Good Smile Company’s 10th Anniversary

May 1st was Good Smile’s Birthday!

The company has passed its 10th year!

This is all thanks to everyone who has supported us through the years! Thank you so much to everyone!

Today I’ll take a look at how the event looked yesterday – I know a lot of you might have already seen a lot of it from the live NicoNico showings, but there should be some extra ‘behind the scenes’ bits for you as well! (`･ω･´)ゞ

30th April – Preparation Day!

We were using the 2nd floor of the Akihabara Bellesalle building! The Good Smile Mark shining on the wall was so cute!!

Let’s head inside the exhibition area!

Ooh, looks like everyone is hard at work setting things up! I’ll try not to get in the way with my pictures…

This is how the stage looked!

It was on the right from the entrance. The rehearsal was due to start at any minute.

This was on the left from the entrance, and featured all the Good Smile Company figures released in the past 10 years! As most of you know we were missing some of the figures, but luckily we managed to get hold of all of them after I asked on my blog – thanks to everyone who was willing to lend a figure to help out!

This was all done the day before the event of course, but it was still quite a mission to get all the figures displayed! 10 years of figures is a lot! 😛

TWO TOP and Miura New Room – the two companies we normally get help for WonFes and other events were here to help us out with stage preperations. A big thanks for them for smiling and keeping everyone going through the day – it’s great to work with such a wonderful team!

Then… May 1st! The day has come!

Everyone came in cosplay… I mean… formal attire for the event!

Reception was handled by these wonderful ladies!

The reception and dressing was all handled by Good Smile and dicokick – not the event staff!

We relieved 76 bunches of lovely flowers!

Thank you to all who sent us these wonderful flowers! They really brightened up the corridor down to the entrance, plus they smelt magnificent!

If you look to the ceiling you’ll also see a balloon with the Good Smile logo!

The figures of the past!

When you see them all lined up like this it really is incredible…
From a few days before the event I was asking staff members which figures were most memorable to them… a lot answered the ‘Shuraki’ series!

It’s so tall! So very tall!! There were also GSC Mascots all over the place, it was so cute!

There were also some new products on display!
First up… Nendoroid Ikaros!

She’s so sexy for a Nendoroid! Wonderful!
She also comes with three expressions – the one you see here and two others… I can’t wait to play with her!!

Plus… Nendoroid Gumako!!

This will be the first in a series of charity products under the name ‘Cheerful Japan’!
The Good Smile Mascot in the front is also included! More details will be available later this month!

GSC has reached the 10 year mark, but it’s far from over. We’ve got this far thanks to all of you, and I’m certain that we’re going to go much further with all of you by our side! I hope you’ll stay with us for many more years to come!1

I also got the chance to meet the English translator for the Good Smile Site and the blog at the event!

The Good Smile Web team all love having him work with us, and although we didn’t get to chat for long, I’m glad I saw you!
Here are a few words from the translator himself regarding the event…

First and foremost – congratulations Good Smile Company on 10 years!

I’ve been a figure fan for many years, and looking at all the Good Smile figures lined up just shows that you guys really are the very best – they really are the cutest, most detailed and enjoyable figures out there – and I can’t wait to see what is coming up for us fans next.

The event itself was also a load of fun – I finally got to meet some of the Good Smile staff, the food was absolutely delicious and the stage events were great! (Although I felt quite bad that I was almost the only one there not wearing a suit…)

Thank you for inviting me, and I hope to be able to work alongside Good Smile Company for many more years to come!

A Visit to This Year’s Sapporo Snow Festival!

11th February, 19:00: Sapporo.

The GSC Staff decided to head to the Snow Festival on the long weekend!

Some of the staff arrived the day before, but the group I was with didn’t have much time to look around… so it was a bit of a rushed trip. ^^;

But still, we quickly dropped our luggage off at the hotel and rushed off to the festival.

This was found along a main street!

Giant dinosaur ice sculptures!!!

The lighting beneath the ice created a really stunning effect! It was beautiful!

Whaaat?! We haven’t looked around at all yet!

So we ended off the first day with a nice meal!

A little later we also had some drinks with some people from other companies… but it was only after on the way home that I noticed they were quite important people… ^^;

February 12th, 10:00: Sapporo.

Here is this year’s Miku snow sculpture!

The poses were actually taken from the Nendo Petite Vocaloid series!

We also had a live broadcast from the event!

Most of the staff were busy elsewhere so it ended up as me doing the broadcast all alone… but thanks to everyone who watched and commented on the live!

You can see her scarf, earmuffs and gloves! Σ（ﾟ∀ﾟ）

The same clothes that the new Nendoroid Snow Miku got this time around! It’s perfect! If you look inside the sleeves you can even see where the gloves end… it’s truly a work of art!

Let’s take a look at the other sculptures!

There were no set out areas for specific sculptures or anything so you just got to wander around and enjoy the nice variety of different sculptures.

There were huge snow sculptures too!

I don’t think the photo does it justice… this sculpture really was big!

The details on the wings are incredible when you look up close…

I was just thinking that the GSC sculptors should try making some snow sculptures! But I suppose figures are a completely different story when compared with snow?

‘Susuki Ice Festival’!

About 10 minutes walk from the Snow Festival grounds is a the ice festival where there are a load of ice sculptures to enjoy! I heard there was an Ice Miku on this side so I had to come look for myself!

The snow sculptures were incredible, but the details on the ice sculptures were even more unbelievable!

The sun was glinting off them giving them a nice sparkly appearance!

On the right you can see a bunch of the 2010 Nendoroid Snow Mikus… frozen in an ice wall!! How did they get inside there!?

Then we rushed off to Norbesa!

This is where Crypton was hosting a variety of Miku-based events! GSC was helping out as well!

Good Smile Cafe Portable Edition!

The cafe was selling nice warm drinks like coffee, tea and herbal tea to warm everyone up! A quick thanks to all the people I met while at the cafe – I’m sorry that I couldn’t stay and chat longer!

Everyone who ordered a drink got a free Snow Miku Cream Daifuku!

I also grabbed one… it was so soft and delicious!

A nice place for a rest!

Of course there were some figures on display as well!

In fact, you could make any Miku you wanted using the pens and crayons provided! There were a load of original Mikus displayed as well!

SEGA’s Snow Miku!

Snow Miku would dance along to the songs that were playing! (I saw her dancing to ‘Stargazer’!) This is the Arcade version of Snow Miku – as you can she she also has all the warm clothes that the Snow Miku Nendoroid is wearing!

Finishing up!

I really didn’t have a lot of time… but I did get to meet some people I wouldn’t normally get the chance to! I was really glad to get the chance to speak to Ryuusei-san responsible for ‘Shiteyanyo’.

February 13th, 08:00: Sapporo Station.

Time to go home!

We only really had one full day to look around! 🙁

But on that one day I manged to have a live broadcast, take photos, speak with loads of customers and help out at the GSC cafe… it was a great visit! Lots of people were hoping for a longer live broadcast… I’ll try to make sure it works out better next time!

On a side note… Aki only got back to the hotel at 5am… so we ended up leaving a bit late… ^^;

We still made it in time for the plane though!

Figures on Display at Wonfes! Only 2 days Left!

2 days until the Wonder Festival!

Good Smile sculptors hard at work!

Since Good Smile moved offices the sculpting area has moved to the 6th floor whilst the offices are on the 2nd floor. The sculpting area is quite busy throughout the year… but just before WonFes it really goes into full throttle!

WonFes is the day after tomorrow!! It’s time to head to the Makuhari Messe to start setting everything up!

On the 27th January a collaboration project between Nendoroid and the PSP game ‘Valkyria Chronicles 3’ was announced!

– Part 1

The first part of the collaboration allows you to get the Good Smile Mascot as a logo in the game!

You can place the logo on your tanks in the game! Anyone can get hold of it just by inputting a password.

3 Days Left! Wonder Festival Handouts!

3 days till the Wonder Festival!

The first of two Wonder Festivals this year!

Everyone at Good Smile is dead busy with preparations!

Will we be able to get everything done in time!?

I’ll forget about the rush while I write my blog for today though! 😛

The famous handouts from ‘WONDERFUL HOBBY LIFE FOR YOU!!‘ are ready!!

This time all the goodies are put together into an A4 vinyl bag to carry easily!
You’ll find the handout at the ‘WONDERFUL HOBBY LIFE FOR YOU!!‘ booth, so grab someone there to make sure you get one!

We have made a ton of them… but stocks still are limited, so try and get there early!

■ figma & Nendoroid Poster!

All the figmas to date are all displayed on a giant poster!

It’s like reading a giant history book on the history of figma!

Also… the 100th figma will be announced at WonFes!

I wonder who it will be! :O

On the reverse side of the poster is the Nendoroid version!

This also features every Nendoroid from #0!

Otanaka is holding up the poster… but poor Akiyama-san behind him has caught a terrible cold… I hope it’s better before WonFes!

■ Nendoroid Calender!

This adorable desk calender starts from April!

You can have the Nendoroids keep you company and get you through those busy days!

This is how it looks inside!

It’s a nice small calender but it still leaves enough space to note some dates down! As for who is on the rest of the pages… you’ll have to wait and see for yourself! 😛

■ Square paper-craft!

It’s a paper-craft of Square-chan… the same robot found in the ‘WWR JAPAN DEFENCE FORCE SET’ being sold at WonFes!

This is the paper-craft compared to the real model!

It really impressive how close it looks seen it’s just paper!

If you’re wondering who Square-chan is… I’m really not sure myself… but apparently he is a bad guy. I’m told he tries to draw out his enemies by saying cute things like “Let’s be friends…. come out and play!”

■ Postcards!

Postcards from the currently airing anime “Fractale” as well as one from “Fire Ball Charming”, which you can also see a world first preview of at the WonFes booth!

By the way… the Fractale postcard is only inside 3000 packets… if you get one consider yourself lucky!

■ ＧＳＲ Newspaper!

You’ll have to wait till you get one to see what stories will be covered. :O

Also pay attention to the announcements on the WonFes Stage at around 13:00!

As a side note – Indotei will be set up in the food corner very close to the Wonder Hobby booth. If you’re feeling peckish be sure to try their ‘WonHobby-Don’!

This is for anybody who wants to buy the figures at the event.

This info relates to all the products except for ‘Tokokazu Seki – Ultraman 80’ and ‘WWR JAPAN DEFENCE FORCE SET’.

Everybody in the queue will receive an ‘order sheet’.

While you are waiting in the queue fill in the products you want with a circle, and then when you reach the front hand it in. There will be pens prepared, but it wouldn’t hurt to bring your own in case.

Nendoroid Kurisu Makise and Gift Plushies!

12 days till the Wonder Festival!

Yesterday we had a look at the WonFes product ‘Nendoroid Kurisu Makise: White Coat Ver.’!

That would be the one of the right of this photo.

Today we’ll take a look at the one on the left:

Nendoroid Kurisu Makise!

This one is not a WonFes product – it’ll be available at all our partner shops for normal sales! We’re sending her out on the 26th, so she should reach the stores by the 27th!

This is how the packaging looks!

The overall feeling is very similar to the White Coat Ver. – it has a very standard Nendoroid set-up. Obviously Nendos like this with no huge extras cost less! Don’t forget that!

Kurisu in her casual clothes!

Kurisu comes from the science fiction visual novel that was recently recently released on PC, “Steins;Gate”, and also goes by lots of pet names, such as “Assistant” and “Christina”. She is a very lovable tsundere heroine, and now she is available as a Nendoroid!

When we first announced this Nendoroid we got a lot of people asking.

This is how she looks from the back!

These clothes are actually a custom altered version of Kurisu’s high school uniform. The stand tucks into the hem of the clothes very nicely!

An arm holding documents to recreate the famous CG!

This extra part has Kurisu’s arm holding some documents just like she did in a very important scene from the game!

The first expression – an Upset Face!

She also comes with crossed arms… perfect for a pose like this!

As I said yesterday, she is a tsundere character!

This pose and expression is a perfect example of the upset half of a tsundere… which means the other expression must be…?

An Embarrassed Face!

She also comes with a bent arms like this to create an even more embarrassing looking pose.

If you combine all the parts from this figure with the White Coat Ver. you’ll find you can make a lot of interesting poses!

You can also use the expressions of the White Coat Ver.!

You can use one of the cutest faces ever… this ‘ヽ(*ﾟдﾟ)ノ’ Face on her!

Plus she also comes with another extra!

Her cellphone!

Along with a hand to hold it! Now she can find the way to go using her cellphone!

The hand holding the cellphone can also be exchanged!

Which means you can pass the cellphone onto the white coat Kurisu! It really helps to have both of them if you want to create more of your favorite scenes!

Kaito: White Coat Ver!

Kaito is trying some new clothes on! It’s nice to have a character in a white lab coat like this one to put on other characters. The face as well of course!

They are both definitely Nendoroids with a load of fun to be had!

Nendoroid Kurisu Makise: White Coat Ver.

13 days till the Wonder Festival!

Oooh! That means there is less than 2 weeks left!!

We’re slowly buy surely getting ready here in the GSC offices, and today I’ll be reviewing the third of the WonFes products…

That’s right!

The Nendoroid on the left is actually the other standard version of Kurisu Makise, while the one on the right is the WonFes limited Kurisi Makise: White Coat Ver.

Today we’ll be playing around with the White Coat Ver.!

Let’s get started!

This is how the packaging looks!

She follows the standard Nendoroid pack – she comes with two extra expressions, a number of arms and a couple of other little extras.

Kurisu wearing her white coat!

Kurisu comes from the SF adventure game Steins;Gate – in the game she often appeared wearing this white lab coat. This version also comes with different expressions to the normal Nendoroid!

The other Kurisu is wearing her casual clothes!

It creates a nice contrast when they are displayed with each other!!

This is how she looks from the back!

The stand is a sitting-type stand – you simply balance her coat to balance her. The inside of the coat has been made so that she can stand very stably.

Extra parts – crossed arms!

This is one pose that you just can’t go without when it comes to Kurisu.

She is your typical tsundere character!!

I’ve actually played through the PC version of Steins;Gate! It’s quite a mission to get ALL of the CG unlocked, but I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn’t played it yet. It’ll make you laugh, cry and wish for more!

She also comes with a Smiling Face!
Seeing her so happy makes me feel all happy inside as well…

She also comes with bent arms for an adorable pose like this!

Obviously you could replace one or the other with a different arm if you wanted to.

Some more extra arm parts…

Outstretched Arms!

When you use these parts her hair can get in the way on the right hand side, so there is an extra hair part to avoid the problem.

As an ASCII art lover, this expression is perfect for me!!

It’s a ‘ヽ(*ﾟдﾟ)ノ’ Face!

Otakana… excellent job in adding this expression in! I love it!

For those of you who aren’t quite sure what the expression is… it’s the face she makes in the game when explaining about the brain’s hippocampus!

Yesterday I went over the first of the WonFes products, Nendoroid Mato & Yomi Set!

Today I’m going to be looking at the second!

The pack is filled with extra parts! A Nendo Petite sized snowman, two different expressions, hair parts for a Hachune version, different hand parts, headsets…. and that’s not all!

SEGA announced it yesterday, but…
A new module featuring Snow Miku is coming to the PSP game ‘Hatsune Miku -Project DIVA- 2nd’, as well as the arcade game ‘Hatsune Miku Project DIVA Arcade!

Snow Miku is going to be bouncing and dancing around in the game, so it’s only fair that the Nendoroid can do it as well!! If you’re looking for more info about the module, take a look at SEGA’s site below:

This is how she looks from the back!

The silver snowflakes in her hair look just the same as the previous version… still just as beautiful as ever! The hair also uses clear plastic just like before… isn’t it beautiful!?

Let’s compare her with the last Snow Miku!

The left is the 2011 Snow Miku, and the right is the 2010 Snow Miku.

This year’s looks a little more grown up, but they’re both adorable!

You can put the new parts on the old Snow Miku!

The scarf, earmuffs and gloves all fit her perfectly!

Unfortunately the expressions are not exchangeable due to some changes in the design. (Although I’m fairly sure the expressions will fit on any new Nendoroids)

If you want to put the new expressions on the old Miku, you’ll have to use the new fringe parts as well!

Anyway, let’s get back to the new Miku’s review!

She comes with this embarrassed face!

Snow Miku was never based on any illustrations or anything, so all the expressions were designed by Kawapon. They were still being modified at the very last moments of being made… I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Although it’s a different Hachune face to the previous figure!

Of course she also comes with a ice leek to hold!

And using the new posability you can make epic poses like the one above!

You can take off all the winter clothes!

The scarf, earmuffs and gloves can all be removed! In place of the earmuffs you can put her black headset on for a more Miku-esque pose!

The eye color even matches! It looks great! This face along with the Hachune face… I think I’m going to die from cuteness!!! Aaahh!!

This one comes from Nendoroid Shiki Ryougi!

I wanted to try and pose her in a slick Shiki-like pose! It’s a lot of fun trying to think up and pose the fully posable Nendoroids like this!!

It is made of a very soft silicone-like material. This obviously came from the idea of making Miku into your very own ice sculptures for the snow festival!

All of the limited edition products for Wonder Festival will be allocated to customers at the event using numbered tickets.

This is something new we’re trying to try and minimize the time people spend waiting in queues, and also to allow more people the opportunity to grab the figures. We really hope it’ll all go smoothly, but bear with the new system in case something goes wrong. We’ll do our best to see it through smoothly!!!
