When I was young, I loved playing in the bath… my favorite thing was to waste shampoo by mixing it with water pretending to invent mysterious medicine! Today we’re going to be taking a look at some new products that combine some childish fun with some cute girls that admirals across the world have come to love!<\/p>\n

Bath Time Collection: Akagi<\/span> and
\nBath Time Collection:Shimakaze!<\/span><\/p>\n

\nI’ve been waiting so long for these two!! \uff08*\u00b4\u25bd\uff40*\uff09<\/strong><\/p>\n

Those of you who watched the live broadcast the other day will have already seen how fun these two items can be – and they’re up for preorder from tomorrow, the 30th January<\/strong>!! This is the first sortie of the Bath Time Collection, and I hope to see more!! ((o(\u00b4\u2200\uff40)o))\uff9c\uff78\uff9c\uff78<\/p>\n

First up let’s take a look at this cute character holding onto her bowl of rice…! \u266a<\/p>\n

Bath Time Collection: Akagi<\/span><\/p>\n

From the popular ‘Kantai Collection -KanColle-‘ comes the long-awaited first in the Bath Time Collection series of toys – Akagi! She is based on an illustration by popular illustrator CHANxCO, and while she is designed to float in a bath or pool, she can also speed along the ground as well using the wind-up motor built into her design. Akagi is sprawled out on the ship deck, making sure nobody can touch her previous rice! Be sure to enjoy her company in the bath or anywhere else!<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Her bowl of rice is overflowing! This is what is known as an ‘Akagi-size’ serving!<\/p>\n

The wind-up tool to speed her across land or water can be found on the bottom!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/a><\/p>\n

– wooser is holding up her up so we can get a better look! – <\/strong><\/p>\n

She is about the same length as a Nendoroid!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/a><\/p>\n

Comparing these two is a bit strange, the puffy cheeks cause them to resemble each other a little bit!<\/p>\n

Next up we have this adorable little thing…<\/p>\n

Bath Time Collection:Shimakaze!<\/span><\/p>\n

From the popular ‘Kantai Collection -KanColle-‘ comes the second in the Bath Time Collection series of toys – Shimakaze! She is based on an illustration by popular illustrator CHANxCO, and while she is designed to float in a bath or pool, she can also totter slowly along the ground by using the wind-up motor built into her design. Shimakaze is enjoying floating around in her bucket, and fans are sure to enjoy her company just as much!
\n<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

This is how she looks from the side! The slick appearance is so cute! \u2661<\/p>\n

She can also be removed from her cup modelled off a repair bucket! <\/p>\n

Her legs are of course covered up with her stripy knee socks! The cup is fairly large, and can fit a Nendoroid inside like so! \u2605<\/p>\n

She seems to fit in quite comfortably! <\/p>\n

The Bath Time Collection is a new series, but I have to say I’m rather interested to find out what the inspiration was to create it! On that note, I decided to have a word with the head planner for the series Kyojin<\/strong><\/span>!<\/p>\n

\nWhat was the inspiration for the Bath Time Collection? (\uff40\u00b7 \u03c9\u00b7 \u00b4)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

(\u00b7 \u2200\u00b7 ) “CHANxxCO was very closely involved with this project. For quite a long time we had been discussing doing something together, and one day we started discussing how well KanColle and bath goods would fit together… that combined with the fact that CHANxCO’s illustrations suited KanColle rather well, we decided to create the Bath Time Collection series!” <\/span><\/p>\n

I see! So various things matched up really well, and thus the series was born!<\/p>\n

\nHow was the series developed? (\uff40\u00b7 \u03c9\u00b7 \u00b4)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I remember seeing the concept model prototype on display at Hobbyshow… but I hear that the development from that point was rather bumpy?<\/p>\n

(\u00b7 \u2200\u00b7 ) “At that point, the huge response really surprised us! We were very glad though, and so we decided to really put our best into the development of the new series. However various problems arose…”<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

(\u00b7 \u2200\u00b7 ) “Firstly, as toys for the bath, we needed to ensure they were able to float without problems… but after making a prototype based directly on CHANxCO’s illustration… it wouldn’t float quite right – in fact, when placed in water she would completely flip around and end up with her head underwater instead!”<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh dear! (\uff9f\uff21\uff9f;) Nendoroids have a stand to keep their chibi heads from toppling them over… but while these also have chibi designs it wasn’t really plausible to have a base and stand in the bath! Things needed to be changed…<\/p>\n

Joining Teams with a Reliable Partner! (\uff40\u00b7 \u03c9\u00b7 \u00b4)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

(\u00b7 \u2200\u00b7 ) “Things weren’t going well so we needed to rework the plan… and so we decided to get some help from someone with some experience… TOKYO UNIQUE!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/a>
\n(\u00b7 \u2200\u00b7 ) “TOKYO UNIQUE has worked on various toys and goods in the past – from planning to manufacturing. These particular products are a lot more like toys than figures, and we wanted to get our Bath Collection floating and moving, so we decided to seek help from them!”<\/span><\/p>\n

Now that you mention it… Shimakaze’s tube has definitely got quite a lot bigger in comparison to the original illustration and prototype! \u03a3(\uff65\u03c9\uff65\uff89)\uff89\uff01<\/p>\n

(\u00b7 \u2200\u00b7 ) “Yep! That was one of the changes that was needed to get her floating! We made sure not to affect CHANxCO’s adorable illustration, but we still wanted to get her floating and add in the ability for her to move… so after much deliberation with TOKYO UNIQUE, this was the best option!”<\/span><\/p>\n

Changing the Materials and Shape (\uff40\u00b7 \u03c9\u00b7 \u00b4)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Bath Time collection has a very shiny, smooth look! It definitely gives a bit of a toyish appearance, but personally I like it! This is ABS right? The same material used for many Nendoroid optional parts and weapons.<\/p>\n

(\u00b7 \u2200\u00b7 ) “Yep! We needed to make the series light, but durable, so we settled on ABS”<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/a><\/p>\n

(\u00b7 \u2200\u00b7 ) “Unlike PVC which Nendoroids are made from, ABS is rather hard, which makes it more prone to breaking in the production process. Due to this, we also needed to make special adjustments to the moulds to ensure they could be taken out safely. Needless to say, TOKYO UNIQUE’s experience was priceless during the entire process!” <\/span><\/p>\n

Phew! Taking on a new project like this isn’t as simple as you’d think! (\uff9f\uff21\uff9f;)<\/p>\n

(\u00b7 \u2200\u00b7 ) “The series has had input from so many great people, and I’m sure people will enjoy it if they decide to pick them up!!”<\/span><\/p>\n

By the way… in the illustration earlier in the blog there were two other characters! Does this mean that the third and forth in the series are already on the way? Ryuujyo and Kitakami! (((o(*\uff9f\u25bd\uff9f*)o)))<\/p>\n

(\u00b7 \u2200\u00b7 ) “That’s right! There will be a Bath Time Collection display space at WonFes, so you’ll probably be able to see them there!”<\/span><\/p>\n

Ah… they really are adorable to look at… but I wish I could play with them too!! <\/p>\n

I want to see Shimakaze’s ‘tottering along’!\uff1c\u25cf\uff1e\uff1c\u25cf\uff1e<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Just like the first season, the awakening arc DVD features a needlessly impressive staff line-up, and contains all 12 episodes of the season! It also includes mini plushies of both Ajipon and The-Creature-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named as extras! Don’t miss out!<\/span>
