Hello everyone! Do you think this is Kahotan…?

Well too bad!!

Today’s blog update will be by me!

Today I will be taking you though the back story of yesterday’s April Fool joke ‘Nendoroid Full Armor Mode’ also known as ”Nendoroid Co-de Fundoshi‘ (which is kind of long so from now on Nendoshi!)!

I’ll be explaining it from my point of view only, so there might be some pieces missing though. By the way, for those of you who don’t know me, I am the sculptor behind the recently announced Nendoroid Mikazuki Munechika!

(*Please note that as April 1st has ended in Japan, the previous blog and special site have been taken down!)

 

So let’s get this started! I have two topics to cover!

1) How and why were the Nendoshi made?!

One fine day, Ohno-shi from the WEB team and Kahotan came by the production team with a mysterious plan…

“This year’s April Fool joke shall be… Nendoroid Co-de: Fundoshi!”

As soon as I heard this I quickly jumped at the opportunity to sculpt the Fundoshi as it seemed like a lot of fun! (I kind of regret it as the work load was a lot more than I anticipated but let’s forget that for now!)

The body used for the Nendoshi was initially based on the alternate body included with Nendoroid Aoba & Ren together with base parts of the Nendoroid Co-de series! The additional putty added is WAVE’s Light Epoxy Putty! Once the shape was added I carefully carved away the shapes, and…

Complete!

(For uh… ‘reasons unknown’, there are some areas I cannot show on the blog, so I made a silly censor image instead)

I was in rather high spirits once I had completed this sculpt… only to be told shortly afterwards that it looked way too muscular for a Nendoroid… so anyway, I got back to work trying to fix it and the result was this second body!

The body on the right is the initial muscular body that I made.
The left has the chest, arms and legs altered for a slimmer macho body.

I then quickly made the blank head parts and fundoshi parts themselves, but the schedule was rather tight and I needed to move onto painting as soon as possible! The paintwork on the Nendoshi was done by Noguchi-sensei! First up were the preparations – each of the parts is cleaned and polished and them coated in a primer which acts as a kind of foundation for the paint.

The colors for the skin and fundoshi  is carefully mixed…

All the parts have now been painted!

Once the parts were put together they created this!

A slight gloss was left on both of them to show off the gleam of their manly skin!! The muscular body also has some shadows put into the paintwork for an EVEN MANLIER APPEARANCE!!

And thus the Nendoshi were created! Let me also let everyone know – and as the sculptor I know – that the Nendoshi are completely cast off!!

However!! Let me just remind everyone that the Nendoroid Co-de Fundoshi was nothing more than an April Fools joke! Nothing more than GSC finding some ways to have some fun together with the fans!

Phew! This is turning out to be a rather long blog!

Let’s move onto the next topic!

2) Nendoroid Mikazuki Munechika!

Just a little while back we announced Nendoroid Mikazuki Munechika and he was also already introduced on the blog, but I want to add my two cents as someone from the production side of things!!

What a beautiful release photo!!

Nendoroid Mikazuki was first revealed at WonFes and went into hyper speed production to get him ready as soon as possible for the fans! He is one of the first Nendoroids ever that had both the body and head worked on simultaneously! I was the sculptor behind the work on his head parts.

Now I would love to tell you stories of all the tough problems and challenges that came up while working on the sculpt for Nendoroid Mikazuki…

But I really didn’t have much trouble at all!

The original illustration was such a lovely piece of work that really appealed to me, and was transferred into a Nendoroid design so smoothly and easily! It was such a pleasure to work on! One thing is that normally on Nendoroids a portion of the hair ‘tufts’ are often left out of the design to accommodate the chibi look, but Mikazuki still looked great with a high number of lines so they were left in! I really think the Nendoroid captures the fact that he is definitely the most beautiful of the ‘Five Great Swords’! The combination of ‘beauty’ and ‘cuteness’ is wonderful!!

The one worry I did have was how he would look when seen from the right. The original illustration of Mikazuki Munechika only shows from from a left angle, and the Nendoroid was made with the main idea being to look at him from the left…

However!

Figures are made to be seen from absolutely any angle, so we had to make sure that he wouldn’t looks strange from the right! I think that this product photo should prove to everyone that he still looks great even when seen from a different angle!

How can he be so good looking…!!

Kahotan also captured this pose very nicely!

I know, they are virtually exactly the same photo… but it actually ended up as my favorite product photo! The one angle I was worried about ended up as my favorite way to see him!

The expression, by the way, was painted by Sekigussan, who also did a fantastic job at capturing the character! Anyway, I have one more thing to point out… his hakama!

Can you tell…?

There is actually a very slight gradient applied to the hakama! Nendoroids don’t actually very often see gradient paintwork on their outfits, but to truly bring out even the little subtleties of Mikazuki’s beauty we really went all out on the paintwork!

The paintwork of the Hakama was actually done by the same person who did the paintwork on the muscular body from the Nendoshi, Noguchi-sensei! Such lovely detail!! It is a little bit hard to tell from a photo – you really need to see the figure with your own eyes!!

Nendoroid Rin & wooser / Ren & Darth wooser: Light Ver.

Recently I seem to be eating nothing but fried chicken bentos for lunch! Meat… I want more meat!! Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at some products that went up for preorder the other day!

The previously released Nendoroid Rin & wooser + Mechawooser  & Nendoroid Ren & Darth wooser are back in a more simple, cheaper version! Each will cost just ¥2,800!

Nendoroid Rin & wooser: Light Ver.


“It’s been awhile! Rin here!” “I’m back once again.”
From the anime series ‘wooser’s hand-to-mouth life: phantasmagoric arc’ comes a Nendoroid of Rin with wooser in a simple but more affordable set! Rin comes with a smile that show off her easygoing personality, as well as a glaring face for when she gets tired of listening to wooser’s chatter. wooser himself is also of course included to pose with her!

I really love the soft warm colors of the series! ♡

Rin-chan’s innocent cuteness has been captured in Nendoroid beautifully! wooser also looks great, and even comes with his own little stand! Rin comes with both straight arms as well as an alternate arm for posing her waving her hand like above! She also comes with the arm and hand part for the joint pose shown at the beginning of the article!

Even the hood of the wooser hoodie is faithfully sculpted!

△ The candy-like colors make we think they would taste very sweet!

Next up we have…

Nendoroid Ren & Darth wooser: Light Ver.


“Hey! I’m back as a figure again!” “I expected no less.”

From the anime series ‘wooser’s hand-to-mouth life: phantasmagoric arc’ comes a Nendoroid of Ren with Darth wooser in a simple but more affordable set! Ren comes with both a winking expression and a smiling expression, both of which capture her lively personality!

Miniskirt x knee-high socks x tube top x open hoodie! ♡

The playful winking expression also matches her sexy outfit very nicely! She comes with straight arms as well as an arm part to pose her ‘shooting’ with her hand like above! The part for the combined pose is also included, and she comes with arm and hand parts to place at her hands at her hips!

The Darth wooser hoodie also looks fantastic! ♪


△ The short shirt also means a little peek at the bare skin of her legs!

Right! Let’s have a little bit of fun with these two!! (●´ω｀●)

“What nice weather! Let’s go for a walk, wooser!”

“I thought I’d spend my day thinking about meat, but I guess we can go for a walk…”

There you have it!

A bit of a sad ending to show the upset Rin-chan expression as she heads home alone! This expression can be used for so many different things – it works just as well for angry poses as it does for sulking or even judging poses! I hope you’ll come up with even more ideas if you decide to pick her up! (/ω＼)

My hay fever is really acting up at the moment! Whenever it rains I know the next day is going to be terrible! Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at the next in the Nendoroid Co-de series!

Joining the new ‘Nendoroid Co-de’ brand of Nendoroids is Sophie Hojo from the popular anime PriPara! There are two different versions to enjoy – Sophie comes in her Holic Trick Cyalume Co-de or White Swan Co-de!

Both of the outfits are from the stylish ‘Holic Trick’ brand – one is the cyalume co-de and the other is the outfit used when Sophie performs her solo stage, ‘Solar Flare Sherbet’!

A Quick Nendoroid Co-de Recap!

 

Nendoroid Co-de is a new addition to the Nendoroid series based on the theme of dressing-up characters! The figures have fixed poses and each come with four parts – the head, upper garment, lower garment and shoes. Each of these parts can be swapped between characters allowing for all sorts of possibilities. The more you collect, the more dress-up options become available to you!

In other words…! They are simple fixed pose Nendoroids, great for new collectors and with the ability to dress-up in various ways! Great fun for both young and old fans!

Nendoroid Co-de: Sophie Hojo – Holic Trick Cyalume Co-de

“Girls be free! Valkyria!!”

The combination of white, red and black make for a kind of rocky, but Gothic outfit that has an incredibly stylish feel to it! She is posed with a microphone singing for her fans! The red ribbons on the top of the boots and the frilly skirt really bring out both the cool and the cute so nicely! ♥︎

Next up we have…

“Have you all been behaving? My little caged birdies…”

I-I’m behaving!! I’ve been patiently waiting for you!!!

A simple outfit featuring a lovely mix of black and white! It is such an amazing outfit to mix and match with others! (●´ω｀●)

Her long hair makes it a little difficult to see, but I want to highlight the back of her outfit!!

It’s open at the top showing off some skin!!

The white gloves and slightly sexy outfit all come together to create a rather mature co-de! ☆ That brings my basic review to an end…. but that means it’s time for…

Last year’s new graduate in the advertising team!

From April we’ll have all new graduates coming in! I wonder what kind of people they will be! Anyway, while she is busy getting ready for AnimeJapan this weekend she took the time to make this Co-de!

The mix of the swinging arm and bent leg parts also make for a rather dynamic scene! Yoshii has cleverly thought out not only the outfit, but also the pose!!

Anyway, Sophie’s release means that finally all three members of SoLaMi♡SMILE are up for preorder! Once they are released I want to see photos of everyone’s recommended Co-des! (｡･ω･)ﾉﾞ

Nendoroid Co-de: Mirei Minami!

Just as I thought it was starting to warm up, it was suddenly rather chilly last night! I guess it’ll still be awhile before I can completely change into Spring clothes…

Anyway, today I’m going to be taking a look at two products that will be up for preorder very shortly! The next two figures in the new Nendoroid Co-de series…

Mirei Minami: Candy Alamode Cyalume Co-de & Mirei Minami: Magical Clown Co-de ☆

Joining the new ‘Nendoroid Co-de’ brand of Nendoroids is Mirei Minami from the popular anime PriPara! There are two different version just like with Laala – Mirei comes in her Candy Alamode Cyalume or Magical Clown Co-de!

Both of the outfits are from the bright and cheerful ‘Candy Alamode’ brand – one is the Cyalume co-de and the other is outfit that Mirei wore when she first met Laala in the anime series!

Be sure to display her together with the previously announced Laala Manaka and upcoming Sophie Hojo Nendoroid Co-de figures, which will allow for all sorts of different outfit combinations!

The cute chairman of Paprika Private Academy’s disciplinary committee Paprika Private Academy’s who is normally very serious… but becomes a lot more playful and cheerful as her idol character! Her unique cat-ear style hairstyle has been faithfully converted into Nendoroid form! (｀・ω・´)ゞ

Nendoroid Co-de Series!

 

Nendoroid Co-de is a new addition to the Nendoroid series based on the theme of dressing-up characters! The figures have fixed poses and each come with four parts – the head, upper garment, lower garment and shoes. Each of these parts can be swapped between characters allowing for all sorts of possibilities. The more you collect, the more dress-up options become available to you!

In other words…!

They are simple fixed pose Nendoroids, great for new collectors and with the ability to dress-up in various ways!

Anyway, let’s take a look at Mirei Minami now! ♪

Nendoroid Co-de: Mirei Minami Candy Alamode Cyalume Co-de

Compared to Laala she has a much more colorful look – with very distinct and bright colors! The three-layered frilly skirt is not only cute but also has a lot of volume!

△ Personally I love the way her hair looks from the back!

“Pop, step, get you!” (｡ゝω・｡)♡

Most fans will recognise this pose very quickly! ♫

It’s such a cute pose and outfit!!

These are the kind of outfits I look forward to giving to other characters!

You can easily swap around the head, upper garment, lower garment and shoes on any Co-de figure – the upper section is really cute, but combining the dress with other poses will also be a lot of fun! I can foresee lots of fun outfits to try! (*´∀｀*)

△ The shoes have little ribbons on the back!

Anyway…. as these are Nendoroid Co-de, the review wouldn’t be complete without some part swapping!

Probably one of my best combinations yet!! 

While the arms and legs of Nendoroid Co-de figures are not articulated, the parts come together in specific poses to instantly create a very cute figure without too much effort! It’s a quick and easy way to change the feel of the figure with a few quick part changes!

Anyway, just like last time, I decided to ask some of the GSC staff involved with the Co-de series to create their own recommended combinations! ヽ(ﾟ◇ﾟ )ﾉ

1) Manufacturing Team: Kamatani

The man in charge of the Co-de series manufacturing! 

To mention some other products he has worked on recently – all of the LoveLive! Nendoroids as well as the Satsuki Kiryuin: Kamui Senketsu Ver. scale figure were all under his watchful guidance!

He is also quite a fashionable dresser, so let’s see what sort of outfit he can coordinate for us!

The second idol of GSC, after Hamako!

She also provides the voice for Hamiho-chan in wooser’s hand-to-mouth life! ♪

When eating strawberry daifuku I love having strawberries on top as well as inside!  (๑´ڡ`๑)

Anyway, at the end of last year you may remember that I asked for photos for my 2014 Winter Twitter header! It’s a tad late, but I’m finally ready to announce my selected photo!!  (/ω＼)

I have previously already announced my chosen photo on Twitter, but for those of you who have not seen, it was NaoNakagawa‘s lovely snowy photo of Snow Mikus that has become by header photo!

A Snow Miku family together with a wedge plow on the Sekihoku Main Line. I actually wanted a photo with the snow falling, but the snow ended before I got to taking photos!

The Santa outfits are so adorable!! I want to give them all sorts of presents!!

This photo was taken last year during the first heavy snow in Kantou in 16 years! The snow came well up to my knees, but I just had to go out and take some photos with Miku! I think this is one of the few photos I’ve taken that I think came out really nicely! Definitely one of my favorites!

The snow falls gently to the ground with Miku smiling like an angel as she enjoys it!  The heavy snow last year was quite troublesome in some ways… but seeing photos like this makes me remember that it can also being about great memories! ♡

Nendoroid Co-de: Dress Coordination Examples!

I remember once in my youth I decided my dress-up doll needed her hair cleaned, and preformed a full shampoo and rinse! I even made sure to dry with a hair dryer! Perhaps at the time I was aspiring to be a hairdresser….

Anyway, today I’m going to continue my look at…

At long last the Nendoroid Co-de series has begun!! ♪

First and foremost, let’s have a quick reminder of what the series is all about! 

Nendoroid Co-de figures are more simplified Nendoroids, with the ability to dress-up in various ways! (｀・ω・´)

At least, that’s my quick and simple definition, but you can find a much better one over on the official site!

△ The Co-de site is up and running! English version too!

Perhaps the biggest characteristic is that each figure has a very specific make-up of parts! ★

Each color in the photo above represents one of the four parts that will be found on any Nendoroid Co-de figure! These parts can be swapped around between the figures for all sorts of interesting costumes! ♪

△ Swapping the upper garment and shoes! ♪

The arms and legs are fixed in place in a specific pose, but instead you get to mix and match outfits in interesting ways!

Size-wise, they are exactly the same size as normal Nendoroids!

△ Laala is a prototype which makes her a little bigger than the final product!

By the way!

Nendoroid Co-de head parts are compatible with normal Nendoroids! (｀・ω・´)ゞ 

In other words, you can use Nendoroid expression parts with Nendoroid Co-de figures, as well as the other way around! This allows for even more interesting ideas and situations!

Anyway, today I am going to make use of the product that were announced today, as well as the four upcoming products, Mirei Minami: Candy Alamode Cyalume Co-de, Mirei Minami: Magical Clown Co-de, Sophie Hojo : Holic Trick Cyalume Co-de and Sophie Hojo: White Swan Co-de to show some of the different outfits you can make with multiple Nendoroid Co-de figures!

My fashion sense is rather dubious, but I’m going to try my very best to coordinate some outfits! Starting with…

The clothes all have a touch of red to them making them match up quite nicely! I think it turned out rather well! I look forward to using this heart pose with Sophie too!! ♡

The upper and lower garments have a tighter feel to them, giving a more serious look to Laala than you normally see! I personally love these shoes of Sophies too! (ﾉ)´∀｀(ヾ)

Well? What did you think of my clothes coordination? I hope my ideas have given you at least some kind of idea as to some of the fun to be had with the Nendoroid Co-de series! ♡

Perhaps the most idol-like person in GSC, Hamako!

Hamako is actually quite the Pripara fan… what will she come up with? ♪

A beautiful combination of colours!! The gentle whites at the center with colourful sections on the top and bottom! The dress of the White Swan Co-de really suits almost any other piece nicely! ♪

What is Nendoroid Co-de?

Each of these parts can be swapped between characters allowing for all sorts of possibilities. The more you collect, the more dress-up options become available to you!

The name ‘Co-de’ comes from the Japanese pronunciation of the word ‘coordinate’, as in clothes coordination.

In other words…!

They are simple Nendoroids great for new collectors, with the ability to dress-up in various ways! (｀・ω・´)

The very first in the series is going to be…

Nendoroid Co-de: Laala Manaka –
Twinkle Ribbon Cyalume Co-de ♥︎

The sparkling Cyalume Co-de that fans of the anime will know well from her live performances! ☆

The treble clef on her ribbon and the musical score down the outfit give her a very convincing idol appearance! The design of her knee high socks are also so adorable!! This is the kind of clothes that show what it means to be an idol! ♪ 

The large ribbon on the back is also faithfully included!

The striped skirt also makes her look a little more mature for her age! (/ω＼)

However… the Nendoroid Co-de series isn’t about just one outfit! It’s about changing them!

Which obviously means there is more than one outfit available!

Nendoroid Co-de: Laala Manaka –
Cutie Ribbon Co-de ♥︎

The very first Co-de that Laala used when she visited the Pripara world in the anime series! ♪

The winking expression also gives her extra cute points! This outfit is filled with frills and ribbons for a very girlie appearance! (*ﾟｰﾟ*)

Even the back features a ribbon at the top!

The soft pink colors also suit her so nicely!! (´□｀｡)

Anyway, before we move on, let’s take a look at what exactly makes up the Nendoroid Co-de series!

1) Four Simple Parts

Each figure is divided into just four parts: 

・ Head
・ Upper Garment
・ Lower Garment (Skirt, etc)
・ Shoes (Including Legs)

△ Unlike normal Nendoroids, the arms and legs are fixed in place.

As the poses are locked in place, you don’t have quite as much freedom as with normal Nendoroids, but that also means that beginners to the figure scene will instantly have a great pose without too much effort! As a side note, the hips and upper body can be twisted around allowing for slightly different nuances in the pose! (‘-‘*)(,_,*)(‘-‘*)(,_,*)

 

2) Co-de Compatibility

Each of the four parts found on any Nendoroid Co-de figure is compatible with any other Nendoroid Co-de! Swapping parts is incredibly simple, but with enough figures there will be all sorts of different options to enjoy!  ☆

△ Swapping upper garment parts!

Swapping the upper garment also means the pose of the character will change to that outfits pose, creating a fresh image for the character as well! They might not be fully articulated, but you still have all sorts of options to try and find the cutest poses for characters! ♪

Another side note – the neck joint is exactly the same as a normal Nendoroid! This means you can also change the angle of her neck to alter the pose slightly!

 

3) Fun to Collect

We have already announced  Mirei Minami: Candy Alamode Cyalume Co-de, Mirei Minami: Magical Clown Co-de, Sophie Hojo : Holic Trick Cyalume Co-de and Sophie Hojo: White Swan Co-de will be coming shortly!!

At WonFes we also announced that two more characters are on the way!
