I’m still on my marshmallow boom! I am easily one of the most indoor-type people in the world, but I have the strangest desire to go camping and toast marshmallows!

Miyazawa Model Exhibition!

I know there were many of you who were waiting for me to tweet from the exhibition, and I’m sorry I wasn’t able to! It’s a little late, but here are some of the photos I took at the event!

For those who don’t know…

What is the Miyazawa Model Exhibition?

The Miyazawa Model Exhibition’s is an industry-only event organised by Miyazawa Models, which allows distributors and manufacturers to display their figures, character goods, miniature cars and more among each other. The event is not directly open to the public.

Anyway! As usual with this event, I’m going to take a look through all the items that caught my eye during the event, starting with GSC’s products!

What is GOOD SMILE ARMS (GSA)?

GOOD SMILE ARMS is a new articulated figure series from Good Smile Company based on the theme of ‘mecha’, with a focus on preserving the intricate, sharp designs of mecha and other robotic designs while still allowing great freedom of posing though careful articulation. All the painting skills GSC has acquired though years of working on figures will also be put to use in the series, allowing for colors and textures that suit the detailed sculpting, and bring out the unique presence of mecha designs. The series will also be a larger scale compared to most articulated mecha figures, and will feature robots from not only anime, but also from various games and other media. We hope you’ll look forward to the upcoming line-up!

Nendoroid Charlotte Dunois

When I was in college my second language was French! I chose it because I liked the sound of it, but my grades showed that I was never very good at it…

Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at…

Nendoroid Charlotte Dunois!♪

 

From the popular anime series ‘IS -Infinite Stratos-‘ comes the fifth Nendoroid from the series, Charlotte Dunois! She comes with three expressions including a cheerful standard expression, an embarrassed expression and an angry expression wearing a fake smile.

She also comes with various optional parts to recreate scenes from the series – including her pendant, a strawberry crêpe and even an ‘IS’ activated right arm part! Special parts to recreate the running pose in the ending theme are also included. Be sure to display her with the previously released Nendoroids of Houki Shinonono, Cecilia Alcott, Lingyin Huang and Laura Bodewig

Oooooooooohhh!!(´□｀｡)

The kind and beautiful French IS representative who first joins the academy disguised as a male! Charlotte Dunois is joining the Nendoroids! ♥︎

This is how she looks from the back!

Her hair is tied up such a unique way! The tie also features a joint allowing for little changes in angle to match your poses better! It helps a lot when recreating the famous running scene from the ending theme! ♡

Anyway, lets get back to Charlotte! Each of the characters has a slightly different version of the same uniform! Charlotte’s is faithfully preserved! ♡

But while I could talk about the beauty of her outfit for ages, I also want to move onto the optional parts, so let’s get started! (｡･ω･)ﾉﾞ

First up…!

△ I’m sure fans will recognise this!

She comes with an IS-activated arm part! ★

Only the right arm is included, but attaching it transforms her into battle mode in no time at all! The bizarre combination of her gentle smile and the large weapon is a little unnerving though!

Plus if an IS arm is included, then this also just had to come with her…

Charlotte comes with her pendant that is also the inactivated pendant form of her IS, Raphael Revive Custom II ♪

This can be held in her hand as above with some balance, but is actually designed to be hung around her neck! Use it however you see fit! ε=(｡・д・｡)

△ A right bent leg is included for more ladylike poses! ♪

Charlotte is perhaps best known for her gentle smile, but she also comes with two other expressions! (*´Д｀)

First up is her embarrassed expression! Here she is being embarrassed with Nendoroid Laura Bodewig! ♡

△ “L-let’s go shopping together!”

Charlotte can get rather worked up when she can talk about fashion to someone like Laura who knows nothing about it! Plus another part that works perfectly with these two together… (●´ω｀●)

Charlotte comes with a strawberry crêpe! This means that together with Laura and her blueberry crêpe, you can recreate the scene from the show!

△ Having the two of them together brings out the IS atmosphere even more!

Finally her last expression…

Is another important expression for her…! (((( ;°Д°))))

An angry expression!

It might not look like it at first, but the reserved and rather antisocial Charlotte has her own way of showing her anger towards Ichika! She looks so cute even though I know she is really upset!! The expression makes use of a dark gradient from her nose upwards to create a slight ‘anger shadow’ across her face! ♥︎

The Nendoroid really allows for all sorts of different sides of Charlotte! From happy to angry and even combat scenes! I’m sure fans will be happy with her!

There are already all sorts of IS figures out there, but be sure to consider adding this Charl to your collection too! She is small and cute and ready to be loved!

Ryuko Matoi: Senketsu Kisaragi Ver.

Today’s main feature…!

Just a quick warning that there might be some spoilers to KILL la KILL in this blog! You might want to avoid reading if you haven’t finished the series!

Anyway, without further ado today’s blog will be taking a look at…

Ryuko Matoi: Senketsu Kisaragi Ver.!★

From the anime series ‘KILL la KILL’ comes a scale figure of Ryuko Matoi wearing Senketsu in her final form after absorbing the strength of all the Goku Uniforms to become ‘Senketsu Kisaragi’! The pose comes from episode 24 of the anime series, ‘Past the Infinite Darkness’, where Ryuko fought against Ragyo Kiryuin in outer space.

The pose and design captures Ryuko’s feminine beauty, but also shows off her strong will and determination though her powerful gaze. The base will made in the image of outer space to help bring out the atmosphere of the final battle, and the figure itself can be enjoyed from any angle you choose to view her from. Be sure to add her to your collection!

Waaaaaaaaaaa!!!! (´□｀｡)

A 1/8th scale of Ryuko-chan wearing Senketsu in their final form!!! She is posed holding a scissor blade in each hand, confident for battle!

The long awaited figure that captures Ryuko at her strongest point in the final climax scene is the series is finally here! Who would ever have expected to see Ryuko become this at the end of the epic story!! ヽ(*・ω・)人(・ω・*)ノ

I still listen to the theme songs all the time! The first and second opening and ending were all amazing!!

Anyway, let’s get back to the figure!

Senketsu really looks like a weapon of great power, but still shows off loads of soft looking skin!

The contrast between the texture of Ryuko’s skin and Senketsu is lovely!

The figure has been brushed-up multiple times since it’s prototype stages, and although it’s a relatively simple standing (floating?) pose, the vigour and power of Ryuko comes though very effectively through the sculpt and paintwork! 

Let’s see how she looks from the back! ヽ(ﾟ◇ﾟ )ﾉ

The translucent effect parts are amazing! ♥ 

I think most people who see her from behind will have their eyes pulled to her lovely bottom at first, but there are many, many things to enjoy even from the back! Just look at the effect parts emanating from her hips or the gradient paintwork and enamel appearance of her thigh-high boots. (●´ω｀●)ゞ

This is the only coloured prototype of this figure that exists at the moment, and I had to be so careful when putting her together! In particular the thin effect parts… I was rather nervous taking photos of her! (/ω＼)

As a side note, the final product that will be reaching everyone will be nowhere near as delicate as the prototype, so don’t worry about that! (It also might just be that I’m just really clumsy….)

Her fiery hair also makes use of translucent parts!

What an exquisite gradient effect!! ☆

You can feel her burning spirit with ease through the sculpt and paintwork! The translucent parts also are really a treat for the eyes! ♪

Another thing I want to point out here is how the collar is fluttering!

Even with a pose that isn’t technically moving, the sculpt includes dynamic elements that definitely make it feel alive! I took all my photos in a rather light environment, but I’m sure that making use of all the translucence in a dark room with various lighting effects would make for some amazing photos! ♪

The red to black gradient of her boots and the shading of her knees… not to mention the curves around her thighs and bottom that you can see from this angle. Everything is so delicious! *nom* (๑´ㅂ`๑) *nom*

But there is still so many more amazing points!

The ribcage, belly button, thighs and even underboob…! 

The powerful, vigorous feeling of the figure is one thing, but even with that there were definitely no corners cut when it comes to creating an absolutely beautiful body!

I just want to run my eyes and fingers along those beautiful curves all day! (*´Д｀)=з

It’s certainly a figure that faithfully captures both Ryuko’s beautiful body together with her spirit from the final episode of the series!

My favorite of favorite foods might just be takoyaki! Best when they are soft and fluffy! Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at…

Nendoroid Ryujo!

From the popular browser game ‘Kantai Collection -KanColle-‘ comes a Nendoroid of the light aircraft carrier, Ryujo! She comes complete with both a standard aeroplane and ‘shikigami’ paper planes to fly beside her.

The divination scroll in the image of a flight deck as well as a pouch to hang from her shoulder are both included. Her favorite food, takoyaki, are also included for her to enjoy! ♪ Alternate parts to recreate her half-damaged appearance are also included!

Oooooooooohhh!! (/ω＼)

From the popular browser game Kantai Collection comes a Nendoroid of the light cruiser, Ryujo!

Everything about her design down to the scroll in the image of a flick deck have been faithfully converted into chibi Nendoroid size! The outfit is a nice blend between Japanese and Western styles!

This is how she looks from the back! ♡

The mini AA-guns around her hips look so detailed!! (σ・∀・)σ

She is wearing thick-soled shoes giving her a longer appearance… not that her petite build isn’t adorable! It makes me want to pet her on the head as she is so cute!! The twin-tails are fitted with Nendoroid joints allowing you to easily match them up with any poses! (｀・ω・´)ゞ

Anyway, as I’m sure many have noticed, the first photo featured an aeroplane!

(・∀・) “Ryujo comes with quite a few types of aeroplanes!”

We’re joined by the planner for Nendoroid Ryujo, Kyojin!

(・∀・) “We wanted to allow fans to recreate the effect of Ryujo ‘summoning’ the planes from paper planes, so we included various points of the transformation!”

 

“Aircraft! Head out, head out!!”

The divining fire summons the aircraft !!  

(・∀・) “Four plane parts are included – a paper plane, mid-transformed plane, Mitsubishi A5M and Nakajima B5N!”

It’s really like they are slowing changing as they move along! ♪

(・∀・) “Each plane also comes with it’s own little stand, allowing for quick and easy placement wherever you like!”

Anyway, up until now we’ve had a rather serious Ryujo in combat mode… what other expressions does she have?

(・∀・) “First up we have this smiling expression!”

Ooooooooohhhh!! (´□｀｡)

Definitely a much more gentle expression compared to the previous one!

But wait! The scroll!! I know this pose!

(・∀・) “You can easily place the scroll in the position of Ryujo Kai Ni as both a long and short version are included!”

The long version reaches about 13.5cm in length including the bottom section!

But hold on a second… the previous pose had the scroll kind of bend around… is it made from a soft material, or…? （？△？）

(・∀・) “The top and bottom sections are made from a hard material to allow the stand to connect easily, but the actual ‘scroll’ part is planned to be made from a durable kind of paper meaning it won’t get in the way of any poses!”

I see, I see! (‘-‘*)(,_,*)(‘-‘*)(,_,*)

That means that you can create all sorts of bendy poses with the scroll as well! By the way, the shorter scroll will be completely made from the harder material. The soft paper is only used on the longer version!

(・∀・) “Other parts that work well with the smile… are these!”

S-She comes with these?!

(・∀・) “Yep! It was a tough choice deciding on what fun parts to give her, but we eventually decided on the takoyaki, the same as was found on the GAMERS special poster of Ryujo” 

The see-though packaging and even the stick to eat them with! Such wonderful detail! ♡

(・∀・) “Another thing that was on this poster was the pouch for holding her scroll! It’s also included!”

Ooooooooh! (*´Д｀)=з

The strap part is even made from actual fabric for unobstructed posing! Yay!

(・∀・) “These parts allow for more everyday life scenes – a rather different feel to the combat look!”

△ I want to go on a date and eat takoyaki while walking beside her!

Finally! What is her third expression?

(・∀・) “A Half-damaged expression!!!” 

Just look at those downward facing eyebrows!! She looks so defeated!! 

(・∀・) “This time we decided it was time to include a half-damaged body once again! The skirt is all ripped up and jewel from her neck is hanging down… not to mention her shirt being ripped open showing her stomach!” 

I personally love that her little belly button is showing! ♡

Even the reverse side has a damaged look to it!

Even the torn right shoulder has been faithfully added to the  damaged body!

(・∀・) “It was quite a tough Nendoroid to work on, but I think we packed her fill with Ryujo love! I’m sure fans will enjoy adding her to their collections!”

Nendoroid Rin Shibuya

I can’t believe that it’s been seven years since I last wore a school uniform. Time really flies! Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at…

Nendoroid Rin Shibuya!

From the popular anime series ‘IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls’ comes a Nendoroid of Rin Shibuya wearing her school uniform! She comes with three expressions including a slightly distant standard expression, a cute embarrassed expression as well as a bright smiling expression.

Other optional parts include her school bag as well as a smartphone with earphones attached, allowing you to faithfully display her as the modern high-school student she is. The other ‘New Generation’ members, Uzuki Shimamura and Mio Honda, are also planned to be joining the Nendoroid series soon!

Ooooooooohhhh!!! (*´Д｀)

One of 346 Production’s ‘New Generation’ members, Rin Shiubya is joining the Nendoroid series! ♡

She has been sculpted wearing the outfit she is best known for, her school uniform! The impertinent look of her expression and pose is perfect for the ‘modern day’ high school student!

If you look close you’ll notice even her earrings are faithfully included!

Her school bag is included as an optional part, so you can easily pose her in on-the-way to school poses! ♪

（´-`）.｡oO（I want to be a true producer and give her my business card…!)

By the way, she also comes with alternate hand parts for both left and right hands to display her with hands in her pockets!

However there is more to Shiburin than just this serious look! (｀・ω・´)ゞ

She also comes with the other side of her personality – which can easily be brought out with this embarrassed expression!

Hyahoooooooo!!! _:(´ཀ`」 ∠):_

This definitely lets you experience the gap between Rin’s cool and calm side and this more flustered side! The arm up by her hair makes her seem to be trying so hard to hide her embarrassment! I’m sure there are many producers out there that can’t hold back their emotions when they see Shiburin like this! ♪

The fact that she is always trying to be so composed makes her flustered appearance all the more appealing! (‘-‘*)(,_,*)(‘-‘*)(,_,*)

Anyway, let’s check the third expression!!

No wait! First let me show these optional parts!

Along with her school bag, she also comes with a smartphone with earphones attached! (｡･ω･)ﾉﾞ

If you pose her looking a little upward, you can recreate the popular illustration of her!

The smartphone even includes a screen! Such intricate details! ♪

Another thing you’ll notice if you look really close is that you can see her necklace! Don’t you love seeing these intricate little details even on chibi figures like Nendoroids! ♡

But I digress! Let’s get back to the third expression!

Just looking at her makes all my troubles seem so distant…! 

All the different parts and expressions allows for so many different sides of Shiburin! From the first time you meet her to all sorts of memorable scenes!

April Fools! The Story Behind Nendoroid Co-de Fundoshi & More!

The ‘F’ in Fundoshi stands for FULL ARMOR~! ♪

Hello everyone! Do you think this is Kahotan…?

Well too bad!!

Today’s blog update will be by me!

Today I will be taking you though the back story of yesterday’s April Fool joke ‘Nendoroid Full Armor Mode’ also known as ”Nendoroid Co-de Fundoshi‘ (which is kind of long so from now on Nendoshi!)!

I’ll be explaining it from my point of view only, so there might be some pieces missing though. By the way, for those of you who don’t know me, I am the sculptor behind the recently announced Nendoroid Mikazuki Munechika!

(*Please note that as April 1st has ended in Japan, the previous blog and special site have been taken down!)

 

So let’s get this started! I have two topics to cover!

1) How and why were the Nendoshi made?!

One fine day, Ohno-shi from the WEB team and Kahotan came by the production team with a mysterious plan…

“This year’s April Fool joke shall be… Nendoroid Co-de: Fundoshi!”

As soon as I heard this I quickly jumped at the opportunity to sculpt the Fundoshi as it seemed like a lot of fun! (I kind of regret it as the work load was a lot more than I anticipated but let’s forget that for now!)

The body used for the Nendoshi was initially based on the alternate body included with Nendoroid Aoba & Ren together with base parts of the Nendoroid Co-de series! The additional putty added is WAVE’s Light Epoxy Putty! Once the shape was added I carefully carved away the shapes, and…

Complete!

(For uh… ‘reasons unknown’, there are some areas I cannot show on the blog, so I made a silly censor image instead)

I was in rather high spirits once I had completed this sculpt… only to be told shortly afterwards that it looked way too muscular for a Nendoroid… so anyway, I got back to work trying to fix it and the result was this second body!

The body on the right is the initial muscular body that I made.
The left has the chest, arms and legs altered for a slimmer macho body.

I then quickly made the blank head parts and fundoshi parts themselves, but the schedule was rather tight and I needed to move onto painting as soon as possible! The paintwork on the Nendoshi was done by Noguchi-sensei! First up were the preparations – each of the parts is cleaned and polished and them coated in a primer which acts as a kind of foundation for the paint.

The colors for the skin and fundoshi  is carefully mixed…

All the parts have now been painted!

Once the parts were put together they created this!

A slight gloss was left on both of them to show off the gleam of their manly skin!! The muscular body also has some shadows put into the paintwork for an EVEN MANLIER APPEARANCE!!

And thus the Nendoshi were created! Let me also let everyone know – and as the sculptor I know – that the Nendoshi are completely cast off!!

However!! Let me just remind everyone that the Nendoroid Co-de Fundoshi was nothing more than an April Fools joke! Nothing more than GSC finding some ways to have some fun together with the fans!

Phew! This is turning out to be a rather long blog!

Let’s move onto the next topic!

2) Nendoroid Mikazuki Munechika!

Just a little while back we announced Nendoroid Mikazuki Munechika and he was also already introduced on the blog, but I want to add my two cents as someone from the production side of things!!

What a beautiful release photo!!

Nendoroid Mikazuki was first revealed at WonFes and went into hyper speed production to get him ready as soon as possible for the fans! He is one of the first Nendoroids ever that had both the body and head worked on simultaneously! I was the sculptor behind the work on his head parts.

Now I would love to tell you stories of all the tough problems and challenges that came up while working on the sculpt for Nendoroid Mikazuki…

But I really didn’t have much trouble at all!

The original illustration was such a lovely piece of work that really appealed to me, and was transferred into a Nendoroid design so smoothly and easily! It was such a pleasure to work on! One thing is that normally on Nendoroids a portion of the hair ‘tufts’ are often left out of the design to accommodate the chibi look, but Mikazuki still looked great with a high number of lines so they were left in! I really think the Nendoroid captures the fact that he is definitely the most beautiful of the ‘Five Great Swords’! The combination of ‘beauty’ and ‘cuteness’ is wonderful!!

The one worry I did have was how he would look when seen from the right. The original illustration of Mikazuki Munechika only shows from from a left angle, and the Nendoroid was made with the main idea being to look at him from the left…

However!

Figures are made to be seen from absolutely any angle, so we had to make sure that he wouldn’t looks strange from the right! I think that this product photo should prove to everyone that he still looks great even when seen from a different angle!

How can he be so good looking…!!

Kahotan also captured this pose very nicely!

I know, they are virtually exactly the same photo… but it actually ended up as my favorite product photo! The one angle I was worried about ended up as my favorite way to see him!

The expression, by the way, was painted by Sekigussan, who also did a fantastic job at capturing the character! Anyway, I have one more thing to point out… his hakama!

Can you tell…?

There is actually a very slight gradient applied to the hakama! Nendoroids don’t actually very often see gradient paintwork on their outfits, but to truly bring out even the little subtleties of Mikazuki’s beauty we really went all out on the paintwork!

The paintwork of the Hakama was actually done by the same person who did the paintwork on the muscular body from the Nendoshi, Noguchi-sensei! Such lovely detail!! It is a little bit hard to tell from a photo – you really need to see the figure with your own eyes!!
