I’m so happy that there are so many different figures of Uzuki to choose from!! She is really loved by the fans, which makes me feel happy as well!! Thanks everyone!!

Rin and Mio are also currently in development, so those who want to display the New Generation girls together have a whole set to look forward to! I can’t wait for the release!

Nendoroid Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Ver.

Today’s Main Feature…!

Today I’m going to be taking a look at…

Nendoroid Zelda:
The Wind Waker HD Ver.!

From the popular game ‘The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD’ comes a Nendoroid of Princess Zelda! She comes with three expressions parts including a standard smiling expression, a winking expression as well as a combat expression. Optional parts include her bow together with a Light Arrow allowing you to recreate the battle with Ganondorf.

She also comes with both the Master Sword and a Mirror Shield which can be equipped by the previously released ‘Nendoroid Link: The Wind Waker ver.’ for all new posing options! Be sure to display the two of them together and recreate all sorts of different scenes from the game!

The Princess of Hyrule is joining the Nendoroids!

From the popular game series loved all over the world ‘The Legend of Zelda’ comes a figure of Zelda based on her appearance from The Wind Waker HD Ver.! Her lovely blue eyes and long golden hair have all been converted into Nendoroid size for fans to add to their collection! The Nendoroid remains so very faithful to the design from the game! ♥︎

△ Her necklace, cape clasp and other ornaments are beautifully detailed!

Uzuki Shimamura: Crystal Night Party Ver.: A Talk With the Expression Painter

Hello everyone, Kahotan here! (@gsc_kahotan)

I can’t get over at the cold temperature this morning after such a warm weekend! Where did the nice weather go?!

Anyway, today I’m going to be speaking to the person responsible for Uzuki Shimamura: Crystal Night Party Ver.‘s adorable expression – Ranran! ♪

– Your Favorite Point –

Ranran: “I wanted to preserve that sparkling, clear smile from episode 24 of the anime series as best possible!!”

(・∀・) “You’ve mentioned the word ‘sparkling’ a lot when talking about this figure. It must be very important!
“This is actually only the third scale figure expression I have ever worked on, and by far the one that has had the most revisions. I really tried again and again until I felt I had captured the sparkling smile as best I could!”

△ One of the Ranran’s previous expressions, Honda Mio: New Generation Ver.

“I’ve long been a fan of the Cinderella Girls game, and when I think of Uzuki’s expression the first one that comes to mind is the one illustrated by Annin Doufu – so my basis of the expression was originally on those illustrations. For example the top part of the black of the eyes would meet up with the eyelashes without white in-between, similar to her art style.”

(・∀・) “I see, I see. But that slowly changed?”

“Yep. When I first had the expression checked by the publisher I was provided with a much more lively-faced set of reference illustrations, which is when the figure got changed to have the energetic smile that helps put a smile on everyone’s face that you can see now. That’s not to say that my first expression wasn’t energetic, but this was just on a whole new level! Plus, based on the reference illustrations, the gap between the black of the eye and the eyelashes has a bit of white added in!”

(・∀・) “Ah-hah! You can see a little bit of a white gap on the photos for the figure now!”

“Adding in that white gap actually made the eyes look wider open, adding to the energetic look and smile! Her smile isn’t just cute, its actually quite inspiring to look at as well!”

(・∀・) “The smile is really amazing. Not only is it really cute, but just looking at it makes me feel all happy inside!”

“Including both the prototype and painted prototype I must have redrawn the expression around 4-5 times in total now. Probably the most I’ve ever done for a figure. I’ve really become quite attached to the expression now!”

(・∀・) “The pose of the figure was also an original pose made here in the GSC offices, correct?”

“That’s right! We came up with the idea for the pose here and then the planner and sculptor talked directly with the director to get it perfect. It was my first experience with such a project, but it was actually really interesting trying to come up with a good pose that fans would enjoy. We wanted to ensure they would look great alone, and absolutely amazing with all three displayed together!“

(・∀・) “Is painting a scale figure’s expression very different from a Nendoroid expression?”

“The fact that the expression isn’t ‘chibi’ means that even the slightest change in angle or highlights can make a rather huge impression. Making tiny changes made me so nervous! By the way, there is another male figure on the way that I painted the expression on as well – I hope everyone will like him!“

Alloy Shimakaze

Today’s Main Feature!!

Today I’m going to be taking a look at…

Alloy Shimakaze!

From the popular browser game ‘Kantai Collection -KanColle-‘ comes an action figure of Shimakaze that makes use of alloy! The originally designed joints allow for an impressive range of articulation, allowing the figure to be enjoyed as an action figure while also faithfully retaining the original proportions of Shimakaze.The figure also includes three different Rensouhou-chans that can each be deployed as different pieces of equipment for Shimakaze to equip! When all deployed they form a helmet, arm, leg and back armor as well as a powerful Rensouhou hammer which allow for all sorts of fun poses!

As you would expect from the name, various parts of the figure are made from alloy, creating a rather different texture, feel and weight compared to normal action figures. She also comes with three interchangeable expressions including a standard face, a combat face and a smiling face. A carton of delicious heavy oil is also included as an optional part.

Apologies for the long wait since her announcement! The Shimakaze action figure that features diecast alloy parts is now up for preorder!! You can find more details over on her product page:

Shimakaze’s slim physique has been faithfully made into an articulated figure, and she even comes with a set of transforming Rensouhou-chan figures that become her armor and weapon!! ［╹△╹］

△ You can see the transformations of the Rensouhou-chan’s here! ♪

By the way, other than the pole of the hammer, no additional parts are required to be added in the transformation process! They are all included within the Rensouhou-chan figures!

The figma stands approximately 190mm in height with her ribbon included, and 150mm without the ribbon. For comparison, figma Shimakaze is about 130mm in height so this Alloy Shimakaze is slightly larger!

Just look at the huge mechanical left hand!!

The torpedo launcher she normally has on her back transforms into this impressive metal gauntlet! ＼＼\└(‘ω’)┘//／／

Let’s take a look at her in her transformed form first!

– TRANSFORMED FORM –

Even though the figure has over 70 points of articulation, they don’t stand out at all! The figure itself looks lovely and smooth even in lovely action poses!!

For example, lifting her Rensouhou-chan hammer up in the air to intimidate the enemy!

The armor at her shins is made from diecast alloy giving it a really heavy, more realistic texture and weight!! Take a look at the page below to see which areas of the figure make use of this diecast material!

You can even pose her jumping up through the air! ♪

While still in development, the figure will also come with a specially designed stand that will allow for jumping and other aerial poses like this one! You can see some pictures of the stand over on the special website above as well!

If you take a look from the back you’ll notice that even the two sides of her hair are fitted with a joint allowing you to match the hair with your poses – for instance in the jumping pose above! (｡･ω･)ﾉﾞ

△ The Rensouhou-chan at her hips is in a rather amazing state!

She also comes with an alternate expression better suited to combat scenes! ☆

You can recreate all sorts of different situations!! (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧

But don’t forget you also have the choice to display her in her normal form with the Rensouhou-chans!!

– NORMAL FORM –

The natural form of Shimakaze! You can hardly tell the joints are there at all, and all the Rensouhou-chans look so cute when they are in their untransformed versions! ♡

△ Her standard expression has such a calm look on it! ♪

You can pose them saluting the Admiral or other KanMusu!!

With all the armor removed, she suddenly seems to have a much more ladylike body and soft-looking skin!! (/ω＼)

Plus she also comes with this optional part to hold…

Delicious Heavy Oil! っ(๑´ㅂ`๑)

This alternate smiling expression shows just how much she enjoys it too! Apparently it does wonders for a KanMusu’s looks!!

Choose between combat mode or standard mode, and recreate an endless number of poses once you add her to your collection!

I really want to go out and look at the cherry blossoms when the weather is this nice! I believe the blooming in Tokyo is expected to end this weekend!

Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at…

Nendoroid Co-de Hatsune Miku: Breathe With You Co-de!♡

From the SEGA feat. HATSUNE MIKU Project’s ‘Hatsune Miku -Project DIVA- F 2nd’ comes a Nendoroid Co-de of the popular ‘Breathe With You’ module! The stylish red, white and black design has been converted into Nendoroid size keeping the unique look with plenty of frills to keep Miku looking as adorable as ever! Her hair accessory and cute expression are also not to be missed! ♪

“A blessing for you!”

The module from ‘Hatsune Miku -Project DIVA- F 2nd’ illustrated by Nisokuhokou – ‘Breathe with You’ or ‘Bless You’ is joining the Nendoroid Co-de series!! ♪

The red, black and white color set gives her a stylish, rather mature appearance with a bit of mystery added in to the mix! (●´ω｀●)

This is how she looks from the back! ★

The layers of frills and red collar are lovely and detailed!

The gradient on the shoes with cute little ribbons on them as well as the lovely details of her twintails makes for a lovely figure even from the back! The rather unique looking hair accessory has also been beautifully transformed into Nendoroid head size!

Each of the petals has been carefully sculpted to recreate even the finer details of the module that everyone has come to love! While the design is cute, it also gives her a more mature charm compared to her standard outfit! ♡

Speaking of details, these red and black triangle accessories coming off the skirt are such a pleasure to look at!

A Quick Nendoroid Co-de Recap!

Nendoroid Co-de is a new addition to the Nendoroid series based on the theme of dressing-up characters! The figures have fixed poses and each come with four parts – the head, upper garment, lower garment and shoes. Each of these parts can be swapped between characters allowing for all sorts of possibilities. The more you collect, the more dress-up options become available to you!

In other words…! They are simple fixed pose Nendoroids, great for new collectors, with the ability to dress-up in various ways!

They are designed to be fun for Nendoroid collectors to collect, and for younger fans to enjoy playing with and creating all sorts of new dress coordination! You can see all the figures released so far over on the..

Anyway, let’s get back to today’s item!!

This is the second Nendoroid Co-de figure in the series, following on from the previously announced Nendoroid Co-de Hatsune Miku: Ha2ne Miku Co-de! (Center)

On the left we have the Nendoroid Co-de Hatsune Miku: Breathe With You Co-de and on the right is the upcoming Nendoroid Co-de Hatsune Miku: Raspberryism Co-de – which is also planned to have preorders opening soon! In addition to these three, the Sweet Pumpkin Co-de has also been announced!♪

As mentioned above the Nendoroid Co-de is separated into four parts – the head, upper garment, lower garment and shoes. These can all be switched between any other characters for all sorts of fun and interesting outfits!

Nendoroid Nya-tan

My Chinese zodiac year is the year of the Snake, but I’m sure if there was a year of the cat I would have been that instead!

Today I’m going to be taking a look at a product soon to be released…

Nendoroid Nya-tan!

From the popular anime series ‘Etotama’ comes a Nendoroid of Nya-tan, the eto-musume of the cat that dreams to one day become one of the twelve Chinese Zodiac Gods! She comes with both an energetic smiling expression as well a somewhat obnoxious yet still adorable devious expression.

Optional parts include the Soruraru Seal that marks her victory in the ETM12 divine selection ritual. You can also switch the stickers on the seal to create the seals of each of the eto-musume! Enjoy the adorable company of Nya-tan by your side in Nendoroid form!

The cute and innocent representative eto-musume of the cat, Nya-tan is soon to be released in Nendoroid size! ฅ(○•ω•○)ฅ

The packaging is pretty standard! Simple is best!

△ The spats under her skirt have been faithfully included! ★

The first picture of today’s blog had her in the adorable nyan-nyan pose, but she also comes with a variety of different hand and arm parts to create all sorts of original poses! ♪

△ The hands disconnect at the wrist band allowing for more parts combinations!

Plus the inner cardboard sheet of the box has a special design, and there is also a set of stickers together with the handling instructions!

When the stickers are used together with the hexagonal part and special hand parts and then combined with the background you can recreate..

The Pretty Mode Transformation Stage! (੭ु ›ω‹ )੭ु⁾⁾♡

The stickers for the Soruraru Seal come in all sorts of different varieties as well, so you can pick the one that you like best! ★

△ The obnoxious expression together with all the stickers. Rather fitting! ♪

Plus, this item was rather special due to the fact that while it was up for preorder at the GOODSMILE ONLINE SHOP, everyone that preordered had a chance to win special Nendoroid Expression parts drawn by the staff and cast of Etotama!! ♪

Uzuki Shimamura: Crystal Night Party Ver.

I really cannot hide my shock that it is already April tomorrow… tomorrow people all over will be starting a new school year, or new jobs! How exciting!

Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at a product that went up for preorder earlier today…

Uzuki Shimamura:
Crystal Night Party Ver.!

From the popular anime ‘THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS’ comes a 1/8th scale figure of the New Generations member Uzuki Shimamura in a ‘Crystal Night Party’ version!

Uzuki is posed wearing the ‘Crystal Night Party’ outfit she is seen wearing in both the opening theme of the anime’s second season as well as in the last episode of the series. It is an outfit that shouts out what it means to be an idol with it’s shining and colorful design – a design which has been intricately sculpted and painted for fans to enjoy in their collection.

Both Rin Shibuya and Mio Honda are also planned to be released in their ‘Crystal Night Party’ versions, so be sure to display the three together!

Isn’t she amazing?!

As she spins around in the photos above you really get a nice feel for the way her outfit and hair is flowing! Not to mention the cute, cheerful pose she is in! (‘-‘*)(,_,*)(‘-‘*)(,_,*)

The gloves and knee-high socks also have intricate little creases sculpted on them that really make the material of the outfit look realistic – plus you can so easily make out the movement of her arms and legs through the outfit!

This is one of those figures that I really find it quite hard to decide on an angle for… she looks so amazing no matter which side I choose to look from! You’ll have to decide for yourself once she joins your figure shelf!! ♪

But if I had to pick one, I love this lower angle off to the side! (●´ω｀●)

△ I’s like she is standing up on the stage before me!!

We also made a TV commercial for the figure, so be sure to take a look!!

Ajin: Demi-Human Vignette Collection

Today’s Main Feature…!

Today I’m going to be taking a look at…

Ajin: Demi-Human Vignette Collection

From the anime ‘Ajin: Demi-Human’ comes a set of trading vignette figures. Each of the figures is based on a specific scene from the series, and recreates the unique personalities of the Ajin as well as the traits and details of their IBMs.

The set includes four different figures including ‘Kei Nagai & IBM’ the symbolic half-IBM appearance of Kei, ‘Satou’s IBM’ which shows Satou’s joy in killing, ‘Satou’ a in which Satou is calmly cutting off his own arm in battle and ‘IBM vs. IBM’ – one of the highlights of the series . Each of the figures brings out the Ajin: Demi-Human universe for fans to enjoy in their collection! Be sure to collect them all!

With the anime with a second movie coming up in May, ‘Ajin: Demi Human’ comes a set of vignette figures that bring out the Ajin universe to add to your figure collection! The figures stand between 50mm and 90mm in height and are filled with the charm of the series!

△ Even though the posing is simple, the figure still has a dynamic feel to it!

The sculpting was done by Kaiyodo’s Masahiko Kagawa, and really brings out the feeling between the different textures! ε=(｡・д・｡)

For example, the rough appearance of the IBM’s head!

The difference between the human’s clothing and the bandage-like appearance of the IBM also make for an interesting contrast! ♪

This set has a total of four figures to collect! (｡･ω･)ﾉﾞ

Let’s take a closer look at each of them one-by-one! ♪

– Kei Nagai & IBM –

A sinister right side with Kei’s cold eyes and solemn expression on the left! The bizarre flowing movement of the IBM has been captured in the figure very effectively!

If you look from the right side you can hardly see the human form of Kei at all! The angle you choose to look from really influences the figure! (´□｀。)

– Satou’s IBM –

A human seized by an IBM… those who have seen the series will know where this goes!! (/ω＼)

While most of the figure uses matte paint, the mouth has a glossy effect to it that really brings out that living, wet appearance!

△　The difference in strength between an IBM and human is clear…

– Satou –

After taking a tranquillizer to the arm, Satou decides the best route to stop the spread is to simply cut off his arm!! This scene was so amazing!! The carefree look on his face that simply does not match his unthinkable action makes it all the more amazing!

The Ajin that has remained level headed through many battles was able to make such a quick decision… it really gets you to realize just how differently the Ajin can fight!

△ The spray of blood from the cut just adds to the insanity of the scene!

– IBM vs IBM –

A fight between two IBMs!

The bandage-like appearance together with the way their bodies are moving has clearly been so carefully through out for the sculpt!

This is how they compare in size to an iPhone6s!
